Game Informer has just posted their MLB The Show 17 video tour of Franchise Mode with Ramone Russell and host, Brian Shea. Make sure to check it out and post your thoughts!
I do wonder, however, if these would require loading everything for a new environment (stadium, players, jerseys, etc.). The situation itself probably takes the least to load, especially since it's assumed they have already loaded the situation in the background (which prompted the critical moment).
Don't know if it can be done too quickly is all.
Yeah, it would have to be some type of background loading. Not how results for the out-of-town scores are pre-simmed, then updated within your current stadium. Definitely promising seeing how there's just a one-time load into a game, then jumping in/out of quick manage instantly and seamlessly.
Let's say you play Critical Moments for all 30 teams throughout the week. Is there a way we can see those Critical Moments saved under the hood, then turned into a Highlight show?
That's a possibility. ESPN NFL 2K5 has a highlight show that saves your biggest play on the HDD. Significantly less elements to load with that though (including stadium for the most part), but it's there. The rest were pre-rendered.

Can the game load elements in the background while you're playing? Maybe over the course of 20 minutes, they could load up the other fourteen games on the schedule (stadiums, players, jerseys, etc.) and reserve it on the HDD for future use. Then when a "moment" occurs in another game, they can either play it out live for us or play it out as a highlight if we jump into it.
I don't know how well background loading does with a game's performance, though. Doubt it's in this year anyway, but I'm scavenging all possibilities.
Heck, if they are live cut-ins, you don't even need to load fourteen other games. Probably ten, maximum... except for the last game of the season, of course.
Double play turn was BS. No way the 2B gets that much heat on that throw.
I've seen a few of those during the streams now. I'll reserve final judgement until I've played multiple games but I hope those kinds of plays are the exception rather than the rule.
Thank the baseball gods - The Show won the market battle with 2k!
I fully agree with you, i'm a big fan of the show and will always support them.
That being said, the show took over some things from 2k, one of them being gesture pitching.
They way 2k implemented that was great, different gestures for different pitch types.
Another thing they did first was the mlb live games (don't know if it's the correct name) where you can play the actual game that's scheduled for that day with the correct line up.
Another thing they nailed was the commentary, it was really outstanding
For the rest the 2k games always felt very very unfinished and unresponsive.
MLB the show has simply always been the better game.
I really appreciate how the guys from SDS come on here to talk and listen to their fans. They keep improving the game (in my opinion).
But i really wish there was another baseball game out there, because I do feel that healthy competition is a good thing and as stated above it did help to further improve mlb the show (again, in my opinion)
I certainly do not mean by this that SDS is not doing their best every year on this game. It's more about other teams/companies thinking differently or coming up with different stuff that can be adopted by the show as well.
Here's hoping that the pro yakyuu series comes to PS4 in the future, would love to play that game.
