I can't remember the last time I was this hyped for a sports game (maybe NFL 2k5 or MVP 2005). This is probably the wrong place to make this type of comment, but for me sports games are in general a tier below other types of video games such as RPG, RTS, FPS, etc. Games like Mass Effect and Halo have always gotten me much more excited than a sports game.

I think this 2k game may bridge the gap like few other sports games have. The biggest reason is I have Madden 16 and am actually enjoying the game quite a bit even with its' bugs. I would think I'd be more excited to play it, but after every Madden session I've had all I can think is, "That was fun, but man I can't wait for 2k." or "This should hold me over until 2k."

We obviously haven't seen the finished product or even played a game, but I just want to say thank you to the entire NBA 2k team. It sure looks like you brought it this year.

This is what I'm waiting for....need to see the whole package. Fluid animations, different player body types, the crowds...hopefully with sound and no music overlaying the atmosphere..

And yes, the court reflections were much too bright in 2K14. There's no disagree or not about it. They objectively just are, but judging by the latest video, I would like to see them turn up the reflections a bit more, especially at low angles (fresnel). We're getting so close.

There's also one more thing that needs to be turned up to sell the illusion of arena lighting. The under light caused by the arena floor itself. There's likely a bit of it in 2K, but you can see how consistently the surfaces pointing down and facing the floor are brightened in photos and videos from nearly any camera angle.

I would think this could be implemented as a simple ambient diffuse environment map or a reflectance map with mip mapped roughness levels. I bet one already exists so maybe it just needs adjusting, and the engine looks like it already has realtime ambient occlusion, so the map just needs to be multiplied by that so you don't get weird lighting in armpit cracks and such. If that was implemented or adjusted, it would add a subtle but powerful effect of feeling like the players are actually in the space of an arena with hardwood floors and arena lighting.

Yeah I thought 2K14 over glossed and the paint looked dominated by the lights. 2K15 went the other way and until we see broadcast cam, we don't know about this IMO.

But they now have paint scuffs everywhere from this trailer and it looks INSANE! Did they scan courts aswell now?

The paints being TOO perfectly clean in 2K15 always got a second glance from me..... no more in 2K16.

GLORY!

I guess i'll be the one to say that we basically just saw 90% animations folks. How are you even excited?

It saddens me that some will come up with some fugazy opinion hinting towards a dislike for the best sports game on the market. where were your fathers? haha!!!!

I guess I'll be the one to say it wasn't 90%. I didn't do the math either, but my guess is a lot safer.

Also, if done right (which 2k does), animations can be a really good thing. Especially in sports games. I feel more out of control in a game like live with fewer animations. At least with some animations implemented I can perform the moves and tasks I am trying to.

Well it IS an hype trailer. What did you want them to do, show us someone dribbling in place for 5 seconds in the middle of it?

One thing I will say, in 2K15 when I bring the ball up I felt the animations took over at times. Felt clumsy (for lack of a better word). This is just when bringing the ball up the court I mean..... I just got reminded of this by Mauer's post and when I saw the PGs bringing the ball up in this trailer....

I am hoping the walk up, jog up or run up are cleaner and tighter this year. Hard to say obviously from this trailer..... but we'll see.

I was going to hold out on getting another NBA2k game until a legitimate halftime show was implemented. I skipped NBA2k15 because of this. I am still waiting for an extraordinary halftime show including a post game show. Please build upon the existing pre-game show.

However, NBA2k16 looks to be a worthy purchase. Digital or Physical? That is the question.

Trailer is bloody fantastic ... Just Winning!

1. Loving the subtle facial expressions, expressive emotions.
2. Wasn't too fond of Hardens' jumpshot having a hitch.
3. Improved player models really do make a difference.
4. Players in motion do the players justice more so than screenshots.
5. That Lebron James sweaty arm (skin tone, lighting and everything) is absolutely bloody fantastic.
6. Anthony Davis legs, especially ankle area, looks to still require some slimming effect and possibly lengthening of the entire leg.
7. I'm not going to list out every little detail in the trailer. There's too much good stuff there to list.

In all honesty, for whatever reason, Melo simply has a generic looking face, almost a create a player type of face ... in real life and in the virtual world.
The other game threw out a scanned Melo which I thought look mighty generic -- I was like "who was that?" I googled the real Melo, and low and behold, Melo simply looks extra generic .

Can everyone please root for Carmello Anthony to have a monster, break out year to the point where he becomes the cover athlete for NBA2k17?

Maybe then, 2k will have an incentive to give Melo a more realistic face even if Melo naturally has a fairly generic face and all.

Honestly, no trailer needed, Already Purchased. 2k always brings it. I'm glad they adjusted the ratings, And if they adjusted the contact from being ridiculous (people just jump into your player online) this will be another great title.

Nice trailer! I'm really hoping 2K has improved the looks of the classic players also and a more in depth halftime show, like they use to have, then 2K16 will be a must by for me.

I agree. The trailer was nice but what this tells us about the actual gameplay is very little. I'll be hype when they prove that the crazy amount of cheese in this game is gone, when they stop putting a handicap on the person playing defense and when the show the ProAM isn't the zig zagging 3pt contest Rec was.

Melo's scan was good in 2K15 he had something going on with his eyelashes though

I don't think he was scanned 2k16 though he looks different not the same as 2K15. When you think about Melo probably didn't get scanned because he was hurt

NBA2k15 Melo looks good, face wise much better than what's offer in the Winning trailer. Why couldn't 2k simply have kept NBA2k15 Melo for NBA2k16?

NBA2k16's Melo looks as if someone tried to recreate Melo using graphic art tools.
NBA2k15's Melo as you put it, Melo actually got scanned.

Unfortunately I did skip NBA2k15. I truly did. Yep, my signature still says I'm playing NBA2k14. I am patiently waiting for the NBA2k16 presentation blog. We'll see how that goes, but as it stands right this very minute, I am 99% leaning towards buying NBA2k16.

I loved what I saw of the NBA2k15 pregame show. I'm hoping they'd expand that portion as well.

Proper player models are very important in bringing realism to the virtual sports world. NBA2k16 seems to have stepped their game up in this department. Some work could still be done to improved the models. As it stands right now, I'm in on NBA2k16.

Does anyone agree that 2k needs to just turn down the saturation on skin tones to make it look more real?

I can see how people would rock with this, but I can't get behind the design of this game.

They advertise body scans but everyone still looks like linebackers to me with weird *** proportions. Feet and hands are ginormous and it looks like everyone took a bath in baby oil before stepping out on the court.

FWIW, Davis looked better in 2k15 than he does here.

Still waiting to get my hands on gameplay but from the looks of the video, it still appears clunky and methodical. And that Harden jumpshot was UGLY.
