Madden NFL 17 News Post

Damarious Randall, cornerback for the Green Bay Packers, posted this Madden NFL 17 screenshot, (which has recently been deleted) showing off some of the new presentation in the game this year.

It's obviously early in the cycle, so a lot of details won't be shown off. Either way, it's Madden NFL 17 news and we are going to post it.

It was around this time last year the Madden hype train started, as they gave the release date with plenty of details on the game released in May.

Equipment is one of the last things they add........they are not going to worry about it in early builds of the game.

Feels like that's been your opinion since like madden 12. At some point, I just gotta call madden what it is. A mediocre game that always needs another year or two to be great.

I have to agree with you here.

It's over for Madden... Someone put this poor game down already.

And that's your opinion.

You base this on what is most likely a pre-alpha leaked screen shot in debug mode. Cool.

Didn't know he couldn't have an opinion.

It's a shame the hate that these types of information releases bring out in some of you. Don't even give them a chance.

I'd rather find out now so that I can just put people on ignore sooner rather than later and save myself from reading a lot of vitriolic comments down the road when actual info comes out.

Let's redirect discussion back to the screenshot and the implications for Madden NFL 17; as opposed to indictments of the series in general, posters and ignore lists, or anything else, please and thank you.

Graphics are great, but Madden is the poster child that movement, animations and models are king. Everything in this shot looks so awkward and cringey that it doesn't matter if technically the graphics resembled real life. Just looks fake.

Yeah, and maybe it's just me, but it seems that player models in Madden cannot completely straighten out their legs.

If this is for primetime games, or playoff games, kool, if not then it's pretty wack. I just need some variety in presentation if they're going to do things like this. Definitely don't like the posing. Just keep it simple.

I think they should just build on what they did in 16. IMO trying to go beyond broadcast isn't Tiburon's strong point. Usually doesn't make sense when they go that route.

Everything I know tells me they will keep building onto the foundation they have built the last few years especially last year. As far as player movement and animations go, they are well aware of the issues there. Brian Murray seems to favor the beyond broadcast approach but hopefully if they go down that road, they will make it authentic and not too far out there to where it feels too much like an arcade video game.

This. In stills madden looks great but once they start animating the player models just looks so unnatural especially since they implemented the new engine, players limbs bend in weird ways, guys miraculously hold onto the ball with one arm behind their back while being tackled.

Not nearly as much as a few years ago, 16 definitely showed improvement in this area.

I think there's a real disconnect between EA and the Madden players, actually... more so the madden players and EA when it comes to presentation. I suppose this argument works either way though.

The way I see it, EA isn't trying to replicate ESPN, CBS, or FOX presentation. I mean, that's obvious. What they're doing is creating their own, as if they are actually broadcasting the game you're playing. Rather than trying to make it look like you're playing a game being broadcast on CBS.

So, of course it doesn't look like anything you'd see on Sunday, because EA doesn't broadcast football games on television.

Now, the pose in the screen itself. I'm not a big fan of it. It's an interesting way to show player introductions, and it takes out blank faces for players with out pics, and it takes out generic face pics for future draft picks, so that's a plus. I don't like the style of it, it kind of makes sense though. It's not like it's out of the realm of possibility for one of the NFL's network partners to do this though. Isn't it ESPN with their MNF package that has players posing like that when they show their lineup overlays? Sure, they aren't in full equipment, but they're live, they're sometimes of a player goofing around. Or maybe it's a college broadcast I'm thinking of... Either way, it's not like it's something we haven't seen.

I think EA's perspective on presentation is fine. I don't need my game to resemble a CBS or Fox, or ESPN broadcast. If it did... that's fine, but I don't need the network log's and such. I'm fine with it being an "EA Sports" broadcast, as long as it still somewhat resembles a network broadcast. It does really, it's just not exactly what we see on Sundays, and in my opinion, there's nothing wrong with that.

It's april. Release is 4 months away on this, I'm not going to go too crazy about the screenshot, I think it looks fine. I don't think we are going to see graphics quality increase dramatically at this point, they're already great. So it's no surprise that it looks good.

There's just not enough to look at in here and take away anything.

At what part during a game do teams do this? Sigh, here we go again. Another year , another toxic relationship with Madden. It might be time to break up after 20 years of marriage.

# 119 SageInfinite @ 04/25/16 11:25 AM
I definitely think the equipment is placeholder equipment. I'm not jumping the game on that, but I wouldn't be surprised if it was left untouched for another year.

Now when videos come out, that's usually when 95% of the time, that's what you're going to get on your console.

Way too early to jump the gun, but let's not act like people aren't basing their opinions on the game we've been getting for a decade.
