Matt, I watched a little of your feed last night i thought the defense looked outstanding from what i saw, playing tight to their mark and really limiting the space. The one time the Centre half jumps in front of an attacker with a slide tackle really stood out i just haven't seen that much commitment in the X1 demo at all.

I didn't pay much attention really to the set up you did as it was late . Did you do anything in particular?
I saw in another thread changing to few on attack and D but thought i saw you with it on medium.
Any conclusions on this?
I would normally have this game by now but bestbuy insists on only getting 1 copy in 4 stores around me. By the time i get it online or search more Fifa will be in and im afraid i may not even get it for a while if that's the case as Fifa is really good also.
It will be the first time ever i don't get both on release which is not right as they both are awesome from the demos for me.

Hey JimmyD - I am just tuned in this morning. I had some real issues with streaming earlier on there, it was a bit frustrating. Thankfully I started to figure that part out - then found out that my original tactic idea of (in/out numbers few/few) wasn't flying. Here is what I posted in the sim settings thread, and the video to go along with it:

FF: On
In Numbers: "Few"
Out Numbers: "Medium"

Defensive Line: HIGHEST (bar filled all the way)
Compactness: LOWEST (bar least filled all the way)

The defensive line does not get caught with balls over the top when the In Numbers are FEW, but they do when it's on Medium or higher. It's similar to PES 14 and FIFA 15 actually where the defensive line drops back so far, due to man marking, that it removes any chance of solidifying the top of the box, or even the 6-yard box. This is going to my "default" set up unless something better occurs. It's the simplest way to use as a base - and takes the least time to modify before each game.

The advantages of being on the PC is that there is a free-side select tool that I use in the video below, which allows me to switch to the CPU's team and adjust their tactics, without having to go into edit mode and go through that. Yay for PC

Problem is, this is very poor game design if you have to be good at the game and/or play with specific settings for the game to be good.

For example, I'll readily admit that I'm no expert at PES. But what, I have to get good at the game first before I can enjoy it?

And because I'm not very good at it, I can't handle playing with manual passing settings like everyone claims you gotta do to make the game play well. I suck at manual, and regardless I don't enjoy playing with manual passing to begin with, but that shouldn't be a requirement to begin with if the game is well balanced and properly designed.

In FIFA, or pretty much any other game out there, I can enjoy the game right out of the box, and then as I gain experience with it and improve, I can increase the difficulty and change settings to my preference, and continue to enjoy the game.

But what, PES is some type of special case where you must play with specific settings and be proficient at the game to enjoy it? And if you're not proficient, or you play with default settings, your opinions are invalid?

The beauty of pes controls is even on assisted controls all you have to do is LT and you have manual available, its the best of both worlds .

Re: PES 2016 Available Today, Post Your Impressions

After 14 more offline games, and 4 online games, here are some updates to my opinion.

Far too many slide tackles. Whether they're too accurate or not, the CPU slides far too often

Game could still do with more responsive skill moves, but its better than last year

Passes are better this year for sure

Goalies are kind of weak but still better than last year

Fouls definitely need an update. In the first few games I was OK with it, but I've had too many games with no fouls ... Which isn't a huge problem due to the short nature of the games, but there have been too obvious fouls to overlook. The fouls that do happen definitely look better though.

One thing I don't see too much mention of, especially compared to how bad it has been, is the commentary is absolutely top notch. I love it, and even my buddy who hates the way pes looks walked down my stairs and said, is that pro evos commentary this year?! It sounds amazing! It does, the excitement heard and the more accurate contextual nature of it is so good.

This is the first time I've been able to have good online vs matches. They were smooth, and more importantly, were extremely fun. More fun than I have in fifas vs by a long shot. This was a huge surprise.

Be a legend is actually playable for me this year, and is also quite fun on the pitch.

I've played a handful of games at the 2nd hardest difficulty and the only complaints I have are that the goalies aren't great and there isn't enough fouls. Apart from that, the game is pretty damn good in my opinion , I just hope that they can tweak the gameplay

**** skill moves. The way they have become such a staple of the FIFA series is disgusting.

And the ones in PES are fine and doable but require more "skill" on the gamer's end, which is the way it should be.

Re: PES 2016 Available Today, Post Your Impressions

I'm playing around with a test ML while I wait for the squad updates to start my proper ML, I've just been simming matches a lot and playing the odd game. Well I'm at the last two games of the season and I just heard the commentary talk about how no team has ever gone a whole season with a 100% away record and I could be about to make history tonight!

And of course I lost...

Was nice to hear them talking about it anyway (I didn't even realize the team had a 100% away record)

I hope there's a lot more of that in ML. I don't expect it to be as in depth as Fifa's CM mode, though. But it's finally a step in the right direction.
