Now that brings back memories of an old Papyrus racing sim that I know blueandgold, RunN and several others on this board played. I love the freedom that's given but at the same time yeah, the starts can turn into a real mess. Back when I played that I had to figure that if I survived the inevitable turn 1 wreck I'd stand a decent chance of winning the race.

I guess I'll ask - that game was Nascar Racing 2002/2003 Season, and for any of you guys that played it, does this bring back memories of that game?

The super cars are ridiciously tough to control out of the box but with some tweaks they get easier. Definitely recommend starting with more street cars and letting the game come to you with the controls. A very deep game with tons of options. If you don't like something in the game, almost a guarantee you can change it. A brilliant racing game, awesome courses, small but effective list of cars and a must own for racing fans. Can't wait for the Oval DLC pack as well.

Tracks look gorgeous as do the cars both inside and out. Physics are impressive and cars handle well (and I haven't even toyed with the tuning options yet!). Customization in terms of settings and such is phenomenal. Being able to fine tune your sensitivities for all aspects of your wheel and/or gamepad is a huge plus. I've been using the setup LingeringRegime posted for the gamepad (I've tweaked a few settings to my personal preference). Gives just the right amount of feel without making everything to twitchy or arcadelike.

Loving the helmet cam as well. Only camera I use. I adjusted the apex look setting to 80. Really like that feature.

I've yet to dive into career mode or any other mode aside from the Free Practice and Time Trial sections.

I just had my best run out of the couple hours I've been playing with the McLaren P1 on Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya GP. I'm running my game with all possible assists turned off, real tire and fuel usage and manual transmission. I've always been an aggressive racer hence my really late braking. I still need to work on improving my lines and downshifts but thought I'd share this run nonetheless.

And yes, that's me deliberately blowing my engine at the end lmao.

Very nice run. Took those turns very well. You inspired me to keep grinding with manual transmission.

Helmet cam for me too. Project Morpheus is going to be so sick with this.

Oh and this is the type of game that you have to be 100% focused on while playing. If you have distractions going at your home its damn near impossible to focus.

This happened to me as well. I gave it an hour and knew something wasn't right. Delete the game from you system and reinstall it. My problem may have been I put it to rest mode when it installed and patch downloaded. Everything was there 2nd try.

Say what? I haven't read much but some oval racing would be a blast.

Your right on the super cars, anything that pushes a lot of power to the wheels is tough out of corners. If you throttle too quickly your likely to break loose.

I popped the game in last night and man, it's a entirely new world from playing Gran Turismo, Forza, and DriveClub.. I played the first race while the install is going and I put it on 5 laps and the AI at 70%(didn't feel comfortable with at pro my first race). But ended up winning that race. I've been waiting on this game forever and it's in my hands. I think I'm gonna buy all the dlc for this.. I just have too..

That's where I got these from.

How have they been working for you so far?

Anybody have any camera view settings that seemed to make things look better and easier to drive? Not sure how I am feeling about the Apex lock with helmet cam, I feel like the car is turning before I steer. Also, what exactly do the FOV speed sensitivity settings do?

Good looking out. You mind posting these settings in the settings thread too? It be nice that we could have them over there too so they won't get buried in this thread.

Do those settings work well for controller users?

Recorded some footage of a Quick Race I did yesterday with the BMW E30 M3 on Cadwell Park. Had to restart the race like 5 times from not being able to stay on the track. Had to turn on ABS and the racing line in order to learn the game. Kept all other assists off though.

The game is very tough to learn, but holy crap is it ever satisfying doing a flawless full lap on Spa or the Ring. I own a Lancer Ralliart and the Evo in the game Mimics the same engine sound as in real life; engine sounds are amazing.

Haven't even tried running 30+ cars in the rain on the Ring yet... this game is amazing.

I am not into driving games at all...last played one about ten years or more ago.

But I got this and am really enjoying it.

I have hardly even bothered with the racing part of it yet. I just like to pick one of the city tracks like California and just basically go for a drive. Just me, no other cars. For whatever reason, I actually find it really relaxing. After work...wife and son asleep...just boot this up for a while and drive around.

Really, really like the rain effects and weather sounds.

My PC is just a couple of months old and I can run the game on max visuals without any problems. Looks amazing.
