NBA 2K15 News Post

It looks like 2K Sports will have a face scanning solution similar to EA's Game Face technology. Users will be able to scan their face into the game with their Xbox One and PlayStation 4 consoles.

Users can play NBA 2K15 with a player face that looks just like them. Check out the video at KTVU.

UPDATE: Ronnie has chimed in on Twitter. Looks like we'll see more soon.

It would have been awesome if you could also do it online with pictures instead of the PS camera (for draft classes, misc.)

But man, this looks dope. I'm hyped!

Crazy. I love what I've been hearing so far. It would be incredible if they had an online tech that could work with images too.

Static scanning of a photo or flat video image is completely different from consumer 3D face scanning. This is an industry first.

It's like saying Avatar was no big deal because you saw the black and white King Kong in 3D with blue and red glasses.
Again when have I said it's no big deal? I said the premise isn't new and it lessen some of the OMG affect. I still love the addition and if I do end up with 2K it'll be the first thing I do. People have read way too much into that one sentence.

I have no dog in the fight. I just want the best simulation on court with the best BAP mode. Whoever delivers will be the game I purchase if I don't get both.

Looks good, now hopefully we'll be able to choose the length of our socks....

Somebody get DWade to sit in front of a Kinect/PS4 Eye Toy and upload his FaceScan to a custom roster!

You come across as a yappy dog most of the time. It's not a good look if you wanna stick around these parts.

Of course the premise isn't new. It's the realization of that premise and it's ideal that is. The fact that it's been tried in the past with less than satisfactory results is what makes it even more exiting.

It's like saying that the availability of cell phones isn't quite as exiting because we had fisher price walkie talkies growing up-- when in fact it's one big step towards the realization of a dream. It remains an industry first and a first for 2K or any basketball game, which makes it even more exciting for someone who cares about any of the above.

If 3D scanning featured on Live, it wouldn't have made sense to say "this isn't new, cause Gameface" either. I know as someone who thinks the Live series is sub par, I would still have stewed in jealousy.

So will our my player be our Gm like last year? I hope not. Last year I made a 20 year old player and ended up with a 20 year old Gm too. I hope they can find a way to use this feature in my league, or as a player in mg.

They definitely didn't create the concept...but I guess my that logic it'd be hard to be impressed with anything, lol

2k didn't create the concept of a season mode, but the amount of customization they are allowing this year is unheard of..

Live 15 isn't the first basketball tittle to have authentic sneakers, but the level of detail they put in this year is unmatched..(I think you even "wowed" at the level of detail)

By no means am I saying your obligated to be amazed by the feature....just seemed like an odd sticking point..

Well then....this changes everything.

Not a real big sneaker guy so I doubt it was me.

And you are right and judging by everybodies comments I should have worded my post different. What I was trying to say is I would have really been blown away had I never seen my face in a game ever before. As of now I'm thoroughly impressed.

Fair enough, and my bad if I misquoted you.

1. According to the ABC article, you can't scan your dog, your penis, or a picture. It supposedly needs to detect features of an actual face to work.

2. The difference between the console cameras and webcams is not just resolution, but the ability to detect depth. Most important among other things for this...

3. Other games have features that take your picture and creates a face based on that. None of them at even close to this level. One of them just takes your picture and paints it on a head. Another takes features (eyes, nose, mouth) and finds the closest match to what's already in their system. This tech pretty much seems to mimics the multicamera face scanning and sculpts the the full face and features.

I'm not intro MyCareer because I want more RPG-like depth. And I think the stories are... Well. Let's just say I'm not a fan. This mode has gone further and further away from the type of mode I dreamed of. But I'm heading straight to the Park with this feature. See you all there!

PS: with Twitter and all of the major news outlets gushing over this, the claim of "breaking the internet" is still marketing hype, but it's still pretty huge.

So will this also take account of Moles, acne, and other types of physical appearance?
