i will download this later
even with all the issue i'm reading
because at least EA put it out there
to be critiqued and tested by all...
if EA actually fixed the issues
repeatedly stated here i could
see this being real competition
(at least the start of it for fans).
bulky clothes, input delays, cheesing,
animation problems, post issues, etc.
if EA has a dedicated team work hard
this could become what Live fans love.

Demo just fully downloaded and I will give my impressions as I go.
  • Opening presentation is beautiful. I love the ESPN drop and walking out of tunnel sequence. Got me to tip off without much delay.
  • I've seen a very ugly jump pass from under the basket by Mozgov. Maybe it wouldn't have looked so bad if he didn't do a 180 to perform it. Was the smart play as I left a shooter in the corner but gathering the rebound, spotting the shooter and then making the pass would be a more realistic display.
  • On my first offensive possession, Waiters had the ball and I'm not sure if the AI did it on its own but Durant came to the ball for an open look that I missed.
  • The defensive rotation on a hard hedge PnR situation was iffy. Cleveland was in a 4-1. Kyrie had the ball on the right wing and ran a PnR with Mozgov. Lebron was on his right in the corner, Love was on the left wing and JR was in the left corner. On rotation, KD crashed Mozgov on the roll. That looked good but Waiters didn't step in the paint (from JR in the left corner) he was actually trying to run to the other side of the court to cover the now wide open Lebron James. Ibaka left Love and tried to split but eventually darted to JR in the corner and leaving Love for a wide open 3 point attempt. I have to look at OKC's PnR defense and rotations to see what they were trying to accomplish but from my novice view at the moment it looks jacked.
  • JR Smith attempted to play the passing lanes on a pass to Westbrook. He went after the ball (with the wrong hand) and when he tried to recover to Westbrook, I beat him baseline for a nice dunk. Though JR didn't make the smartest attempt, I love the intent and penalty for gambling in the passing lanes.
  • On the Westbrook dunk attempt, Mozgov went up and made the most laziest block attempt ever. He halfheartedly swung with both hands at two seperate times during the attempt. A simple "jump straight up" animation would be suffice.
  • Game speed is perfect. I love the walk up animations.
  • I drove with Westbrook and went into a euro step animation. I have no problem with the animation too much but with the bump during that move should leave him a bit more unbalanced.
  • Just picked Kyrie's pocket with Westbrook. I LOVE the fact that the ball was knocked into the backcourt and my defender could react to it the moment it happened. The steal also felt very fluid.
  • Lebron just dunked on me - felt very fluid. If that was a canned animation, it was the smoothest one ever. Felt natural.

There was a bunch more positives and negatives but overall I liked the game. If EA fixes some of these animations this game will be very good. It does a lot of things right and I think its headed in the right direction.

Figured out how to rebound....got 2 double doubles aback to back....

Nothing really basketball based like boxing out, I just have the timing for when it comes off the rim down pretty well...lol

Pro-Am is a lot of fun. Just give us some interior D and it would be golden...

I love when I have a CPU PG, they actually pace the game and use my picks

It'd be cool if EA could write some logic into the grading system that punishes PGs for not passing to open players....because the way some of the guys play....smh

It almost breaks my heart to say this for some reason, I really badly wanted this to be my online basketball game, but in its current state its barely playable.

There's alot of good going on in this game, the dev team has definitely put in the work, but all that good is pretty much entirely eliminated by a few gamekillers. First and foremost, the input lag online is awful. I had alot of hope for this game online because its EA and having played Clubs in both NHL and FIFA which were buttery smooth, I almost just assumed it'd be on point. It's not. The lag/delay with the inputs is near unplayable some games and at best, something you just have to work around. It ends up making playing Live Run alot of hoping and praying...hoping you guess right on defence as to where the guy youre defending is going and praying you factored in the lag properly on your jump shot release. It's really bad.

I would deal with it though, if it wasn't for what I think IS real gamekilling aspect....the layup/dunk animations. Unless you get mostly lucky, once a guy has a step on you, that's it. You may as well not even be there (his animation will bump or move you away) but even worse, help defence has next to no impact on the outcome of the guy's layup/dunk/shot. It's really quite awful and makes playing defense worse than frustrating.

This was going to be a day one buy for me because I just assumed EA's servers would be awesome and assumed the game would be enjoyable. The servers are passable at best and the game IS enjoyable...until anyone goes to the net. There is next to no physics involved and that's hard to take considering we were sold on real time physics from the get go of this reboot of the series.

I'll follow the threads and see if patches and updates fix these two issues. I want to want this game. Give me a reason, EA.

As someone who played live 10 run it was never this easy to score inside. I'm taking the bright route in saying it's because everyone defensive ratings is low..lol (obviously not the final build)

I'm loving the game so far I haven't played 2k since late June so something fresh is great for me. If you try comparing this to 2k you're doing it wrong. Overall as a basketball game it's pretty good def has some flaws though that hopefully can be patched out.

Probably played around 10-15 pro-am games who knows how long it would take to play 10 games without matchmaking with getnext instead!

- Meh. I don't want to piss on the game because it is clear that the dev team cares and put alot of effort into making a better game. It shows. It really does. It's a decent game of basketball. It's just when I play this game it feels like NBA Live 11 - or what that game should have been had they not switched directions. NBA LIve 10 is still thee pinacle of the series for me gampelay wise. There is just more work to do to catch up. But God Bless that dev team for making the effort.

ONLINE
-My Lord. I am not an online player [I'm old school] but I can NOT - I just can NOT stop playing ProAm. I never realized how much i HATED MyPark until just now. Not because of the gameplay or the knuckleheads i play with - but because of having to wait to play. I can turn on this game and within 2 minutes [at most] literally I am playing a game. And the games go by so quickly. So even if I am stuck with the And 1 jabronis who never pass the ball or some insufferable lag which makes the game choppy - the game is so quick it doesn't take away from the experience. BRAVO EA!!! BRAVO!!! I have played 35+ games in the day and a half I have had this demo. I haven't played that many games COMBINED of MyPark in the last 2 years.
You WON EA. I will buy this game (along with 2K )
I actually liked online gameplay better than 2k15s mypark. I can actually play defense in their mode whereas 2Ks park was just jerky to me. We can't judge 2k16 yet so ill hold judgement their but live looks good.

WTF or anyone who has played the patched game or knows for sure.....

Does the release patch make it impossible to hit shots unless wide open like 15?

If so I am not getting the game. If a little less likely to makeit than the demo that is fine. I just do not want it to have to be unbelievably open or a brick. The demo is fun because set shots off screens with late arriving d can be made. In 15 unless Carmelo or someone you had to have practically no one between you and the hoop to make a shot.

How are you guys able to get pro-am games so much? Maybe it's just because I try playing with friends. I definitely think they need to add an option to join public lobbies with your friends by default, like a squad system

Played 4 full games, here are my impressions:

Pros:
  • Presentation. Can't beat an authentic ESPN broadcast. Great graphic design on menu's as well. Something EA has always excelled at.
  • Jumpshot mechanics feel smooth and percentages play out realistically. Just cause Durant is open doesn't mean its going to go in every single time.
  • Players seem to have a sense of the lead. When the Cavs were up I noticed them slow it down to milk the lead, and reversely when I was up 9 with a minute left I noticed them pushing the ball up court so that they can score in a hurry. Not only that but the ball was in Kyrie and Jr Smith's hands while they searched for threes to close the gap.
  • Love the simplicity of executing handoffs, feels smooth as well.

Cons:
  • Player mugshots in the starting lineup look strange, don't know if it's because of the cyber faces or because of the way the lighting was cast on them. Because outside of that the players look great in the game during closeups. Bodies are on point too, not too thick or too muscular, etc.
  • Players sometimes go into layup animations and morph through defenders with established position.
  • Spacing is great when you're out on the perimeter but things can get congested once you start to drive. Your teammates get in your way sometimes.
  • The in-game commentary and half-time reports need smoother dialogue transition's. The voice blending seems a few years behind in this regard.

Overall: Fun experience, lots of positives. Live is moving in the right direction.

I'm loving Pro-AM. If they can finally fix their online lag issues and tune paint defense, it will be perfect.

Just wanted to say that this is an absolutely incredible demo in terms of what it gives you. I will play it a lot.

Unfortunately for me, as a user v cou player, the cpu late game AI bug will prevent me from buying the full game barring a miracle that fixes that three year old issue It is is the ultimate game killer.

But I do appreciate the depth of this demo. No one who buys the game should complain post purchse as it is very clear what you will be getting..

I enjoyed the pro-am for the most part, the EA servers are so much better than whatever trash 2k is hosting their games on, a night and day difference. There were a few games where the lag was nearly as bad as 2ks but most of them were pretty lag free and didn't notice much input lag.

If they could just fix the ball hoggers it would be a truly great experience. I wish I could just play with CPU and gain SP that way instead of having to suffer playing with twats who continuously take and miss contested shots or the other kind of bums that iso and score easily but never pass.

Oh and what's up with the game rarely rewarding pro-am points for playing good defense or setting good screens that lead to a bucket and other "good" teammate actions?

Played a few games of the OKC/CLE game while waiting for that terrible download and got into a couple games after that finally finished up.

Right off the bat I said it watching the videos and seeing it on my screen I say it again, it's a breath of fresh air seeing the activity on the court this time around as opposed to the standing around that was happening last year. Guys are setting screens, trying to get open, it's night and day from 15.

I didn't mess around with the sliders yet, so I'm playing defaults on everything for the time being. Shooting is a thousand times better for me than last year as I don't feel like it's a near pointless grind trying to score this year like last year felt. Helps the ego that Van Gundy isn't ripping me and the other team for how brutal our scoring is going either lol.

Love the arenas and atmosphere in the game. That was good last year though, so this is just a continuation of that. The play calling feature is great, think that's well done once you get the hang of doing it.

I've had fun playing the game and have had some competitive games in my time with it. Of course there is a lot of bad in here as well despite what the game does right.

The animations are still not good. It doesn't FEEL like footplanting is in the game. Guys seem like they just move around the court at lightning speed and the warping and forcefielding is still there. There's still a delay in certain movements like jumping to contest a shot or going for a rebound.

I was playing a game against the Clippers and ran into this little sequence.

Spoiler

Overall, had some frustrating fun with the game so far. It's still not worth 60 dollars and I'll more than likely be picking this one up for cheap again this year as an alternate bball game. I'm disappointed because we've reached the third year of yet another 3 year plan and we're still not where we're supposed to be for that third year.

Controls feel sluggish and also seems like there's lag when you press a button to steal, rebound, etc. The paint defense is nonexistent basically 75% of the time in my experience with the demo. The teleporting layups and dunks are saddening. When you want to go for a simple layup it makes you do a harder shot than you originally wanted to take. I wanna like this game because Pro Am is a really fun concept but its like the game mechanics are just not good.

# 277 BOSsTOwN @ 09/17/15 01:25 AM
If I was ea I would just release the pro am mode on arcade and just try to compete for that That mode has been fun.

Game is stiff and has weird animations

Playing more Tip Off now / 12 minute quarters and man, I'm not exaggerating when I say this is some of the worst defense I've seen in a while....I'm playing on superstar like I have the last 2 years and it's just gotten crazy...

Dudes are taking off from the top of the free throw circle with euros and scoring in the lane.....

I try to wait a week before I touch any sliders but I may have to do that a bit early because this is crazy....

I couldn't take a quarter of it. Adjusted sliders mid game and it made a big difference. Will still have unstoppable stuff but the physicality of the paint was increased big time.
