NBA 2K16 News Post

2K has just revealed the first NBA 2K16 digital short, titled Stephen Curry: Beyond the Shadows. The video showcases some of the first looks at NBA 2K16 gameplay.

The video chronicles the inspiring history of NBA superstar and cover athlete Steph Curry’s rise to dominance. Narrated by Spike Lee, the montage of gameplay and true life footage showcases Curry’s journey from being drafting by the Golden State Warriors to winning the 2014-15 NBA Championship.

This video is the first in a three part series focusing on the life story of NBA 2K16’s cover athletes, complementing this year’s #BeTheStory MyCAREER narrative.

We snipped out all of the NBA 2K16 footage from the video here, if you want to take a look.

NBA 2K16 will be available for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3, Xbox One, Xbox 360 and PC on September 29. If you pre-order at participating North American retail and online vendors, you get it on September 25, along with in-game bonuses.

Just checked....its the same...one guy on his knee while the cameraman shoots the crowd....looks like 2k16 will still lack cameramen...

Now to hope they fixed the sound effects of the rim.
I thought so too. When he makes the shot, the net seemed to have more weight than in previous years.

I think there still some surprises to be mentioned. Like WHO IS GONNA REPLACE commentary instead of STEVE KERR? Reggie Miller? Chris Webber?
Kenny Smith? Or like someone said earlier the whole TNT crew

This was ok, I thought Curry looked and moved pretty well. Really hope the lighting is a bit better...what I took mostly from this was the HS and college highlights. I like seeing screenshots and trailers of the game I mean it has looked and played pretty damn good overall for awhile so don't think that will change, I'm really looking forward to most is some detail on how HS and college will work.

Yeah good catch! They actually added the cameramen on the sidelines. I always wondered why those spots were so empty even on last gen.

Not much to see unfortunately (partially due to the lighting *zing*). Cool signature lean and celebration but it looks like they made steph jump higher on his shot to drag it out.

Nope

Granpa shorts still present, sorry to see

I'm not saying they're not going to make their money, but if they don't honestly believe that this year has tainted their image, a lot of people here would think they're crazy.

We haven't seen 30 seconds of this game yet and half this site pre-ordered months ago. I get it. We're bball heads. But they REALLY gotta show ME something in order to sell me on 16.

15 plays like absolute hot garbage after patch 4 but the competition is inferior so I'm actually re-installing right now after deleting it 2 days ago.

Just assuming that people aren't going to get tired of eating the same thing every day without changing the menu is not a good way to run a restaurant.
This is why in this industry... There must be substantial/threatening competition. I mean real deal contender.

Back to the gameplay footage. That is a Curry form finally right not sure about speed but the actual form is right down to how his head is turns before release. I wonder if Steph motion captured multiple follow through after the shot. Really like the shot though

1. Heavy contested he almost always slides to the side almost falling to avoid contact. Really hard to really contest him off the live dribble

2. Very rarely he turns and goes up court when he know his shot is money as soon as he releases it.

What do you mean by 'it works'? People enjoy 2K, hence the sales. I don't think them delaying footage till a couple of weeks before helps them in anyway whatsoever.

This video isn't impressive. The way 2k/take2 is marketing their games isn't impressive. It's actually really annoying. All we know is we have matchmaking and we can create jerseys and arenas for online play. Which isn't new stuff because they had this last gen lol...

This is getting out of control. 2k is going backwards from their $20 guerrilla marketing strategy. Now they're just like "eh...what else are they gonna buy"

Why can't they show us gameplay? No matter if it's an early build. Why can't they show us CAP? Why can't they show us something more than screenshots and trash trailers? Lol I'm going a little overboard but for the last 4 years they have literally not released ANY information until WEEKS before the game comes out.

No other games do that. Not even Madden and it's the only Football game to buy. 2K is getting pretty high on themselves.

Probably because it's gonna be the same game as 15 with new controls (every year) and a slight graphic tweak (body scans) but they didn't scan every player so some guys are gonna look wacky compared to guys with scans smh...

Who even asked for body scans? Can we get more CAP options?
Are the clothes for myPark gonna be the exact same again? Some of this stuff is just lazy tbh. Super lazy.

I don't know how some of you are making conclusions off a grand total of 5 seconds of gameplay. Things like "still no defense", "net physics unchanged/changed", players look the same, etc.

Just because we got a little gameplay doesn't mean we need to over analyze it for any little evidence that something is changed or unchanged. I'm not saying anyone is wrong or right but with this tiny bit of footage (from a build that could be any where from a day old to weeks old) there is no way to for us to make definitive conclusions based on what we see. Yet I'm sure there will be people rewatching these 5 seconds for hours to report on every little thing they notice.

I'd rather 2k not release anything than to release this video because fans are just going to focus on the gameplay and not the fact that this is essentially a commercial for the Spike Lee oriented My Player mode.

I've been a NBA 2k fan since the first NBA 2k on the Dreamcast. But I have to say they're marketing plan seems to get worse every year at least from the point of me being a consumer.
I don't know of any AAA game or indie game for that matter that shows so little of their gameplay so close to release. I mean even 2k's Mafia 3 and WWE 2k 16 have more footage, screenshots and info released at this point in time and both of those games are coming out later than NBA 2K.

What makes it worse is that they're asking for preorders 3 months out before any real footage or features are announced. I Preordered the game on Greenman gaming and due to the lack of footage the official video link for footage is from NBA Live 16 not NBA 2K 16. Even retailers trying to get a hold of anything.

In my opinion 2k's marketing team has gotten to be too comfortable and complacent and it seems like they're just assuming 2k fans and basketball fans will loyally buy the newest game with little effort on their part. This is why competition is a great thing and I am glad that NBA Live is improving yearly because it will put pressure on 2K to change up their marketing strategies in the future.

They did NOT used to be the company they are today.

They gave us gameplay 2-3 months before it came out as of 12, 13, AND 14. They weren't full builds, but we had information at least about GAMEPLAY.

This year, and most of last year leading into 15 was very hush hush. I can see why for 15. The leap from 14 to 15 was probably the LEAST differentiated between previous release I've EVER seen. And the funny thing is, 15 PLAYED BETTER OUT OF THE BOX THAN IT DOES RIGHT NOW. That's horrible to think about.
Killing your own credibility here man. We just gonna sit here and pretend like we didn't find out anything about 14 until pretty much exactly ONE MONTH prior to release with that big 2K press event for the next gen release? I know I'm not the only one that remembers that. Especially since we had OS represented at the event. I wanna say aholbert was live updating us with details as they were covered there?

Why can't y'all be more patient? There are 6 WEEKS before the game comes out, and I guarantee that nearly everything you want to see will be shown before the end of August.
