I would go out on a limb and venture to say that most of those complaints are from people who are either not very good at the game or play with assists on...

Yeah, have played PES forever, and I know I'm a good player, and this game is amazing. I haven't played a ton of singe player matches so far, maybe 10 or so, most my games have been in myClub recently against VS. Waiting for Konami to grow up and give us squad updates before starting a proper ML.

Matt, I watched a little of your feed last night i thought the defense looked outstanding from what i saw, playing tight to their mark and really limiting the space. The one time the Centre half jumps in front of an attacker with a slide tackle really stood out i just haven't seen that much commitment in the X1 demo at all.

I didn't pay much attention really to the set up you did as it was late . Did you do anything in particular?
I saw in another thread changing to few on attack and D but thought i saw you with it on medium.
Any conclusions on this?
I would normally have this game by now but bestbuy insists on only getting 1 copy in 4 stores around me. By the time i get it online or search more Fifa will be in and im afraid i may not even get it for a while if that's the case as Fifa is really good also.
It will be the first time ever i don't get both on release which is not right as they both are awesome from the demos for me.

Hey JimmyD - I am just tuned in this morning. I had some real issues with streaming earlier on there, it was a bit frustrating. Thankfully I started to figure that part out - then found out that my original tactic idea of (in/out numbers few/few) wasn't flying. Here is what I posted in the sim settings thread, and the video to go along with it:

FF: On
In Numbers: "Few"
Out Numbers: "Medium"

Defensive Line: HIGHEST (bar filled all the way)
Compactness: LOWEST (bar least filled all the way)

The defensive line does not get caught with balls over the top when the In Numbers are FEW, but they do when it's on Medium or higher. It's similar to PES 14 and FIFA 15 actually where the defensive line drops back so far, due to man marking, that it removes any chance of solidifying the top of the box, or even the 6-yard box. This is going to my "default" set up unless something better occurs. It's the simplest way to use as a base - and takes the least time to modify before each game.

The advantages of being on the PC is that there is a free-side select tool that I use in the video below, which allows me to switch to the CPU's team and adjust their tactics, without having to go into edit mode and go through that. Yay for PC

Problem is, this is very poor game design if you have to be good at the game and/or play with specific settings for the game to be good.

For example, I'll readily admit that I'm no expert at PES. But what, I have to get good at the game first before I can enjoy it?

And because I'm not very good at it, I can't handle playing with manual passing settings like everyone claims you gotta do to make the game play well. I suck at manual, and regardless I don't enjoy playing with manual passing to begin with, but that shouldn't be a requirement to begin with if the game is well balanced and properly designed.

In FIFA, or pretty much any other game out there, I can enjoy the game right out of the box, and then as I gain experience with it and improve, I can increase the difficulty and change settings to my preference, and continue to enjoy the game.

But what, PES is some type of special case where you must play with specific settings and be proficient at the game to enjoy it? And if you're not proficient, or you play with default settings, your opinions are invalid?

The beauty of pes controls is even on assisted controls all you have to do is LT and you have manual available, its the best of both worlds .

After 14 more offline games, and 4 online games, here are some updates to my opinion.

Far too many slide tackles. Whether they're too accurate or not, the CPU slides far too often

Game could still do with more responsive skill moves, but its better than last year

Passes are better this year for sure

Goalies are kind of weak but still better than last year

Fouls definitely need an update. In the first few games I was OK with it, but I've had too many games with no fouls ... Which isn't a huge problem due to the short nature of the games, but there have been too obvious fouls to overlook. The fouls that do happen definitely look better though.

One thing I don't see too much mention of, especially compared to how bad it has been, is the commentary is absolutely top notch. I love it, and even my buddy who hates the way pes looks walked down my stairs and said, is that pro evos commentary this year?! It sounds amazing! It does, the excitement heard and the more accurate contextual nature of it is so good.

This is the first time I've been able to have good online vs matches. They were smooth, and more importantly, were extremely fun. More fun than I have in fifas vs by a long shot. This was a huge surprise.

Be a legend is actually playable for me this year, and is also quite fun on the pitch.

I've played a handful of games at the 2nd hardest difficulty and the only complaints I have are that the goalies aren't great and there isn't enough fouls. Apart from that, the game is pretty damn good in my opinion , I just hope that they can tweak the gameplay

**** skill moves. The way they have become such a staple of the FIFA series is disgusting.

And the ones in PES are fine and doable but require more "skill" on the gamer's end, which is the way it should be.

I'm playing around with a test ML while I wait for the squad updates to start my proper ML, I've just been simming matches a lot and playing the odd game. Well I'm at the last two games of the season and I just heard the commentary talk about how no team has ever gone a whole season with a 100% away record and I could be about to make history tonight!

And of course I lost...

Was nice to hear them talking about it anyway (I didn't even realize the team had a 100% away record)

I hope there's a lot more of that in ML. I don't expect it to be as in depth as Fifa's CM mode, though. But it's finally a step in the right direction.

Played probably my best game of PES 2016 yesterday.

I was using Peru and playing "in" Cameroon. The more athletic African team dominated the possession game and were much more dangerous. They had one sitter after pick-pocketing my centerback at the top of the penalty area, but missed it.

Cameroon eventually scored and I did little in showing fight. I contemplated making changes at halftime to not have such a flat showing, but stuck to my guns and conceded off a corner kick played short and then crossed in five minutes into the second half. 2-0.

My team responded, though. Carrillo (who was on a red form arrow) set up a trio of goals to Guerrero (also on red form arrow) and I flipped the script completely with 10 minutes left. The third goal, a header, had me pretty excited.

I wanted to make a CM substitution to close out the game and did, but my only options were on blue/purple form arrows. Anyway, while trying to waste time, there was a play near midfield in the fifth minute of stoppage time where I stepped in wrong and knew it could prove costly. It did.

Cameroon scored on the last kick of the game, and it ended 3-3. My thrilling comeback was spoiled by one of their own.

Amazing game, especially during the moments when Cameroon players stepped on the ball and pulled it back and when I realized late that I had made a grave error. PES rocks.

Nice have you added in all of the national team kit?

Almost. I'm tackling 14-15 at a time. Each of those session takes me (because I'm super anal and change number colors, etc.) about a couple hours. Then I reward myself with a game against a team from each session I've done.

So far, I've done all of Asia, Africa, North America, and South America. All I'm missing is Europe's 29 teams, which I hope to finish by tomorrow.

Exactly. It's the reason I will never ever play FUT again. It's just a skill move **** show the entire game.

I have only played 4 games so far I think but it is in there for sure. I won my first game 3-1 and my second game they talked about how I started the season with the win or something along those lines. I was pleasantly surprised it was in there.

Also, I played my first game in the Champions League and they talked about how this was the game everyone wants to play in and how the long road to the final begins with the first game.

It is a nice addition for sure.

Have been on a gaming hiatus the last few years but downloaded the demo today on the 360 and was blown away by two of the best soccer games I'd ever played.

A couple questions:
1. Are there (non-graphical) limitations on the 360 version compared to the new consoles?
2. Is there the ability to save a game in the middle of a match? My gaming time is limited, but I like longer matches and would like to be able to save them and return to them when I could.

OK, after spending more time with games and a few cups (no ML until data update, whenever that is....) I have some little things that annoy me, I've had some good games so Im not complaining, BUT:

- The jump/skip animation of the AI, it seems it happens way too much, the least realistic animation if its done 7 times in one possession .

- I'm not a pro player that wins 10-0 on superstar, so for me, with my playing style, I've noticed that after scoring a goal, the AI will make some ridiculous plays to equalize it, (they will be impossible to tackle, all the balls go their way, etc). In short, I'm seeing some scripting from the AI. This wasn't bad in Exhibition, but during tournaments/cups it was terrible. Its usually a through ball that for some reason my defense is completely taken by surprise and leaves a gigantic hole for some reason that wouldnt have been there if I hadn't scored. This happens immediately after my goal.

- Anyway to defend the AI free kick? from outside the box it's always my keeper touching the ball but not enough to get it out from goal. AI goal 90% of the time

Those are some frustrations so far after playing it more, well on top of the usual ones (keepers, fouls). Its still enjoyable tho.

PS: maybe I've played too much, but I'm already tired of hearing the :" you can hear the collective sigh of relief, as they know they've come away with it" .......

I'm really liking the game. Once I finish updating the Premier and Sky Bet I think I'll try two ML. One where I play and one that I just manage.

I'm quite frustrated with the game and I'm probably going to shelve it till a patch. There are so many things that add up to the point the game is more frustrating than fun for me at the moment.

There worse offender is the scripting by the AI. I swear I don't feel in control half the time. Today in one game I had the CPU score on two straight crosses. It wouldn't have been a problem if it wasn't the ridiculous defending by my AI. My guys on both crosses were in front of their man and had it defended perfectly.....until all three of my defenders at the exact same time did this weird animation where they move upfield and then kinda of slide behind the man they are marking. They weren't even jockeying for position. My guys kinda side stepped and did this weird slide behind their man. After kindly giving the other team an uncontested header about 5 meters from the goal my keeper stayed glue to his line instead of cutting out the crosses and reacted only when both balls went past him.

Adding to this frustration is the CPU uncanny ability to win most 50/50's and when the game decides to go full ****** and have guys with low dribbling turn into the second coming of Maradona.

I'm usually OK with this PESisms like your defenders being braindead or general quirks that usually aid the AI and not you but feeling like I don't have control and the atrocious keepers I'm going to shelve it for a while.

# 240 dubcity @ 09/22/15 01:21 AM
Lol, I just decided to up the difficulty and got absolutely obliterated by the CPU on Superstar. Might have to upload one goal in particular, where the CPU scored after literally 3 passes after kickoff. I would have been annoyed if it hadn't been so exaggerated and ridiculous.
