Madden NFL 17 News Post

I'll admit to being someone who read about Madden 17's "Play The Moments" (PTM) as being something gimmicky that I probably wouldn't touch. I have never trusted the Super Sim engine of Madden, and I like to play out all of my games in their entirety. But, I wanted to check it out anyway as it is one of Connected Franchise Mode's (CFM) new features for Madden 17.

What I wasn't expecting was that I would actually really like the feature, and plan to use it in my solo CFM.

I love the mode. It's basically custom designed for me.

I really like the sound of PTM, as for me, I don't have hours upon hours on end to delve deep into CFM, so this could suit me perfectly when time is tight

Here is my testimony:

I took off work yesterday to play the game [like everyone else 😆] and in one day I was able to get 13 games deep into my franchise. I did skip pre season but I did do training every week. While playing each game I felt fully engaged and felt the plays I did run impacted the outcome. It did not feel cheap at all. And now because I know I can get through several seasons in a short time...I actually pay more attention to scouting and resigning players. And at ANY point during the game you can turn this feature on or off. There is no downside. It's a wonderful feature.

Oh one more thing...you CAN jump back into PTM during the game if you opt out. If you select the SuperSim option it will give you the option to only PTM. So you can go back and forth at will.

I've always been someone who plays every single franchise game. However, this sounds like I need to definitely check it out.

Having played a couple of Franchise games using the PTM feature, I like it. It's a fun way to play some of the less 'big' games.

I did have one quirky experience. I was down by 8 with 1:30ish to go and PTM prompted me to drive to tie the game. I marched down the field and scored a TD, but the PTM logic (don't what to to call it) went back to simming and didn't let me play the 2 pt attempt. CPU didn't make the 2 and I ended up losing.

That's really been the only bummer in an overall fun experience with Madden so far.

This feature is incredible and the fact that SuperSim is fixed also means that if the game is out of hand you can sim to the finish without getting ridiculous stats and move onto the next week.

I plan on mixing this into my CFM to generate more injuries.

This feature is fantastic and I love how you still get ALL injuries because it's technically simming but visually. It's perfect for us coach mode or cpu v cpu guys.

Lipstick on a pig.
No it's not the same as SuperSim. It's much better.

I enjoy the mode. The only drawback for me is that at end of games the opponent usually drives the field and scores using maybe 15 seconds of the clock and reserving all time outs.

Guess I'll have to control the defense at all times in the 4th to stop this.

I thought it would be a feature that isn't very good, but I used it on some preseason games and I liked it a lot. I doubt I use it much because I play all my regular season CFM games, but maybe use it just for preseason games. Or start a PTM CFM only.

I usually play week 4, 8, 12, and 16 and sim everything else including the playoffs. I was having fun with ptm last night so I might cut back to playING two full games a year and ptm for the rest including the playoffs.. Also, bumping up difficulty quite a bit for each round of the playoffs to make it feel harder like the playoffs should be.

I don't see how this is better than I expected. It's pretty much identical to what I expected. I just don't like to sim any plays. When you sim plays all the stats and everything don't even matter because they don't represent the plays you ran. I understand people wanting to use this but I'd rather take longer to finish a season than finish a season quickly with computer generated stats/results. Being able to skip all between play cut scenes quicker would be the real winner.

Absolutely love this feature. I mean, I was already pretty much doing this before, but making it fully automatic makes it even better. Already two season down in my cfm because of it.

One thing I wanted to add about this feature is I wish it didn't cut out the commentary in the pre-game introduction. I understand it cuts it out after you complete each Play the Moment objective during the game. But I like to hear all the opening remarks that they give before the kickoff.

I used "Play the Moments" and "Just Play Offense" during my EA Acess time so I could get more done during my 10 hours. Play the Moments is just like watching the Redzone channel, it is quite effective if you only have a few minutes to spare.

I tried it and I get the appeal but it needs to drop you in on offense more often.

So wait, do you get injuries in slow or you do not? I felt I read both ways. Can anyone clarify please.

I think you get injuries in all speeds.
Just that if you use Fast or Normal - it uses the Sim Engine so includes O-Line Injuries. With Slow using the Game Engine it only has Skill Player Injuries.

This mode is a game-changer for me. I've always struggled with balancing simulating games so that I can progress in my franchise and playing all the games so that I could feel more immersed in each season. Now I can do something like play the division games and PTM for non-division games or something like that and still make good progress while still getting the experience of playing each game. Really wonderful addition.

As someone already noted, is it basically the same as Supersim? For the past couple of years, since I have less time to play, I've played offense-only and supersimmed defense.

I've had pretty decent results with that. Just wondering if this brings anything more to the table than Supersim. Thanks!
