Madden NFL 17 News Post

I'll admit to being someone who read about Madden 17's "Play The Moments" (PTM) as being something gimmicky that I probably wouldn't touch. I have never trusted the Super Sim engine of Madden, and I like to play out all of my games in their entirety. But, I wanted to check it out anyway as it is one of Connected Franchise Mode's (CFM) new features for Madden 17.

What I wasn't expecting was that I would actually really like the feature, and plan to use it in my solo CFM.

15 minutes, for sure. (check my sliders for more info)

Simulation and gameplay work off of the same injury slider, FYI.

Thanks. I messed around a bit with it last night with 8 and 9 minute quarters and they seemed a bit short. Makes sense that 15 minutes is the way to go. I assume your sliders are the way to go for a CFM that is going to be played only with Play the Moments?

Does any one else feel the key moments aren't enough? Just for example on defense you get to play 3rd downs and redzone opportunities, but if I'm down by 3 and just punted I feel that whole drive should be a key drive for my defense.

I know we can jump in whenever we want, I'm just saying there needs to be more "moments" than just 3rd downs and redzone opportunities.

Used this mode for the four preseason games in my CFM and I've got to say, I like it. I haven't used it during my regular season games, as I like to play every down of those, but I was really impressed by what I saw.

Does anybody know if this play the moment mode or slow sim mode is in PS3 version?

Nope, XB1/PS4 only.

PTM still has some issues:

1. HB run for 4 or 5 yard gains far too frequently, and not enough 0, 1, 2, or 20+ yard runs. Because of this, in short yardage situations, running plays are successful 95% of the time.
2. Thrown-to stat is not recorded (as mentioned in the article)
3. Penalties are infrequent. However maxing out the penalty sliders seems to help.

My main peeve is #1. Anyone have a solution for it?

I like the mode overall but I'm seeing weird things like the CPU RB running the ball for 5-6 plays straight without even subbing for their backup... any way to fix this?

Also, XPs should be 'play the moment'. Deciding to go for one or two is a big thing IMO.

Definitely this. Being i know that coaches don't call every play on both sides of the ball, play the moments cpu vs CPU on slow speed is what coach mode should be!

@All -

Was wondering if I could use "Play the Moment" and hop into the game and ONLY play offense (for the entire game) and let "Play the Moment" engine kick in for defense? Is that possible?

Loving this mode but made a thread about RB attempts being way to high. Like 30-38 very single game for the RB1.

Play The Moments is an amazing feature to me. The way that I play, is I start every game normal without play the moments, I play the first offensive and defensive series every game, then do play the moments for the rest of the game. I love it because you get to play and have an impact in the game, but your also simming and it gives you an idea of how your team plays without you. Not only that but you see injuries to linemen in which you would not see if you were playing the full game. It is quick, fun and for those who like to see how their team they put together (seasons down the road) plays its great. I am at the midway point as the Panthers owner in year 1, we are 6-2, have the 3rd best defense, and 21st in offense. The statistics are great. I just wish I coukd figure out auto subs because I had one game where Stewart ran the ball 31 times, and Newton ran it 6 and tolbert ran it twice, but no other backs got carries. I would like to have it where Stewart runs 20-24 and Artis Payne runs 5-8. But all in all it is a GREAT way to play. I used to play 6 games and simukate the rest in my franchises but this is 10 times better.

#1 is kinda funny though, I did PTM vs the Vikes in my Jets CFM and Peterson had something like 13 straight 5 yard runs to score a TD on their opening drive. Couldn't help but laugh.

What would be cool for me is if you could do all offense and PTM on defense. Game would go quicker and I'm not big on playing D.

Does anyone else have issues with only one RB getting all the carries? In PTM, I find my starting RB finishing with 30+ carries and my back up with 0.

One workaround is to use formation subs to stick your HB2 into a handful of different formations. They'll get some touches then.

I notice that as the Packers, I have almost NO big plays on offense. My longest play to end a season will be like 32-yards. This may have to do with the McCarthy playbook. Anyone else have experience with this?

I do love that you can configure your formation subs and play the moment will account for them. It's a great way to get your rotational guys on the field.

I skip a lot of moments because I'm not a great play caller. To the point where I eventually just go full on CPU vs CPU lol

As someone mentioned in another thread, fatigue must be set to around 75-80 for more realistic number of carries. Mine is set to that and I typically see accurate run stats

Play the Moment saved Madden for me. Every year I would play one or two seasons until All Pro got too easy. Then Id get frustrated playing All Madden and just quit and sell the game. With play the moment, not only can I get through seasons much faster (the draft is my favorite part of the game anyways), but also the fact that the game relies on sim makes the difficulty level less of a big deal. Im now in 2033, and played the first 13 years on all Pro. I switched to All Madden, and just won the Super Bowl on a last sec play.

I "play the moment" every game except the super bowl. Playing the super bowl, complete game on all madden actually made it feel like a great challenge, which it should, its the super bowl! Winning hat game, on all madden, may have been my favorite madden moment in the past 20 years of buying this game.

I have to give credit to the developers. PTM was so well integrated, and the difficulty levels this year are much better (all pro is a little harder than it used to be and all madden is a little easier, or at least less cheesy). With these changes, Ive played this game this year for more hours than the last five versions combined. This dev team has definitely won me over.
