A couple of thoughts:

I love the MLB Network overlays; I hope Kirby continues to expand that next year with additional presentations.

Foul ball replay!

It's small but I'd love to see no cut-scenes when the catcher is throwing the ball back to the pitcher; both after a take/swing and foul ball. Just stay in the same camera from start to finish...kind of like real-time view.

I LOVE the additional catcher setups. Gosh, it adds so much realism.

HR and Plesac actually sound really good; I do feel there still is a bit much in dead air but I'll guess more lines next year will help with that. I do wish Matty was a bit more personable and talking with the commentators...I'd like to hear more dialog versus just Q:A or single comment types.

The Dodgers were 93-27 which equates out to 118 wins over the entire season when Kirby was showing the season calendar. The OS hybrid rosters can mitigate that with rating adjustments but still...yikes!

Besides Matty V being boring and sounding exactly the same as in 16,15,14,13,12 and so on the "dead air" is real issue as well. To many times it is dead silent when the commentary should be talking about something. NBA2k and even MLB 2K did this so well! Both those game have almost constant chatter back and forth from the booth!

What I would love to know is it what version of MLB The Show will the commentary reach the level of NBA 2K or even Madden for that matter?

I'll give you another bad example!

At the start of the game in today's stream why didn't Matty V introduce himself and the other two commentators at the start of the broadcast? This is how it is always done on real baseball broadcasts!

Matty V should have said something like this

"Good evening everyone I am Matt Vasgersian along with my partners Harold Reynolds and Dan plesac"

I have a Franchise/gameplay prediction. I think we are now going to be able to see career stats player v player. Last stream Ramone said do not press left or right on the D-Pad and this stream we got the commentary with history vs this pitcher etc. I think when you press left or right on the D-Pad you are going to get some of these historical stats. Maybe Darren O'Day is a great pitcher but when you look at the historic stats in game you realize you shouldn't bring him in vs Bautista because of the lifetime stats. Just a prediction and might not actually be true but with these pieces of info from the last two streams I could (hope to) see this coming!!

Same here! I think doing this would be beneficial and add more realism.

Btw I really enjoyed HR on the stream. He sounds the best IMO.

Sorry, couldn't help it.

So I have a question regarding the presentation packages. What happens when I have custom intro music for teams and I select the MLB Network Presentation will I still get the MLB Network music? or will it be my custom music?

A few thoughts. Some repeats, but worth throwing out there. First, the game looks great. This team just continues to fix, tinker, and add updates and it is obvious they listen to us. Can't wait to play this year's game, which is saying something considering some years are more exciting than others. Those of you overly concerned with the commentary or jerseys...are you seeing the forest through the trees?

Only a few minor personal preference things. First, because fouls happen so frequently (I actually enjoy this aspect, its more realistic), the foul ball animations should be added to. I see the quick-grab-of-bat-when-flipped-up animation A TON. Often, I see the batter do it 2, 3 times in a row. Its a great animation, but I see it a lot.

Next, we really need more cameras to show off these amazing stadiums and the new ball flight physics. I noticed the camera used when shifting defense is actually not terrible for those of us who might want to see the entire field while playing. I'd like a nice isometric slightly up view too. That's also retro...think Earl Weaver BB or that old Atari one. The camera I'd pay $200 bucks for would be one that shows the entire field, ball flight, and let's me watch all the players in real time. No cut scenes, let me watch all those amazing animations taking place like a real game from the fan's perspective.

There is a camera view in the game that does not change. It remains active for the entire duration of the play. But you have to be part of the fringe "MoM Dugout View" weirdos like yours truly to use it. Not sure how many of us are out there, but we are a small group and I will be disappointed beyond belief if they ever take MoM + the Dugout Camera view out of the game. However with this camera, you watch the entire play from the pitch to the very end of the play when the ball is thrown back into the infield with no cut scenes at all. Is it the perfect camera? No of course not. With this camera you are watching the game from the dugout. Sort of like a fans view, but in this case the manager's view.

If they are going to keep Matty V around, at least give him some new play-by-play lines..I heard many repeats..As I type, I am only listening and when Matt speaks, you really can't tell much of a difference between 16 and 17.

In franchise mode, is commentary Dynamic, meaning does the presentation package change from different games or different part of the season. It would be more realistic that way instead of having us choose ourselves.

Yes there are specific games on the calender where the MLB network presentation will be used and then the rest of the games will be the generic themes

So I just went back to listen to the game and the call for the Cabrera HR seemed fine to me. Matty V elevated his voice and sounded suprised at the lead off HR
I don't understand what people want out of commentary, do they want them to be going crazy at every play?

EDIT: Also I'm loving the inclusion of Harrold Reynolds his commentary sounds so natural as if he's calling a real game and as others have said Plesac didn't really seem to talk a lot but the stuff he did say sounded rather robotic and you could tell he was in a studio just rewarding lines off a script
But all in all i enjoyed the commentary of this game and was much improved on last year

Home run calls sound great to me. Eventually it weans out to another comment afterward that feels significantly more mundane, but you can only do so much.

I'm actually waiting to see crowds all stand up and jump up and down for home runs, etc. They still all pretty much sit in their seats, motionless.

EDIT: Off-topic, but I'm weirded out that a member with the username Jon Arbuckle liked one of my posts, given the avatars I have used for the past five years.

What be you???

This is something I've wanted for a long time too, I do remember seeing a home run in one of the IGN videos where the Cubs hit one and all the crowd did stand up and got a bit louder as the ball flew into the seats

Don't get me wrong, they definitely animate more (I'm sure the game cues up certain crowd animations for home runs), but it certainly isn't the major uproar you'd otherwise see.

Maybe considering the last real ball I've seen was from the 2016 playoffs, I'm misremembering what crowds generally do on any ol' home run.

Crowd reactions in the moment have lacked from every sports game that I've ever played. I've made some posts in the past on this, but I'd love to see reactions more like these:

Obviously these are all post-season HRs, so the reactions are even more intense, but there's a similarity in all of them. The fans all stand up as the ball approaches the fence and cheers grow. Then there's a crescendo as the ball lands and nearly everyone's hands go up in near unison. I haven't played a game yet that has captured moments like this realistically, but I'm holding out hope for the day one does.

When you umpire you go "ear to ear" and "chin to head" with the catcher. For a rift handed batter, the umpires chin should be even or just about the helmet of the catcher and the umpires right ear should be even with the left ear of the catcher. It is opposite ears for the left handed batter. Yes, I am an umpire. This is a glaring issue for me. Probably no one else cares. The umpires uniforms are not anything like what they wear in the bigs.

This is the black shirt: https://www.ump-attire.com/Baseball-...-Charcoal-Grey

This is the blue shirt: https://www.ump-attire.com/Baseball-...lue-with-Black

It looks like a pretty simple fix that would add a big touch to the game.

I don't really have any immediate thoughts on the presentation/commentary, but since someone else brought up umpire animations/mocap, I might as well piggy back off of it.

The catcher and umpire "animations" has always been concerning but I've never once mentioned it before, and one of the major reason why I feel the Show's animation is still lacking "life" or that "essence" if you will. In the world of animation, there's a concept referred to as "moving holds." Even if a person trying their hardest to stay completely still, they can't. There is always subtle movements. And unfortunately the catcher/umpire animations in MLB the Show are not implementing the important concept of moving holds, resulting in their animations looking almost life-less so to speak.

Take notice of the catcher/umpire staying completely still (after the pitcher's leg kick) waiting for the pitch. It's as if the catcher/umpire went into "pause mode." I would consider this to be a legacy concern that I've always notice but never ever mentioned.

Take notice of the catcher/umpire having "sway" and "movement" (after the pitcher's leg kick) throughout the entire pitching sequence; subtle movements as they wait for the pitch. Also take notice of the catcher's glove movements.
