After an offseason saw the Nets fill out their roster with bad multi-year contracts, they traded a few of them away.
- Traded PG Norris Cole to Pistons for SF Malik Pope
- Traed PF Cliff Alexander to Thunder for C Mitch McGary and a 2019 second round pick
After those trades, the Nets made one more deal to upgrade a position that failed them a season ago: small forward. They traded Rondae Hollis-Jefferson, a 2019 first round pick, and the $4 million contract of Malik Pope to the Magic for SF/SG Evan Fournier.
After the 3 trades, here's how Brooklyn will open the season:

All-Stars: Brook Lopez (2016, 2017), Bradley Beal (2017)

Mirotic and Beal carried the offense down the stretch, as big man Brook Lopez couldn't get anything going for most of the game. Lopez finished with just 10 points and 3 rebounds. Defensively, the Nets couldn't stop the Hawks big men from taking and making threes. Kevin Love dropped 23 points, including 9 from the 3 point line. Mirza Teletovic had 15 of his own off the bench, including 9 from the 3 point line.
Notes: Jeff Teague suffered a broken leg in game 2, and he will be out for the rest of the season for Atlanta. The Hawks went on to win game 4 104-91, extending their series lead to 3-1.

It was a big night for the big men in this one. Brook Lopez totaled 23 points, 9 rebounds, and 6 blocks, with Nikola Mirotic adding 21 points and 8 rebounds of his own. Dennis Schroder quietly orchestrated the offense the entire offense, as he finished with 14 points and 13 assists, while also harassing Jeff Teague all night, eventually finishing with 3 steals. While much of the bench struggled as usual, Rondae Hollis-Jefferson and Thomas Robinson provided huge sparks off the bench. Robinson scored 10 points on 5-5 shooting, while Hollis-Jefferson scored 6 points in just 5 minutes while providing tremendous energy.
Brooklyn got a scare late in the second quarter when Bradley Beal fell hard on his right wrist. Luckily, he was able to complete the game and is only listed as day-to-day now. He is expected to play in game two.

Thaddeus Young and Brook Lopez were the top performers for the Nets, as they combined for 51 of the 80 points. Lopez only grabbed 3 rebounds, something of a concern to Brooklyn coaches. Although he didn't score much, Dennis Schroder orchestrated the offense well throughout the game, tallying 12 assists. Up next for the Nets is a game in San Antonio on October 30th to take on the Spurs.

Newcomer Jimmy Butler provided a huge lift, but it was Kobe Bryant once again who led the Lakers. The Black Mamba led the Lakers with 25 points. Jimmy Butler added 20 points of his own on a very good 8-11 shooting, including 3-3 from three point range. The most underrated player in this game was probably Julius Randle. The undersized center hauled in a massive 14 rebounds and added 10 points to his ledger. The bench scored just 14 points after losing both Nick Young and Khris Middleton to trades. Jeremy Lamb had just 4 points, but expect that number to increase as his role increases.
