We're doing our best to address it but even with thousands of new Vasgersian lines, this year was primarily about replacing 10 years of color commentary. No small feat. Our entire team is only about a quarter the size of 2Ks. There's only so much we can do in a year. We busted our butts this year to get in all that we could. I'm sure we set a single year record for time in the recording studio for the 15 years I've been working on this game.

But by all means, continue to beat this horse. You're only going to splatter yourself with horse matter.

Dude, that isn't necessary.

Found this video of Harold and Matt praising the dev team on their Hot Stove show. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Az4wawuFn8U

It's not even about who agrees with who at this point. We could just do without all the repeat posts, whether that pertains to Matt V's excitement level or the height of the numerals on the jerseys, or the exact shade of the jerseys. That is literally spamming. Make your point once and make it well, then move on. Some of you guys have a nasty habit of making a dozen posts about the same exact gripe.

The devs also shouldn't need to re-explain things to people 10 times in 10 different ways. Especially to people who post here often. They show great patience in attempting to, however.

Well stick with playing 16 then since you are so sure about the "lack" of play by play improvements. Cmon man, They have redone most of the commentary and we've only seen 1 stream on it so far. So I think the judgment on the presentation improvements is a bit premature. I agree it has gotten stale over the years but adding 2 new guys and redoing most of Matt's lines is a big leap in the right direction if you ask me. I'm excited about that.

I appreciate the efforts this dev team puts forth every year. It's obvious they are baseball fans and they care about their product. Being the only MLB game on the PS4, they could just rest on their laurels and just do the minimum from year to year. But I believe they strive to improve yearly and I think this will be one of the biggest leaps in improvements in a yearly cycle of this game in a long time. I've been really impressed with the additions and improvements that we've heard about so far (and that's not even counting Franchise and RTTS improvements).

So if you don't feel they are doing enough and you aren't expecting much, don't give them your money this year and enjoy another year of playing 16 and listening to Karros and Lyons.

Sorry for the misunderstanding but I have zero issues with Matt , even if he hadnt recorded new lines. But I can empathise with those who do and it doesnt bother me when they voice their opinion, as long as its done respectfully. Maybe its time OS put a ban on talk of Vasgersian's emotion. Its certainly the last I have to say on the subject.

For the record, I wasn't talking specifically about you but OS in general. Sorry if it came off that way since I was responding to your post. We don't care that we don't have any competition currently. We still strive every year to make the best baseball game ever. We put our all into it. We appreciate that you guys are the hardcore fans and we all want to make the best game possible for you guys. Kirby along with Compton have only had a year and a half on The Show handling play by play and color commentary full time to make their mark on it. Give them some time. They have big plans for it but it's all not going to happen at once.

ETA: And by all means, keep the feedback coming. You guys have some great ideas. You all are passionate fans. We like that we have a partnership with the community and that you guys continue to push us to make the best baseball game we can.

When we beat that horse I bet the red of its blood is closer to the red of the Nationals alternate jersey than the way it looks in the game!

Am I right uniform guys!????!!!!?

(I'm joking! We need some humor around here!)

Some of you guys need to show a little more respect and gratitude that the developers (especially multiple) even post and answer our questions. They're busy enough, but show what kind of company they are by coming here, I for one appreciate every post.
It was absolutely a joke. How can there be an "underlying" shot when the shot has been overexposed a thousand times over since Thursday? We were told to stop with the uniform stuff and the Matty V emotion stuff multiple times and through it all Steve was kind enough to respond to us and tell us that they are taking all of our feedback into account but he also hilariously told us we've beaten the horse into liquid form. So I facetiously took it to the uniform joke yet again but not to continue the discussion but to be silly and stupid about it. I absolutely cannot stress any further how I meant it in humor which is why I said so in the post and I attempted to make that as clear as possible. I'd delete my post to not offend someone like you who insists that every criticism is a hatred of the devs but I won't delete my post because deleting it would be admitting that it was a cheap shot and not a joke. With that said if a mod wants to delete my joke then go ahead that's up to them and I respect their decision on it. I hope several were able to read my post as it was intended to be read. This place sometimes cracks for the slightest things.

Jeez. I take a night off to have dinner and drinks with friends and you all loose your minds.

First, when I say on topic I mean on topic. Anything that is talked about in a Stream is up for discussion not just the listed topic of the Stream.

Second, when a Mod says stay on topic or you are getting banned, we are not playing.

Third, just because you make a snarky, rude, spamming or trolling post that is "on topic" does not excuse the fact that your post is inappropriate. This will still get you banned and multiple post will get you more than a week off.

Lastly, some you newer members may not know this, but this section of OS was the only one to not get the "Ban Hammer" speech from Millennium every year. We had the easiest time moderating this thread because everyone was carrying on intelligent, respectful and great discussions. We didn't always agree but we argueed in a matter that was a benefit to everbody.

So one last time. Enough is enough. This applies to all threads for streams going forward. Have good intelligent discussion on any topic covered in the stream. Disagree with each other. But be productive, respectful and good things will come. Continue on with this juvenile and ridiculous behavior and it is not going to end well for anybody.

Sounds like this is just the beginning of the commentary overhaul based on Steve's posts, so I'm excited to see how it evolves.

Adding individual player stories is a nice touch, but they do get old very quickly once you've heard them a few times, so be careful what you wish for there, fam. I actually prefer more generic commentary for that reason, and having the extra stat commentary for batter walk-ups is very huge, imo, and adds a ton to the overall presentation, not to mention the new statcast commentary.

Yeah definitely will make it more immersing. Loving the batter vs. pitcher career stats that pop up too. Great addition.

I can honestly say that I've seen nothing but negativity from all your posts this year. To say that we shouldn't expect much this year is absolutely ridiculous. This dev team is the most active on any forum that I've ever seen listening to feedback and implementing our ideas into their game. Lemme say that again. OUR ideas into THEIR game. Who does that? They don't have to do that. They don't have to come in here everyday and take feedback about what we want to see. But they do, bc they know we are all passionate fans of baseball and they want to make the best baseball game they possibly can for us. So give them a break, they're already doing more for us than any other dev team ever would.

I really hope we will see her in MLB The Show 18 as a Studio update reporter!

Even just her voice with fancy MLB Network Stat overlays would be fantastic!

You can see that the items that do not get old are pretty much all stats based...and that's just a few examples. The color guys get old, drag the commentary down to a certain degree. No knock on these guys as announcers, but it is the paradigm the game has to use.

Baseball is about stats. The game sounds fresh, and real, when stats are referenced throughout the broadcast. Personally, I don't really care if Player X spent his summers swinging a bat in a swimming pool (just an example). Stuff like that will be repeated over and over. I usually wind up shutting down the color guys and just listening to PbP during the game.

Now, there's a thoughtful post. This is something that might be taken to heart. I can do without a joke, or funny line. I remember some of the commentary being player/team specific (something like Matt Cain is the backbone of the Giants pitching staff.....note: I'm just paraphrasing and don't recall if that was in the game or not, but something like that). But that ruined immersion if Cain got traded and it was said again.

Immersion is when I hear an amazing "He went 0-5 in yesterday's game". Amazing how that is slipped into the game. The "funny" lines seem to be too often repeated (Remember Hudler saying something about "meat", but can't quite recall the line).

The bolded gets lost with people here on OS.

I don't believe for a second SCEA is lazy or goes the easy way out...rather, they have integrity and dignity to ensure the game is the absolute best of the franchise. Also, they're baseball fans like us! If I recall, one of the devs was talking about their RTTS season last year and how some of the changes this year has him really excited for his own playing.

Whether there is competition such as 2K or another firm, or if SCEA is the only baseball product out there...I truly believe each year's game is the best their team can provide.

Before I say some stuff that could be perceived as unduly harsh, I'd like to emphasize that I'm quite impressed and honestly surprised by how awesome The Show franchise continues to be despite its lack of serious competition. This is surely due to the passion and integrity of the development team and I give them full credit for going above and beyond what the market probably demands of them. Also, I do hope this post doesn't earn a ban since it's a continuation of a conversation involving a developer. The concept of market competition also has a direct impact on the quality of a game's commentary and presentation, something I'll touch on below.

All that said: I'm sorry but I think the bolded statement in the above post is a bit naive. Competition is almost always helpful as a motivator to greater efficiency and/or innovation. I used to casually play football games and I still remember how brutal the competition between 2K and EA was back in the early oughts. I loved the faster and more responsive gameplay of 2K on the Dreamcast but was blown away by the lifelike (for the time) first footage released of Madden on PS2 and played it for a couple years, during which time I grew to appreciate Madden's physics. Then 2K lured me back with improved graphics and a licensing agreement with ESPN (on topic!) at a ridiculous price. The advances made in football games during those years almost surely would have come more slowly had only one of those games had a virtual monopoly. I still remember how gutted I was when EA's exclusive deal to make NFL games was announced. And while I stopped playing football games long ago, from what I've heard EA most definitely could have used some competition in recent years.

Give The Show proper competition over the last five or so years and maybe we get proper hit physics earlier. Maybe unrealistic/poor CPU team management gets cleaned up. Maybe player models move beyond their PS3 roots more quickly. Maybe uni accuracy/inclusion becomes a bigger thing complete with DLC. Maybe retractable roofs are there from year one on PS4. Maybe commentary gets a revamp that much sooner (on topic!) Maybe the competition implements several of these improvements...

I myself have looked abroad for competition to The Show by importing PYS and while I still ended up coming back to The Show there are several aspects of the Konami game that I consider superior. One of the smaller examples of this (but on topic!) is PYS's hyper-realistic stadium advertisements. I can't begin to imagine how awesome baseball videogaming would be right now if Konami had also had an MLB license during these last five years or so.

# 299 Speedy @ 03/06/17 01:35 PM
I understand your point but I don't believe it's naive to think competition isn't necessary to drive a company to new heights. If EA Sports was remaking MVP, I don't think that would change SCEA's model, ideas or gameplans for each years iteration. I believe they've proven, by their own full disclosure and willingness to listen/discuss to their fans that they strive to make the best game that the fans want. Ultimately, competition doesn't matter as much as making a product that satisfies its users.

In any event...that's going outside of the thread here. Send me a PM if you want to discuss it further.

I dont know how many linbes of commentary was in previous Shows but the over 15,000 added just in 17 makes me think its going to be tough to hear repeats in the same game, at least I hope so.

as for the Shows competition I feel like they do have some really formidable competion, just not from where you would normally expect it. Namely Madde, NBA2K, CoD, Battlefield, GTA, Overwatch and a few others.
