ORLANDO - Game one of the new season was a nail biter that eventually saw the Wizards sneaking by the Orlando Magic 101-98. The Wizards were led all night by John Wall, but it was Marcin Gortat who hit the two biggest shots of the night. With just 45 seconds left, Gortat hit a post hook over the much smaller Brandon Jennings to tie the game. Then with 28 seconds left he hit the go-ahead layup after a beautiful feed from Otto Porter. After some free throws and Evan Fournier hitting a 3 at the buzzer, the Wizards snuck out of Orlando with a win.

MILWAUKEE - In a mid-season matchup against the Bucks, the Blazers came away with a 10 point win, 100-91. Damian Lillard struggled from the field early, especially from deep, as he was facing double teams all night. He took over in the 4th quarter, however, once the Bucks came back to tie the game. Lillard ended up with a near triple-double as he finished with 38 points, 15 assists, and 7 rebounds.

One Month Update

After one month of the season the Portland Trail Blazers are 14-7 and sitting in 4th place in the Western Conference. The Blazers also traded reserve center Chris Kaman and their 2016 second round pick to the Detroit Pistons for their 2016 first round pick and center Joel Anthony. That pick could wind up being very valuable, as the Pistons are just 6-14 and have the 4th worst record in the league.

Game 1: 100-85 BKN Without Brook Lopez, the Brooklyn Nets pulled off a 15 point win over the Hawks behind a balanced scoring effort that saw the Nets' leading scorer, Evan Fournier, score just 14

Game 2: 101-86 ATL The Hawks pulled off the game 2 win behind Al Hereford's 18 points. Julius Randle and Dennis Schroder gave the Nets double-doubles, but it wasn't enough, as cold shooting down the stretch cost Brooklyn.

Game 3: 93-69 BKN An amazing defensive effort from the Nets gave them a 2-1 series edge. Brooklyn held the Hawks to just 69 points, including just 4 points in the 3rd quarter. Brook Lopez led the way for the Nets with 25 points, 18 rebounds, and 5 blocks.

Game 4: 107-103 BKN This was a much tougher game than game 3, but the Nets ultimately pulled through with the 4 point win to take a 3-1 series lead. Bradley Beal led the way in scoring with 26 points, but Julius Randle was the MVP of this game, tallying 20 points and 21 rebounds.

Game 5: 101-94 BKN This one was a lot closer than the score indicated, but in the end the Nets won the game and series over the Hawks. Brook Lopez led the team in scoring with 20 points.

The Brooklyn Nets won game 2 113-105 behind a balanced scoring effort that saw Bradley Beal lead the way with 19 points.

The Nets won game 3 111-104, with Beal going off for 40 points, while Thomas Robinson tallied 14 points and 14 boards. The Nets lost Brook Lopez to a twisted knee in this one, however. He is set to be out for 1-2 weeks from the time of the injury.

The Nets then won game 4 97-90 to sweep the series in front of their home fans. With Lopez out of the lineup, Bradley Beal and Julius Randle took over. Beal had a monster first half and 4th quarter, totaling 27 points, 6 rebounds, and 6 assists, while Julius Randle had a huge 3rd quarter with Beal and the rest of the offense struggling. Randle finished with 24 points and 9 rebounds.

Up next is the 1 seed Atlanta Hawks in the Eastern Conference Finals. In the West, the Golden State Warriors got past the Minnesota Timberwolves to advance to the Western Conference Finals, while the Houston Rockets upset the Oklahoma City Thunder to make their way to the Conference Finals as well.

The Nets hope to have Brook Lopez (knee) back for game 2 of the Eastern Conference Finals.

CHICAGO - Game 1 was won handily by the Brooklyn Nets, 107-92. This game was a blowout for a while in the second half until Chicago went on a run to get the deficit to as low as 7, but this one was never really in doubt.

Julius Randle led the way scoring-wise for the Nets, as he dropped 24 points and 7 rebounds. Brook Lopez and Dennis Schroder added double-doubles for Brooklyn. Lopez finished with 18 points, 10 rebounds, and 6 blocks. Schroder finished with 10 points and 15 assists.

Game 1: The Brooklyn Nets somehow found a way to beat the Boston Celtics 97-93 without their two best players: Bradley Beal and Brook Lopez. Tim Hardaway Jr. and Sam Dekker led the way with 17 and 16 points respectively. Overall, a solid team effort helped the short handed Nets.

Game 2: With Brook Lopez back, the Celtics managed to win 104-94, despite Julius Randle's 29 points and 8 rebounds. Dennis Schroder struggled all night, as he managed just 7 points on 2-8 shooting.

Game 3: The Nets blew out the Celtics in Bradley Beal's first game back, 102-84. Beal scored just 12 points, but Julius Randle once again led the way, this time with 21 points, 15 rebounds, and 4 blocks.

Game 4: The two stars for Brooklyn finally showed up as the Nets got past the Celtics easily, 114-99. Julius Randle shot just 1-8 and scored just 5 points, but was once again an animal on the boards, grabbing 21 rebounds. Brook Lopez scored 26 with 7 rebounds and 5 blocks, while Bradley Beal dropped 21 and 6 rebounds.

Game 5: The Brooklyn Nets upset the Boston Celtics 4 games to 1 with a game 5 win by the score of 118-80. Julius Randle once again put in his work, scoring 26 points, grabbing 6 rebounds, and swatting away 4 shots. But it was Dennis Schroder who was the player of the game in this one. He's struggled from the field thus far in the playoffs, but he rebounded in a nice way in this one. He scored 14 points on an efficient 5-8 shooting while dishing out 21 assists.

Next up for the Nets is a date in the second round with the 6th seed Chicago Bulls, who upset the Cleveland Cavaliers 4 games to 2 in round one. Elsewhere throughout the playoffs, the 1 seed Hawks play the 5 seed Pistons. In the West, the 1 seed Warriors play the 5 seed Timberwolves, while the 2 seed Thunder play the 6 seed Rockets.

End of Season Update

The Brooklyn Nets slumped their way to a 44-38 record, good for just the 7th seed in the East. They will play the Boston Celtics in the first round of the playoffs. They'll have to play the first game of the series without their two best players, Brook Lopez and Bradley Beal. Lopez is recovering from a broken finger suffered 2 weeks ago and Beal is close but not quite ready to return from a sprained right knee.

Lopez led the team in scoring and rebounding with 19.0 points per game and 10.1 rebounds per game. Dennis Schroder led the team in assists with 7.6 per game. Lopez also led the NBA in blocks per game with 2.8.

During the All-Star break, the Brooklyn Nets traded PF Nikola Mirotic and a 2020 first round pick to the Los Angeles Lakers for PF Julius Randle. This deal was done to try and help Brooklyn's low-post defense and rebounding.

NEW YORK - The battle of New York City was won by the Brooklyn Nets 99-90. This game was close throughout until a great 3rd quarter defensively by the Nets helped them pull ahead of the Knicks. Carmelo had his usual good game, but he didn't get much support from the rest of his teammates, as Porzingis, his number 2 man, scored only 4 points.

The big men were the story for Brooklyn, as Julius Randle and Brook Lopez combined for 43 points and 16 rebounds. In Randle's first 3 games since being traded from the Lakers to the Nets, he has accumulated 48 rebounds, an average of 16 a game, doing exactly what the Nets brought him in to do.

All-Star Break Update

The Brooklyn Nets sit at 30-22 at the All-Star break, good for the 4th best record in the East. So far it's been a pretty inconsistent season for Brooklyn, as they'll go on 5 game winning streaks quickly followed by 3 game losing streaks. More offense is what coach William Goodrich hopes to find in the second half of the season, as the Nets are scoring 97.8 points per game (22nd in NBA). The Nets are playing good defense, however, as they are allowing 99.3 points per game (8th best in NBA). The bench scoring has been phenomenal for Brooklyn, as both Tim Hardaway Jr. and Trey Burke are averaging more than 8 points per game off the bench.
