Serious question because I have no idea especially teams in the Pacific Northwest were rarely talked about on the East Coast.
Yes, Blazers fans made it very clear that they would not continue to support a team that didn't represent themselves well. It was more than just the legal problems (DUIs, marijuana possession, dog fighting, assault/domestic/sexual abuse), they also had to put up with stuff like Bonzi Wells being quoted in SI as saying: “the fans really don’t matter to us. They can boo us every day, but they’re still going to ask for our autographs if they see us on the street.”

By 04-05 the attendance had dropped from the top 10 to the bottom 10, hitting an all-time low in...

05-06 was the last of the "JailBlazers" years, and also the worst team record-wise (21-61) since the franchise's 3rd season. Thankfully, management was paying attention and got rid of the remaining problem guys, as well as drafting Roy and Aldridge in the following off-season. The fans took a year to come around, but the Blazers were back in the top 10 in average attendance in 07-08, and have been top 5 every year since then.

Regarding that Bonzi Wells quote specifically, the man isn't lying.

Shoot, I'd guarantee that despite being the most hated man in Sports in 2010-11, Lebron still had those same people that were booing him, asking him for his autograph every night and probably the case for any other NBA star.

Case in point. Whoever that was trying to get his headband at the UC tonight. Chicago still boos LeBron whenever he touches the ball and yet somebody was seriously trying to get his headband from him?

Well, I think the empty arena speaks much louder than still wanting an autograph.

If the fans were still paying their money to go watch those JailBlazers play then that's a different story. But they stopped supporting them with their wallets. So yeah, an autograph is cool and all but that really doesn't compare to paying cash to watch them play. An autograph is free, lol.

That's cool and all...but my point and Bonzi's still remain. And it's not just relegated to that team ever. Never compared Cash to an autograph either so yeah.

Hell, even in the Arena they're still going to be begging for the man's(the same person they were booing for 3 hours straight BTW)autograph.

I was just sayin. You may get asked for an autograph but that doesn't mean diddly squat. When someone pays their hard earned money to watch you play ball, then that means they still support you.

Just because a guy asks for your autograph don't mean he still supports you. In fact they probably just gonna sell it or something lol.

Re: Best/Worst fanbases?

It was more the part about fans being unimportant than the qualifying statement. No one would bat an eyelash if he'd just said "we don't really care about getting booed, because there are people who still ask for our autograph."

It seemed like he was being dismissive of all fans, not just the fickle ones.

Yeah, that's not necessarily true but I digress.

As for the second part, that's probably true. But that also depends on what it is otherwise I'd lean more towards them keeping it for themselves.
