Traded: SG Nick Young, SF Khris Middleton, 2018 first round pick to Pelicans for SG Jimmy Butler, C Jeff Withey
Traded: PF Ryan Kelly, C Dewayne Dedmon, 2018 first round pick to Thunder for SG Jeremy Lamb and PF Grant Jerrett
A day after the season opener saw Nick Young and Khris Middleton score 24 of the 28 bench points for the Lakers, both were traded to the Pelicans, with the main prize being Jimmy Butler. After losing depth at the wing, the Lakers went out and traded PF Ryan Kelly and reserve C Dewayne Dedmon for Jeremy Lamb.
Jimmy Butler will step in at the starting small forward position as the Lakers are implementing a small-ball approach this season. Goran Dragic, Kobe Bryant, Jimmy Butler, Tobias Harris and Julius Randle fill out the starting five for the Lakers. Jeremy Lamb will be a scoring threat off the bench as the sixth or seventh man.

LOS ANGELES - This year's season opener went according to plan for the Lakers as they beat the Minnesota Timberwolves 102-87. Although he's now 37 years old and regressing, Kobe Bryant showed everyone he isn't done yet. Bryant led all scorers with 36 points and did so on an excellent 15-22 shooting, including 5-6 from deep. Goran Dragic gave Kobe help all night as he tallied a double-double with 16 points along with 10 assists.
This game was close early in the first quarter, but after Khris Middleton hit a last-second three to end the quarter, it was all Lakers. The scoreboard shows the Lakers won by 15, but it felt like even more than that, as this one was never in question.
Low-post offense continues to be an area of concern for Los Angeles as their starting front-court of Julius Randle and Ed Davis combined for just 9 points. Bench scoring does not look like it'll be an issue this year. Nick Young once again proved he's a valuable sixth man as he dropped 12 points off the bench. Newcomer Khris Middleton added 12 points of his own as those two look like they will carry the second unit all year.

PHOENIX - The Lakers got their first win of the season as they beat the Suns 109-98. The new acquisition, Tobias Harris, proved to all his teammates he means business here in Los Angeles. Harris finished with 28 points on an efficient 11-14 shooting. The Lakers were led in scoring by Kobe Bryant once again, who scored 35 points, this time on a more efficient 15-29 shooting. The wing spot now looks like a strength on this team, as Nick Young also added 19 points off the bench. The issue for Byron Scott now is more about figuring out how to play all three of them an adequate amount each game. The center position continues to be an issue on offense, however. Ed Davis went 0-5 shooting and Dewayne Dedmon provided just 4 points off the bench. Where Davis lacked in scoring he made up for in rebounding, though, hauling in 16 rebounds.

The Lakers made two trades Tuesday after the season opener to improve their issues on the wing.
Traded: C Jordan Hill and SF Wesley Johnson to Magic for SF Tobias Harris and C Dewayne Dedmon
Traded: Wayne Ellington and a 2017 second round pick to Jazz for SF Joe Ingles and 2015 second round pick
Tobias Harris will step in as the new starting SF and hopefully fix the issues at that position. Dedmon will provide depth at C. Wayne Ellington was traded at the owner's request. Joe Ingles will most likely see little to no playing time.

LOS ANGELES - It was a disappointing season opener to say the least for the Los Angeles Lakers as they were defeated by the Houston Rockets 106-82. Kobe Bryant led all scorers with 26 points, but did so on just 11-32 shooting and 4-13 from three. Off the bench Nick Young contributed 13 points and Ronnie Price added 11 points and 6 assists.
For the Rockets, James Harden led the way with 24 points, but it was Dwight Howard who killed the Lakers all night. Howard finished with 16 points and 18 rebounds.
This game leaves Lakers fans wanting changes already. After being out-rebounded by 17, they are calling for more front-court help. More shooting is also being asked for, although coach Byron Scott may choose to start Nick Young in an attempt to fix this problem.

HOUSTON - In a game where neither offense had its best effort, the Washington Redskins pulled out the 22-7 win over the Houston Texans. A nice drive by Ryan Fitzpatrick finished off with a touchdown pass to Andre Johnson at the end of the first half looked to give the Texans the lead going into halftime, but Robert Griffin III had other ideas. A perfect drive finished off by a 17 yard touchdown pass to Andre Roberts with 17 seconds left gave the Redskins a big lift going into the half.
After a pretty pedestrian second half by the offense, the Redskins defense came up with a big sack and safety with just 2:49 left in the game to give them a 15-7 lead. The next and final drive by the Redskins saw Alfred Morris bust off a couple good runs and was finished off by an 18 yard run by Robert Griffin III. The next game for the 'Skins is their home opener against the Jaguars (0-1) at 1:00 PM EST.
