Jack Nicklaus Perfect Golf is available now on Steam for Windows, OSX and Linux with plans to release it soon for consoles and Android TV.

Quote:
Jack Nicklaus Perfect Golf features an integrated online multiplayer with an in-game lobby for matchmaking. The game includes a fully integrated tournament function that allows external community sites to host their own tournaments in-game, using the publically available Application Program Interface. There is also an Integrated Control API, which can be used to connect external equipment to the game to provide a vast array of different simulation options.

The physics engine, built specifically for golf, implements true skid and roll bounce physics, as well as accurate green speed measurements. Inside the game, users can select different swing mechanics, including full controller support; various time-of-day and weather options, including real-time integrated weather; customize their players and golf clubs; and select from multiple difficulty options to play the courses they've designed. There are more than 20 modes of play, including the innovative hazard golf and a fully customizable Method of Play Creator, containing over 50 events that can be used to create custom game play modes.

Jack Nicklaus Perfect Golf also gives players a completely customizable experience, bringing forth the expertise that Jack Nicklaus and world-leading Nicklaus Design have gleaned from designing nearly 400 golf courses worldwide over parts of six decades. Now, users can become expert golf course designers and architects too. Nicklaus Design Course Forge, the in-game course designer, is the same platform used internally by Nicklaus Design for its global projects. Not only can players dabble in golf course design--they can completely customize the surrounding landscape, selecting from a large array of camera angles, tracers, and graphics quality settings. The courses are also fully geo-referenced for future integration of real-world data and accurate sun angles, based on location.

Perfect Golf has a global reputation in 3-D modeling and simulation for entertainment uses. Perfect Golf's graphics have set the benchmark and have been used during worldwide broadcasts of the most notable tournaments on the PGA TOUR to digitally depict golf course ball flights, playing conditions, and design elements on some of the best-known golf courses in the world including The Presidents Cup 2015 at Jack Nicklaus Golf Club Korea, and will soon be featured in the return of golf to the 2016 Olympics.

Will it ever come out for the consoles onlooker?

No..

Trackman bought Perfect Parallel in late 2017.

Perfect Golf v1 hasn’t been meaningfully updated since January of 2018 and on the PC (non Trackman Sim users) it is essentially abandonware at this point.

Yes, they can do both, but they have to buy the DirectX 11 Grass Shader tool, which is $20. That sounds pretty reasonable to me.

Interesting development in the Perfect Golf world today... an announcement was made that in the Simulator section of Perfect Golf's forum that Trackman would be pulling the plug on Jack Nicklaus Perfect Golf sim passes one year from now. There was some uncertainty among JNPG PC players as to how this would affect them. Mike Jones, of Perfect Parallel, posted the following message to respond officially to that:

"This has nothing to do with PC game players it's just a sim pass thing. I'm really sorry for Zmax and all the guys at OGT who have done an amazing job over the years but if you think about it, it's a logical decision from Trackman and if anything IMO makes a new game more likely now for PC/Console."

Does this possibly enhance the chances of seeing a Perfect Golf 2 on the PC, and as Mike also hinted, console version as well?

Got a question here about Perfect Golf that maybe bluengold34_OS can answer: does Trackman own Perfect Parallel, or just the game, Jack Nicklaus Perfect Golf? I'm thinking it must be the latter, otherwise Mike Jones wouldn't have said in the official forum that the ending of the Simulator Pass for Perfect Golf with Trackman next August would make a PC/Console version of Perfect Golf 2 more likely.

I got an answer to my question about who owns who in the Perfect Golf forum. Trackman actually owns Perfect Parallel and Perfect Golf/Jack Nicklaus Perfect Golf. If there is to be a Perfect Golf 2, it will have to be with Trackman's consent. I understand that Andrew Jones and Mike Jones each work for Trackman now. As Mike said last week, the ending of the Simulator Pass next August for JNPB probably makes a Perfect Golf 2 for the PC and consoles more likely. I guess nobody would be in a better position than he to make a statement like that?

The ending of the Simulator Pass for JNPG courses on the Trackman simulator probably means that all Trackman courses will be proprietary, in-house courses going forward. I'm just trying to envision a company that's used to selling mega-buck simulators and commanding costly subscription fees, being willing to spend development dollars and resources on a small market golf game for the PC and console(s)?

Seems unlikely.....unless they want to incorporate the existing game into their simulators somehow to further 'game-ify' golf practice/simulators?

Just a note that Virtual Golf 2 was released today by Trackman.

VG2 is built on (basically is) what Perfect Golf 2.0 was going to be...before Trackman purchased Perfect Parallel and the Perfect Golf IP.

So, PG1 is officially the old and essentially abandoned game at this point (sadly).

I’ve remained hopeful there’d be some bone thrown to PG1 on PC users, and maybe one day there will be, but as of now it looks like the future of this software has moved on and it, unsurprisingly, is for Trackman hardware users only.

VG2 looks awesome, but sadly I don't think we'll ever see it made for a desktop PC. It is what a next-gen golf game should look like in 2019!

Yeah - I was holding out hope for some curveball of a quiet simultaneous release of PG2 in some form or another, but that was honestly dreaming..

This has gone as any good prognosticator would assume it would, unfortunately.

It's very bittersweet to see the evolution of the PG1 base and not be able to play it.

The fragments that are left of PP have assured the remaining players that the existing PG1 software and online play will continue to function in perpetuity as long as Steam supports it -- so that's good at least I guess..

Mac players already got the boot as something changed on Apple's end with their latest macOS Catalina and there's no staff or budget to do anything to make PG1 keep working for Mac users, which sucks for people who'd been playing it there. Those people are SOL on their purchased game and have to move on.

Ultimately, it's just a bit painful to know there's "the next gen" of the same game out there and you'll never get to play it.

Sucks.

I can't believe what a crappy situation sim oriented virtual golf is in given where it looked to be trending in 2014/2015.

It's done a complete nose dive and, to our knowledge publicly, there is nothing even being actively developed other than something like World Golf Tour.

And the absurdity of this situation is to think that a picture mosaic, pay to win game like World Golf Tour currently has over one million active subscribers I really do hope that Mike and Andrew are continuing to push for a PC version of Virtual Golf 2.

Somehow I doubt this number, but I do know that's where a lot of old TW arcade gamers are playing.

WGT says they have over 5,200,000 registered owners, of which it is estimated that >1,000,000 are active. Either number blows me away! I guess the face that it's "free" is the reason for this, but with less that 20% remaining active, it shows me that the 'pay to play' aspect of it turns over 80% of those how download it off.

I wonder if we can count the active PG1 users on our hands and toes?

Not quite... there were 22 players in the multiplayer lobby when I went in there Thursday night, of course some of them have probably been logged in since May, 2016!

I'll look you up there the next time I get on. I rarely play JNPG any more because I prefer the more responsive mo-capped golf animation in TGC 2019 to Hacker Harry of JNPG. It'll be next week before I can play JNPG again, but I'll definitely give you a shout when I do.

Here it is almost three years after the announced release date, and FINALLY we see the next incarnation of Perfect Golf, using NVIDIA's Turf Effects for 3-D rough and HDR graphics - Virtual Golf 2. The only problem is you have to have a Trackman 4 launch simulator to play it It really looks better than I imagined it would. Check out the first gameplay video I've seen of it in action. The guy is playing approach shots on the practice course:

Behind the scenes, the creators of Perfect Golf and Virtual Golf 2 are pushing for a PC version release, with possible console releases to follow. Not much to go on at this point, but it seams to be a shame to have course graphics that were created with Unity on a PC, playing before such a small, limited audience!
