Phils Whitewash Lowly Mets 9-0
Connie Mack Stadium,Phila.Pa.-In a dazzling display of power, the Phillies took Met pitchers deep 3 times today in an absolute romp of a game that the Phils won 9-0.The Mets were able to hang tough early, trailing by only 1-0 after 5 innings but a 6 run 6th inning blew it open for the home team. Not to be outdone,Phils starter Chris Short strengthend his case for the Cy Young award by going 8 strong innings while allowing only 6 hits and 0 runs and striking out 7.Shorts record now stands at 15-5 to go along with a 2.27 ERA and 133 K's.Here's the box score.

Larry Elliot Sinks Phillies 3-2 With 12th Inning Home Run
Connie Mack Stadium,Phila.Pa.-In a rare show of superior baseball skills, the New York Mets hung tough then eventually struck the blow to slay the mighty Phillies. With disaster averted in the 9th thanks to an Adolfp Phillips two out RBI single that tied the game and sent it into extra frames, the Phillies fully expected to put away the lowly Mets with their reprieve.Larry Elliot though had other plans, with one out in the top of the 12th,Elliot took a 1-2 John Tsitouris fastball over the 34ft high right field scoreboard to give NY a much deserved 3-2 victory. Here's the box score.

Phils And Mets Play One For The Ages!
Connie Mack Stadium,Phila.Pa.-In what may end up being the single most thrilling game of the year,The Phillies and Mets played 18 of the most fantastic innings of baseball you will ever witness. The game started off with the Phillies scoring first on a Ken Berry RBI double in the bottom of the second. The Mets would tie it in the fifth courtesy of a Wayne Causey RBI single, but the Phils would come right back in the 6th and take a 2-1 lead on a Gene Alley Sac Fly.The Phils would take that same lead into the top of the 9th where Mets Left Fielder Bob Skinner hit a dramatic game tying home run to send the game into extra innings. The Mets, looking to repeat on the day befores events, rapped 4 singles in the top of the 13th bringing in 2 runs and putting the Phils against the wall, down 4-2.The Phillies responded mightily with 2 runs of their own as a Richie Allen double was followed by a Clay Dalrymple triple and finally an Adolfo Phillips double tying the score once again. The Mets would again take the lead in the top of the 16th on a Joe Christopher two out RBI single making the score 5-4.The Phils again tied it up as Adolfo Phillips singled, stole 2nd and 3rd,and was brought home on a game tying sac fly. Finally in the top of the 18th, New York again scored, this time on a Joe Christopher RBI double giving the Mets another lead, this time 6-5.Miraculously,the Phillies loaded the bases in the bottom of the inning for Gene Alley who finally struck the death blow,a two run walk off single giving Philadelphia an unbelievable 7-6 win. Here's the box score.

Billy Williams Torches Phils Again In 5-1 Cub Victory
Wrigley Field,Chicago,Ill.-Led again by all star left fielder Billy Williams, the Chicago Cubs took down the first place Phillies,5-1.The Cubs were all over Ray Culp early, scoring runs in the 2nd,3rd,4th and 5th innings giving them the 5-1 lead that they would not relinquish.Williams was 3 for 4 with a home run an RBI and a run scored.Ron Santo answered the bell as well, hitting a 2 run shot in the 3rd.On the hill,Cubs starter Cal Koonce had the Phils number all day going 7 strong innings while allowing 6 hits and 1 earned run for his 8th victory of the season.Reliever Wayne Schurr pitched the final two innings giving up a mere single. For the season,Billy Williams has a ridiculous .500 batting average (27 for 54)against Philadelphia as well as 7 home runs and 12 RBI.Here's the box score.
