MLB 14 The Show News Post

PlayStation.Blog has posted their MLB 14 The Show developer blog which details quick counts and player lock features, which help complete games faster.

Other details not mentioned in the video are listed below.
  • Quick Counts and Player Lock are game options; they aren’t mandatory.
  • Quick Counts and Player Lock are available in all game modes except Road To The Show.
  • Player lock will allow you to play a full game in as little as 10 minutes.
  • With Quick Counts on, you will cut your game completion times in half if used in conjunction with the Fast Play presentation setting. Games can now be completed in as little as 30 minutes.
  • Realistic stats in Quick Counts have not been compromised. However, you may see a slight increase in strike outs and walks.
  • To customize your Player Lock experience, visit the Options page and access the RTTS Options.
  • Player Lock fielding uses fielder-perspective controls, so all bases are mapped opposite of non-Player Lock games (i.e. Square = First, X = Second, Circle = Third, Triangle = Home)
What are your thoughts on quick counts and player lock?

I am extremely hopefully for quick counts. It sounds great because I earn more awards over the course of a baseball season than I do walks!

This will not only cut down the game time(which means I can play more games and seasons) but also give me a chance at getting into the actual game more. EX. drawing walks for a change, racking up the opposing pitcher's pitch count rather than altering my sliders, etc... And most of all, making the game more fun(if possible) by having a bigger opportunity to make things happen...

Can't wait for April!!!

Doesn't have any effect on lighting.

I think he meant the day to night transition. Like if it gets darker faster with quick counts because of the pitches you aren't seeing, passing the time faster.

Yeah I should have been more specific. This is what I meant.

No it doesn't have a noticeable effect.

So if it is night game in May and you use QC it would get dark at the same pace as last year..that is, based on inning you are in versus # of pitches thrown?

I was also curious about how QC works with time of game. Will the time of game progress more realistically with QC (heck..even without QC)? Last year, for example, game times seemed shorter than normal. Most real AL games last about 3- 3-1/2 hrs and NL games 2-1/2 - 3 hrs. But game clock time in stadium was often shorter than that unless you played a 12 inning game. Thanks.

I believe the light/shadows progress per batter so QC on or not shouldn't matter.

i'm sorry if this was asked anywhere else on this forum. i saw one person asked it and was re-directed to this thread, but i didn't see the answer here, either. with quick counts on, is there ever a scenario where the count is 0-0? if there is not, then i will not be using this feature. if there is, i'll at least try it. thanks. and sorry again, if this was asked anywhere else. i tried a quick search, as i said, but only found it asked once, and didn't find it answered.

Correct, no 0-0 counts.

I'm pretty sure both video blogs specifically mentioned QC used in conjunction with Fast Play. Not Broadcast presentation.
