And to JayD's point, we need separate special teams sliders for human and AI in CFM.
Has anyone tweeted devs this video?

Yes, mrprice. Passed it along. Thanks to him for doing that.

This is the best idea I've heard yet, you should tweet that to EA

Re: Kicking back to automatic, why?

I have still missed ZERO field goals ever since they increased the sweet spot. This is with my field goal accuracy as low as it can go before it glitches out. I really hope something is done about this.

Re: Kicking back to automatic, why?

It sure would be nice to see the CPU miss a few under 50 yards as well. Yes, you will get some misses if you sim the kicks, but it kills the immersion.

As it stands, if the CPU drives inside your 33 yard line you are done. Put the three on the board.

The flip side is the CPU foolishly attempts all sorts of ridiculously long field goals and misses most of them, ceding valuable field position.

EA needs to watch a few NFL games and take note of the many field goal misses from 30-50 yards. It's supposed to be the "year of special teams" correct?

Re: Kicking back to automatic, why?

It's the year they put some effort into special teams, but I can't find the tagline "the year of special teams"?

Maybe it's time to trade in your game, Sturz.

I still miss FG's from time to time, so, I think it depends on the user, it's not always automatic on my end.

The Clearly backpedaled on this.....

https://www.easports.com/madden-nfl/...s-improvements

Special Teams. The third phase of the game. This is an area that hasn’t changed much in Madden for quite some time. To be honest, special teams in Madden was largely a non-factor. Kicks were too easy and blocks were almost impossible without exploits. We felt pretty strongly that this was not representative of what we are seeing in the NFL. Our goals in this area were to add strategy, risk and reward elements, and the potential for game deciding plays in special teams.

New Kick Meter

When we reviewed game tape of the 2015 NFL season, we came to the realization that it was far past time to make kicking in Madden ‘less automatic’. We felt like we needed more of a challenge than just flicking the stick up. We also felt that kicker ratings needed to have a much bigger impact on the game. After reviewing other sports titles, we quickly adopted a 3 button approach, very similar to what you would see in a golf or baseball game. You click the button once to start the kick, click again at the top of the meter to set power and finally again at the bottom of the meter to set accuracy. The harder you try and kick it, the more difficult it will be to hit the accuracy window. We have also restored the squib kick mechanic based on community response and new to M17 are ‘sky punt’ and ‘backspin’ options for situational strategies in the kicking game.

Either way they aren't going to fix it because Mrprice confirmed that everything is a design decision including the broken slider, which they don't view as broken because it's a design decision.

My recommendation is to trade it in while it still has value if its a gamebreaker for you.

It's just unfortunate that it has a great kicking engine under the hood now but they nerfed it and locked us out so we have no way to access it.

GAME CHANGING SPECIAL TEAMS

I lifted that quote from the EA website for Madden 17. It is part of a collection of 4 or 5 "big" items it hypes as advertisement for the virtues of the new game that would potentially drive one to make a purchase decision.

I may have paraphrased in my previous post and we may differ on semantics, but I think the intention is quite clear.

I understand people may still miss some FGs on the human side, and while I do think there is room for improvement on that end, my last post specifically referenced the longstanding CPU FG kicking issue.

I am sure EA was trying to direct attention to the new blocks and fakes-which are arguably over done- but the reality is that outside of that new addition the special teams remain status quo from years past and are as disfunctiinal as ever:

Wind effect is overdone.
Long returns are non existent by CPU AI. Actually worse in 17 than years past.
CPU FG attempt logic and accuracy is broken. This is the real "game changer".
Cannot select personnel for kick off team.

The frustration stems from EA's chronic practice of adding in new features while the existing features either half work or don't work at all. Compound this with their propensity for inexplicably removing working features from the game
(this year alone several defensive playbook formations were axed) and it's easy to see how users can get disenchanted.

The practice of finishing what you started would serve EA well and make for a much more enjoyable game experience overall. Sadly, the aforementioned practices have resulted in the stagnation of the series' growth and appeal over the last ten years.

The football junkie in me won't put Madden 17 down quite yet. Three months after release and I still hope against very long odds that EA will put out a blockbuster patch, surprise us all and redeem themselves.

You and I often see things differently with regard to this game, but one thing we do have in common is we both desperately want EA to succeed in delivering the game of football we all love.
