MLB 15 The Show News Post

The MLB 15 The Show gameplay stream is starting in a few minutes. You can click the "Spoiler Show" button below to watch it here at OS, or open a new browser and watch it. For those of you that miss out, we'll update this post with the archive when it is available on Twitch.

Some bullet points (Thanks jyoung!)

Graphics
  • Dynamic shadows in each stadium that will change over the course of the season
  • Colors will also change based on the amount of sun exposure
  • Grass and dirt colors are more accurate for each stadium
  • There are way more skin tones (they used to only have 13), which means you'll get much more realistic skin on dark-toned players
Gameplay
  • Directional hitting lets you influence where the ball will go, even in "timing only" mode
  • Dynamic pitch breaks make each pitch type easier to recognize and closer to how the ball acts in real life
  • Quick counts will start you in the middle of an at-bat more frequently. Pitchers will always start on a 1-1 count
  • Manual cutoffs are triggered by the L1 button and will help keep singles with a runner in scoring position from turning into cheap doubles
  • Outfielders have more curved, indirect routes, and will no longer just take straight paths to the ball. This should help reduce the number of undeserved doubles and triples
  • Infielders will follow the ball better and cover bases more realistically
  • There were no changes to umpires
  • The new MLB challenge system is in place for close plays at bases
  • Lots of new catching, tagging, and throwing animations were captured; they are unique to each base
  • Baserunners will slow up now and dynamically change their run speed based on where the ball is hit
  • There is more of a separation this year between fast and and slow runners
  • Expect less warping and no more sudden, unrealistic speed boosts in all fielding animations
  • You can use analog swings with timing hitting now
  • Meter pitching is more sensitive and has more risk/reward. Missing your mark has more of a penalty, hitting your mark has more of a benefit
  • Fielding and throwing sliders are now separated into different slider categories for infield/outfield
Next week: There will be a video blog for licensed equipment and the universal rewards system.
In the future: More twitch broadcasts are coming. A "presentation" stream will be next.

The fact sheet looks good and I'm looking forward to playing it, but the the thing that drives me crazy and puts a damper on it for me and makes me stop playing it after 1 month or 2 is the weather. Every year since 07 the weather temps have been way off, every night game is cold and forces the players to wear long sleeves. I play as the Mets and live in NJ it is not 50 to 60 degrees at night in June and July. So the time spent at the beginning editing the players with arm sleeves and and bands does not show during these games. Hopefully this is finally fixed.

To touch on this.......I think this is happening because SCEA uses the average day/night temps......but I've been doing some research on weather underground and looking at the 7PM starts compared to the nighttime avg....it is off.
If anyone has a specific city they feel is way off...and would like to document this by checking the game time start temp and sending me the info...I will get it to SCEA and hopefully they can check on this.
I say this...because I know from experience...just saying...."it's not right" and actually giving data to show..."it's not right"...means a big difference in getting them to look and and possibly change things.

I did N.Y. by checking 4 days of each month and compiling the data....I've just been really busy to go through more right now...and time is tight(maybe even too late...) for them to look at this for '15.

One thing I hope guys take from this....is how making the game is a PROCESS....and ONGOING process. The dev team is extremely passionate about getting this game as real as possible and keeping it fun. They are always looking on how to improve every and any aspect and I think listening to these guys in this stream.....as little as it is ....it shows.

That's unfortunate if it's not fixed and they still auto wear sleeves, might have to seriously question to get this game or not since for me it makes this game get stale quick. I wouldn't mind the temps but it's the fact that they make the players wear long sleeves and a lot of players don't do that. Just sucks with everything else getting realistic that this keeps getting looked over when it's something so clear to see during games.

You cant base graphic improvements from a stream.

You dudes are nuts if you think this game looks the same. Are you missing out on how it actually looks like a real game of baseball now? They may not have bumped the polycounts on the players or something, but god help me, that ain't all that matters.

I hope the guys who were watching and disliking what they saw so far read the bottom right hand corner where it said - Work in Progress! They still have time to work out the kinks.

So, we shouldn't see you around here complaining again until next year correct? You aren't buying the game, so you really don't bring much of anything to the table.

So you'll be sending the info to Knight as he suggested then I take it?

I just scrolled quickly through the thread and didn't read all of it, so maybe it is an old info but now you can challenge a play like you can do in real life. I think this is a very cool addition to the game.

How do you pull it up on twitch

There's been literally no information about RTTS, unless i forgot something, or completely missed it.

Body types desperately need fixing still. Players still warp a bit coming out of the box. The jerseys were completely untouched, would have loved some cloth physics. The dirt around home plate looks kinda bad, almost cartoony still, like there are little brown rocks scattered around the batter's box. And can they please get rid of, or change the "right hand holding the helmet as they jog off the field after being thrown out at 1st" animation? It bugs me to no end seeing it around 20 times a game.

The new skin tones and dynamic shadows will go a long way towards making the game look great when the other issues are eliminated. The licensed gloves will make a bigger impact than I anticipated, that A-2000 looked really nice on Puig. Nice to see the Wrigley renovations will be there. The directional timing hitting is a god-send for me. Hearing that the CPU fielders won't cut-off all my gappers brings hope that they won't know exactly how a ball will carom off a wall like magic.

Majority of the time outfielders know how a ball will come off the wall. Especially if its their home park.

Anyone else notice the arm sleeves look more like fabric this year compared to looking painted on in last years game.

Authenic equipment looks very nice as well!!

I've never seen an MLB outfielder set up 10 feet to the left or right of the wall well before they even knew where it would impact the wall, or with how much force. The CPU always knew, home or away, exactly where to set up the outfielder way too early and way too perfectly. If Puig can make a bad read in MLB 15 on the flight path and take a step in before retreating, he should make a slightly not-perfect read on how the ball will come off the wall. All CPU outfielders are too automatic as it is, regardless on any fielding rating.

But isn't that what they're striving for with the bad reads off the bat, variable balls and strikes, and the new challenge system? And even to a lesser extent the dynamic pitch breaks and ball physics?
