I would think that the Clippers definetely have a ton of fair weather fans, but their true fans are the best ones because that team had incresibly harsh tomes. The nuggets have been consistent over the years so those fans are pretty genuine.

Re: Best/Worst fanbases?

Bandwagon fans not just in NBA, but all sports, are hard to tell for some teams.

The media will talk about fans from Yankees,Lakers and stuff like they're some of the best in sports, but it's hard to tell if those fans are there cause team is just good, or they're real fans.

Cause teams like that rarely have down stretches. Lets see Yankees or Lakers have 3+ seasons of not making playoffs(like most other franchises in pro sports have at multiple points in their history)

Lakers only had multiple seasons missing playoffs ONCE in their history, and Yankees had 1 fairly long stretch in 80s-90s, but really since the mid 90s, they've basically been playoff team all the time.

It does suck hearing fans from a place like LA(for NBA) or New York(for MLB) complain if their team misses the playoffs for a single year. Yet many teams would do anything to finish with a win% that LA/NY are complaining about.

Look at Lakers this year, we have media on red alert cause Lakers might not make playoffs. And the talk all over in Spring Training quickly shifted from WBC to Yankees and all their injuries and how Jays,Red Sox,O's,Rays are gonna be finishing higher than they should cause of this.

Furthermore, every bad team has a lesser fanbase... I didn't realize that was up for debate.

Everyone here should be a little biased, but I think it's pretty clear that Boston has one of the better fanbases, if not the best in the NBA. You hear guys like Kobe and LeBron saying it's the hardest arena to play in, and Josh Smith admitting "they have the best fans in the NBA." lol
Ehh maybe I'm remembering wrong but I remember some emptiness in Boston in Pierce's time there. He was drafted for the 98-99 season they didn't make the playoffs for the first time until 01-02 and made it to the conference finals that year. It was jumping then agreed and the following year, but I remember that last year of Jim O'Brien and that first three years of Doc being a ghost town in the Fleet Center. Those years in question, last of Jim, begining of Doc (as was my original point) they were 20th, 24th, 18th, 20th in attendance. Whereas as soon as they got the Big Three that first year they jumped to 12th.

Re: Best/Worst fanbases?

These types of threads always intrigue me.
You really have to think about the locals and the culture of a said town.
Take Orlando for example, more people move from around the country to Orlando, than people from Orlando moving to say, Milwaukee. Nothing against Milwaukee, I've been there, it's a pleasant town.
But if I had to be in one city out of those two, I think 95% of people would say Orlando. Also, when your in a place like that, there's a million of things to do.
I think this explains why certain teams' fans don't travel well.
Also, I'm never surprised when there are empty seats at Miami. They have a million beautiful women down there and they have South Beach.
Of course OKC, Milwaukee and Cleavland will get close to selling out every home game. What else is there to do in those towns? When was the last time a free agent said "hmmm I'm takin' my talents to Milwaukee" Not trying to be mean, just explaining my point of view.

Re: Best/Worst fanbases?

Before looking at the actual stats my picks were Atlanta and New Orleans for worst fans.

Lowest Attendances Since Lebron entered the league:

03-04: ATL
04-05: NOH
05-06: POR
06-07: MEM
07-08: IND
08-09: MEM
09-10: NJ
10-11: IND
11-12: NJ

Not too many surprises here, except for Portland, I always felt that their fans showed up, good team or bad team.

I agree with that to a certain extent, but there's a ton of things to do and get distracted by in LA, New York and Chicago as well and that doesn't stop them from doing well with attendance.
