It's not incredibly difficult but there's two ways to make it more difficult and realistic. Move the aim marker to the exact yardage the hole is away and now you have to adjust your swing power to account for roll out or spin back. Or move it 50, 100, or more yards away and do the same thing, similar to links golf (if 22 yds from pin move max distance to 50 and calculate swing power) Keep in mind I play 3-click.

Two things are making this game very unpleasant, everything else is great.

1) putting, oh dear god, worst putting mechanic for any game. Period.

2) the celebration or frustration animations.. It's about to the point of just looking completly silly.

When you set up your shot for some reason its already set up to dial a distance for you (Lame). All you have to do (PS4) is hit square and it maxes out the distance for the club you have. Now from there you can change type of shot to what you want or loft or deloft the club. Now you actually have to think about your shot and how hard to hit it on the meter. I use the same method for putting and pitching. Chipping since there's different roll outs depending upon the lie I will actually dial a distance and it's still hard to place it close.

....

Preach it

makes the game much more realistic for me.

Its hard to dial it in when you move the marker to full but it is more realistic imo. I like trying to get that 3/4 shot (or reduce swing speed) to get that in between custom shot. yes I don't score as low but it's a good challenge and let's of recovery opportunities

I'll test that today! Wish we could set it to permanent. Makes sense what he said remembering the gp from older titles. I found this custom setting kinda weird yesterday too and was asking my friend about it. Now calbearlover came up with this explanation! Thank you man!!

Absolutely focus is elsewhere, when I say the word 'focus' it also equates to budget. It does not take a genius to work out that this game has been built off a budget extremely small in comparison to the two games I mentioned and probably in comparison to previous TW games. Just look at the official golfers they have? Pat Rodgers is one of 13? Compare that to Fifa rights and licencing.
Its because of this I just cannot see them spending significant money on DLC ie not getting the Augusta rights prior to release. That there shows there ambition for the game. Just my opinion but without any announcements as to what they will be releasing and when its to be released. I just do not see there being lots of significant DLC (courses) in the near future.
I do not want to ruin the fun for anybody enjoying this game, it's great that you do, and on top of that I hope I am proven very wrong but sadly I do not see that being the case.
You DO realize that this game is no longer a yearly release title? You DO realize that RM has nowhere near the budget or resources that Madden/FIFA/BF have, right? However, none of that is relative to RM and it is a new business model for the PGA TOUR game. Surely they had a smaller budget for this game versus TW14 which was the most expensive PGA TOUR game ever released in terms of how much EA invested ion the licensing for that game. That doesn't mean they don't have a good plan to support and continue to develop RM moving forward.

I do agree that they do need to start announcing their plans moving forward sooner than later though.

Anyway A few house rules and its a very rewarding golf game so far. Here is to hoping EA does actually support this game with updates, patches, and much more DLC.
Exactly what I am doing and it is challenging. Also turned of green grids completely last night and scoring is even more realistic so far. Of course that was on Bay Hill. I might not feel that way on Troon or other courses that have more slope in their greens....

Lastly, I am going to experiment this weekend on running my putting cursor to the direction I want it, then running it all the way off the green to see if I can dial in any sort of distance feel with the putter.....

Yeah I am fully aware that this is not a yearly release, I said previously that my estimate for significant DLC (courses) would be November time, after the first couple of months of Madden/ Fifa being released.
However if sales are as bad as I presume they are for this game (I have no stats but just going on general consensus and feedback). Then I imagine the DLC will be even more limited and sparse and could just fizzle out unfortunately as this game get forgotten about by anybody other than the die hard supporters.
It's a tough situation as you want to buy the game to support the release, however if like myself you would be very reliant on more courses and the alternate shot/ 4 ball, it's difficult to justify the purchase as the game stands.
That said if EA were to announce what/ when the DLC will be released then I would buy it and I think many others would too.
The lack of communication on there part is very poor in my opinion, as if you just visit there twitter page you see hundreds of people asking the same questions and having the same complaints. Yet not one response regarding them.

Not really, at least not with the analog swing but as Calbearlover pointed out you can still do that using 3 click mode. I've been told that you can but it's so much easier to just "set it and swing" what's the point? It's all about timing now.

I'm with you though, I like the old trying to nail 70% system better but I've whined about that enough already so I'll spare everyone and just shut up, just wanted to help answer your question.

I see the DLC plans a bit different. We all know how EA is and this is a good chance for them to get a lot more money out of this game...

Download pack 1 - (4-5 courses with new equipment)
Download pack 2 - (another 4-5 course and new equipment)
Download pack 3 - where the ladies at... LPGA players are now downloadable
Download pack 4 - the legends pack...
Download pack 5 - 5 tour pros for DLC
Download pack 6 - another 5 tour pros for DLC
Download pack 7 - Augusta pack including the par 3 course
Download pack 8 - weather pack

watch!!!

You had me up until 7. I have a pretty good feeling that Augusta isn't going to be in this game. If EA had the license for Augusta why would they hold back the course and give it to fans when the game came out? Or not show any footage of the course in the game.

Where did he suggest they have the license?

I also never said they had the license, I said, IF they had...

You would need the license for Augusta in order for it to be in the game, right? Especially EA I don't think they take a chance and put in an Augusta looking course and name it something like Atlanta CC or something like that.

They don't need the license commercially until next Spring before the Masters. But of it is going to be in the game, they need to have it now and be rebuilding the course with the new engine.....

As has been posted to you previously, because they don't have the license now doesn't mean they can't purchase it in the future being that the full game isn't being released every year.

If you want to say you don't think they will buy it then fine, but you keep using the rhetoric of "If they had the license Augusta would already be in the game."

Yea I don't think they would buy for this years game. Because I can't see EA putting in a big, well known course like that as DLC. When was the last time we had a course like a St. Andrews or Augusta put into the game as a DLC? A course that a person who doesn't really follow golf would know about. And by doesn't really follow I am thinking of someone who watches the majors and a couple tournaments here and there.

Ignoring the hiatus due to the console switch when was the last time this game was not an annually released game?

Yea I don't think it has. But I was just asking if EA has ever left out a big name course and then put it in as a DLC. Because I can't see EA leaving a big name course like Augusta or St. Andrew's to be a DLC course. And if they done it before I will gladly agree that this could happen.

Completely missed my point.

No, major courses have not traditionally gone in as DLC. But we've also never had a semi annual release and heck we don't even know when the next game will be released. Everyone is assuming 2 years but it might be 3 or even 4.

Point is we are dealing with a situation with no precedence so we can't compare it to anything EA has or hasn't done in the past.

What I'm doing now for putting is this. 7 feet or closer dial a distance. 8-11 feet I push the aim marker to 15 feet. 12-20 ft I push it back to 25 feet. 21-50 feet I push it to 75 feet. Anything over that I push it to 100 ft.

This adds another level to putting. Takes about a half a round to get used to it but makes the putting very rewarding when you sink one or lag one close.

Well said. Hope they do put in Augusta at a later point. I would gladly pay $10 for it. And they did say after they announced that it wasn't going to be in the game they were looking at maybe be dlc. I'm assuming that was just pr bs but hoping for the best.
