Madden NFL 15 News Post

EA Sports is currently livestreaming Madden NFL 15, detailing the presentation and graphics. (Note: As of 3:30 PM EST, the stream has now ended. We'll effort an archived version soon!)

UPDATE: Click here to watch the archived stream. (It takes some time to load...)

Here are some thoughts on the stream today:
  • The halftime show is definitely improved and of good quality. The problem will be most will find it perfectly skippable, but there aren't any real cases where a halftime show is must-see TV, even in real-life. It's sponsored by Verizon, so there's that.
  • Commentary was ok, you didn't hear much of it due to the dev commentary over the gameplay, but it seemed to flow a bit better. We won't know anything about that until a later date.
  • Coaches have unique body types and head models, so they do look better. Coaches we saw today (Reid, Tomlin mainly) were definitely a step up.
  • Celebrations and such definitely are smoother/more aware of the context they're happening in since they happen within the gameplay itself and not a loaded cut-scene. Still some wonky instances but overall better.
  • The developers talked about equipment a bit. The new uniforms for each team are going to be in, and uniform/helmet degradation are in as well.
  • Switching of cameras was very smooth, definitely a huge improvement there.
  • Sidelines are much busier now, more people on them, etc. They still don't look perfect, but from where we were to where we are now, huge improvement.
  • Overall the presentation is quite good in-game this year, it definitely has a new layer of polish on it that wasn't there last year. It's not perfect, but clearly its taken yet another leap ahead this season.

So much for "we won't need sliders this year." Yikes.

Man.......they need to patch the DB and LB coverage AI. Way too many players be left open every pass play.

i had to get up for a minute. Did they show Bortles coming onto the field....What kind of video was there for him

Halftime show was definitely improved on since E3, we still need to see them add the broadcast cam angle though.

Relative to presentation and graphics I'm not impressed at all. The presentation and halftime show didn't wow me one bit and the lighting and colors were really.....really.....bad IMO.

For some reason that looked much worse than the last livestream. One of these years they are really going to have to trash the gameplay code base of this game and build something new. The animation system is just so ancient and hideous.

I bet there are some pretty talented software engineers working on the game that are forced to use this dinosaur legacy code due to annual release demands. If only they could have some time and resources to rebuild.

On the AI side of things, the secondary looked rather hapless—contrary to what we've heard and were shown last livestream.

The last stream and the little tidbits I had seen here and there lately, before this, had me really hyped. What I saw here definitely was a letdown. Hopefully I can go back and re-watch the whole thing and get a better feel for it, but that wasn't very good at all.

Not saying it really means anything, just saying, I hope the next EA stream/reveal/video release shows off better gameplay than that.

It's sad that all of you complain complain complain. Do you think it makes the devs job any easier when all people do is complain? No!

Hmm. Graphics are beautiful and I saw some pretty satisfying things (computer-controlled Foles stepping into the pocket) but I didn't see too many over/under throws that were advertised by the devs. I'm sure the pass acc sliders need to be tuned. Along with most of the other sliders as well. Alas.

Come on, a lot of these comments are pretty specific and constructive criticisms of the game. We don't need to make their job easy by simply ignoring the senses and impressions their $60 video game gives us.

maybe if someone tells EA in feedback...they will fix it and add more time to the stats banners...👍👌

The colors didn't look anything like this and that's what really stood out to me.

If it is constructive, it does make their job easier. saying this game sucks, doesnt. Pointing out areas that need to be improved definitely does. Heck they even reference the community concerns about different issues during the gameplay presentation.

This accurately reflects how I feel as well. It felt like I was watching Madden 25 way more than I expected. It just seems stiff and stale compared to the last livestream we saw—which I'll admit was a much more controlled scenario generally.

I thought the lighting for the most part looked pretty good, but those Steelers and Jags uniforms hurt my eyes. They're not even black, they're grey. How shall I say ... this is very "aesthetically unpleasant."

How does spending $60 turn into "hundreds of dollars"?

This would be nice. Not sure why you cant have stat banners on the screen while the replay is going or while your making pre snap adjustments.

The lighting has a lot to do with the colors being washed out I think. When the colors get washed out it gives the players a cartoon look like they're flat and it really bothers me. The 49er vs Jags games in London in 25 was the most ugly game I've ever played and I couldn't believe how bad it looked every time I played it.

I just really, really, really hope that the tourney players they surround themselves with and invite in to provide gameplay feedback didn't convince them to make the QB inaccuracy less effective than originally planned. This happened a couple years ago when revamped zone defense was touted new feature, I remember reading feedback updates from a GC on another site where he said he told the devs it should be toned down after one of his visits to try the game out, said it was too good. Heaven forbid.

I guess all I can do is just wait and see. They've been HAMMERING us from a PR perspective that the Sim Gamer was being represented this year. I hope so.
