I know a lot of news has already come out about some of the gameplay features for NBA 2K17 but hopefully this blog can give you a fuller picture of what to expect when you get your hands on the game and clear up some of the questions you might have. Sad to hear the shot creator is MyCAREER only, but I didn't even realise something like that was possible?! So can't be that mad!

This is great news. A little pet peeve of mine in 2k16.

Any idea if it will make the day one patch (assuming there is one)? Or will it be a later date?

Thanks for all the info Mike, really appreciate it.

I have two quick questions for you:

1. Can we now choose our inbounder during the timeout? I want to choose my best passer to inbound the ball after TOs, but it's always the biggest guy on the court.

2. Will there be a MyLeague/MyGM blog soon?

Can you patch in user controlled back tap rebounds maybe turbo with a hard press of the rebound button, just imagine the fun we would have with that risk and reward feature. Sorry that's a noob question I'm not sure what can be patched or not

Does your last name rhyme with HANG or LONG? I've heard both used regarding you. Or do you not mind either one?

Lastly, is Right stick passing still in the game along with Rb? The reason many people refuse to convert to the shot stick shooting is because icon passing leading directly into a catch and shoot with the button is more intuitive and fluid than icon passing to shot stick catch and shoot imo. However, if right stick passing is still in the game then that finger coordination from button to button will seamlessly translate to stick to stick if that makes sense. It's not that hard to train yourself to always pull down IMO. And remember, if you're in the paint aiming doesn't apply so shooting out of the post is the same as last year.

And yes. RS passing is still there. You can set it to either normal or flashy passes in the options menu.

I tweaked the broadcast cameras a bit to not zoom in so close when the offense is bringing the ball up. So it is slightly better this year, but that will always be one of the downsides of playing in broadcast

pump fakes were rewritten several years ago. Often times when we rewrite systems, legacy features like MJ's one-handed fake end up getting cut and it's not trivial to add that support back in. Like everything else in development, it's just a matter of prioritizing.

Hey Mike can you answer me if these legacy issue have been addressed?

-calling timeout as you're fumbling a pass out of bounds

-3 second count reset if you run out of bounds and hop back in (wasn't addressed in basic team up mode)

-defensive AI not getting back as quickly as the offensive AI after made baskets

-spamming timeouts together to recoup full stamina and never subbing

-intentional fouling at end of games (lack of instant foul button)

- offensive fouls away from the ball resulting in free throws

I've must have the toughest questions.

Can you manually trigger a protect the ball animation when driving to the hoop ex marbury against players/cpu that love to strip the ball.

Can you Alley Oop spin out of post position animation like Blake griffin does.

Do AI big man that are known to push the ball during a break like draymond green push the ball.

Another thought: does the new clutch/grab function basically enable a hack a Shaq strategy? And on that note, are the hack a Shaq rules (1 shot+possession inside of 2 minutes) built into the game?

Abandon Shot Stick

Introduce Right Stick Advanced Controls

Press Up - Tip in Rebounds
Press Down - Backtap Rebounds
Hardpress Left - Protect ball while driving
Hardpress Right - Eurostep control direction with Left Stick
Hardpress Left/Down - Power Dribble
Hardpress Right /Down - Hipcheck

If you don't jump on this idea NBA Live will.

Not really gameplay questions but no idea who else to ask.

Last year in MyLeague the option to stop skmeone from retiring got introduced which a lot loved and we then discussed if it could maybe be expanded so we could have the option like 3 times instead of only once per player. I hope this made it in.

Also it is coo, we can now retire jerseys bit could this be tweaked so it is up to us players to decide when we wamt it, like for example i have a player that just signed back to the team for one final season after he played years for a different team i love to retire his jersey and not be restricted that he has to play for a bunch more years before i can.

Also it was asked year after year we can have an option to unretire jerseys which i hope made it in this year specially withthe rebranding being so much fun it would only make sense that we can give a team a whole new start without being restricted to retired jerseys. Would also make sense since we can now retire jerseys to also have the option to unretire them.

Another MyLeague function that been requested and talked avout last year was the option to just control 1 team but have the option to quit control of that team and take control of another without having to restart all over again or having to control all teams i sure hope this made it in too.

This is why I still play NBA 2k12 to this day. It's my favorite version of 2k and I've owned every last one of them since the series first began on Dreamcast and even before that when it was NBA Action. 2k12 had the right balance of controls and moves. It has the most indepth control scheme allowing for largest variety of signature moves per situation. I'm really excited with a lot of the changes and additions coming to 2k17 as it seems it will be the only 2k to rival to the depth and control of 2k12. Hopefully in 2k18 all of the legacy moves will return. There is a substantial audience of 2k buyers who appreciate the legendary teams and players. Utilizing the power of next gen systems to fully bring them to life would be unreal. I think its really a missed opportunity being that Jordan is still under contract with you guys. As a game developer myself I understand its just a matter of prioritizing. But Keep up the great work as always , you guys are some of the best devs in the industry and I've been a fan since day 1.

Wow B, I feel bad for having it wrong in my head all these years.

Are there more long rebounds on deep jumpers, rebounding balance between guards and bigs have been historically too skewed toward the bigs by missed shots all coming off the rim within 3 feet of the basket.
