All my friends who were set on buying this game changed their minds .

All because of the controls

Sales wont have much to do with it. Fight Night Champion had 3-4 patches. This game will have at least 1 or 2. Thats one of the reasons why I was happy the game was coming from EA. They are consistent when it comes to patching their games.

Absolutely. This isn't a yearly release game so it should get proper attention with patches and what not for at least a year. Those other yearly release games have a pretty small window where they will patch a game because they are so focused on making next years game. Those games always have the question of whether it's worth taking time to fix in the current version, or make sure it's fixed for the next. I think UFC will probably have most of the big issues fixed by the time they shift their focus from this game to the next.

I downloaded the demo last night but didn't play until this morning. I'll say right now I don't know the UFC all that well or the strategy and what not. Besides Basketball, it's really the only major sport I don't know strategy and don't pay attention to a ton. I love the UFC I just pay attention to other sports more. So with that said I probably won't find the flaws that many see which is probably a good thing. I encourage this game to be as sim as possible though. I love games that are as close to sim as can be. Those are just my types of games. As a few of you said we probably won't ever get a close to true sim game with UFC.

So far though I totally agree on the aggressive AI. That needs to be toned down. This game was extremely hard for me though. The only UFC game I bought and have played was UFC 2010. I played the absolute hell out of it until I grew tired of the lack of presentation and found some gameplay issues. Either way that was fun while it lasted. This game just knocks that out of the park haha. I always struggled with their controls though and it seems partially the same in this game. It's just a matter of learning them, and understanding what each move does. As I said before it's tough when you don't know names of moves or have strategy. I could easily be considered as a button masher and I cannot stand that I am. That's why I'm hoping to learn. I think this game could be a ton of fun though. I'm still debating on whether to get it or not (not sure how much I'll play it being I play The Show) but none the less it would give me something new to play.

Coming from UFC 3 to this is a slight change but I didn't find it that different. The striking is similar in regards to the face buttons it is just the confusion of what combinations of buttons do what move. The clinch and ground game is very much just like UFC 3. The only difference is in UFC 3 you just had to hold the right stick in any left/right direction to block a pass then ratings dictated the rest. EA UFC is using the same type of pass system but the defense system changes slightly by having to hold R2 then you must flick the RS in the DIRECTION of the pass. That has been my findings at least, I'm pretty certain the direction they attempt to pass towards is the direction the right stick needs to be flicked to prevent the pass. So this alone allows for a more challenging ground game, which I like.

Then by adding even more options of the RS to defend things on the ground. R2 + RS DOWN blocks opponents on top from trying to get up and R2 + RS UP blocks submission attempts. So you throw in all these different combinations and it really makes a more strategy filled ground/clinch/takedown game.

If they can tone down the aggressiveness, plus give a bigger stamina hit for "highlight" moves then that would make it worthy of a purchase. If they would go even further and allow custom control maps then that would be incredible, but we all know that won't happen lol

I'm right there with you. I LOVE THE UFC!! However, I'm only a causal if you pit it against basketball, baseball, or football. I think the demo looks OUSTANDING graphically, and sounds amazing! Now to the actual game play, it felt kind of sluggish at 1st, but then I realized it's because I was getting gased just spamming buttons all over the place causing this. I really don't have a strategy at this point because the controls are so unfimilar. I have no idea how the submission game works even after going through the tutorial?? Should I hold the right stick and flick the left when I see it?????? Overall, the final product I think will be just fine as soon as I and we (all of us here at OS) get better at the controls I'm sure the game will grow on us...I also remember reading the forums for all other MMA game both by THQ and EA and both received some unjust and just critism, but mostly on unjust.

The one question I do have is, what exactly is Ignite? Where is it in this game? That is a legitimate question because it is based on some of the things EA Sports touted. AI, crowd dynamics, physics etc.

Anybody else having trouble blocking ground and clinch transitions? I feel like I'm hitting R2 and moving the right stick at the right time but I don't think I've blocked a transition yet in my 10 or so fights. Even in the tutorial it took a bunch of tries for me to block one.

Also I just discovered that you can sway by holding L2 and flicking the left stick in any direction just like in UFC 3.

I just sent a tweet to Corey (who wrote the hardcore impressions of the game for the site) asking him about the aggressiveness issue and if its in the retail version.

Downloaded the demo on X1, played for about two hours. I left it saying damn, this is a beautiful game. I'm not going to purchase it though. As I played, the same sense that I get with Madden I get here. Pretty game, but everything feels too organized and telegraphed. I don't feel the punches, take downs and the violent nature of it. To sum up, even though I am playing a video game, the game does not do much to persuade me that I'm actually there in a big fight. It doesn't do much to blur the line when it comes to the experience. Aesthetics, it does a great job, but when it comes to the experience, I don't feel it.

Does anyone know how the reversals on the ground work? From what I'm seeing it is just using the modifier and quarter circle in certain positions. If that is the case that sucks because online is going to be flopping around like fish out of water. Guys should not be going from terrible positions to full mount so easy also.

I noticed this last night with me and bones trading reversals and it just didn't look right.

Didn't one of the Fight Night games actually patch in an alternate control scheme? I remember being surprised that an entire control scheme was getting added post-release. So that's something.

They did. That was the first year they used the right stick for Total Control Boxing and people complained because they were used to using the buttons for punches.

Another major issue I have is the controls. The striking has no rhyme or reason to it. So if I hit square or triangle with no left stick it throws jab or cross, that seems logical. If I hold back on the LS and hit square or triangle it throws uppercut, again that makes sense. Now the kicking controls is where it gets stupid. So if I hit X or O with no LS it will throw inside or outside leg kicks, that is good. If I add LS forward with X or O then I get teep or front kicks. If I hold back on the LS stick with X and O then I get head or ax kicks.

Ok so now lets throw these controls in while moving around the ring. I'm out of range, I want to lunge in with a leg kick. HOW???? If I hold forward then I with throw a front kick, if I flick LS then X or O I get a body kick.

Same issue stands with the sway on the LT and block on the RT. Why do I have to hold LT and flick LS to sway????? Why couldn't this just have been mapped to the RT??????? Then you could block while moving, plus if you want to sway you flick the LS like normal, LT is redundant! Instead I have to play circus dexterity on the controller to do things I want to do. Ohhhh and speaking of redundancy, why in the hell do you have a L1 and R1 power? Why couldn't just R1 been power strikes??

I'm sorry guys it might sound like I'm bitching, but damn I was so hyped for this game and when I played the demo it smashed my dreams of what I had for the game. Brain Hayes and crew I just don't get their mindset on certain things. So many minor things could be changed to make this title out of this world great but instead its plagued with stupid design decisions.

It will take the retail version being drastically different for me to buy it. I'm still holding hope the higher difficulty levels will fix the hyper aggressive AI, because I feel online this game will be a mess. It is so easy to throw special moves with lack of a stamina hit, I see EA MMA all over again online. Super CAFS and just a **** ton of people spamming the advance moves looking for lucky KOs. So because of that the offline will have to be my saving grace and the only way that will happen is if the AI aggression and strategy is fixed.
Actually the forward to throw hooks, irks the hell out of me. I want to sidestep and close distance as I jab. The thing about the striking that irks me the most, is it is much harder to pull off say Jab, Cross, Leg kick, a fairly basic combination, than it is to pull off left hook, right hook, Front face kick, Which comes off much easier in the controls, but would be a much more difficult combo to throw in real life.

Couple guys playing against one another.
http://www.twitch.tv/maxlvl

Goes to show how horrible the stamina is, one guy spamming highlight moves and wins by KO in second round after 30+ round house kicks and such lol

Online will be this if stamina is like demo

Round house......ax kick....ax kick.....teep.....teep......teep.....cart wheel wild kick.....off the cage super man....round house....head kick....head kick...ax kick....................................regular punch!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
