MLB 14 The Show News Post

PlayStation.Blog has posted their MLB 14 The Show developer blog which details quick counts and player lock features, which help complete games faster.

Other details not mentioned in the video are listed below.
  • Quick Counts and Player Lock are game options; they aren’t mandatory.
  • Quick Counts and Player Lock are available in all game modes except Road To The Show.
  • Player lock will allow you to play a full game in as little as 10 minutes.
  • With Quick Counts on, you will cut your game completion times in half if used in conjunction with the Fast Play presentation setting. Games can now be completed in as little as 30 minutes.
  • Realistic stats in Quick Counts have not been compromised. However, you may see a slight increase in strike outs and walks.
  • To customize your Player Lock experience, visit the Options page and access the RTTS Options.
  • Player Lock fielding uses fielder-perspective controls, so all bases are mapped opposite of non-Player Lock games (i.e. Square = First, X = Second, Circle = Third, Triangle = Home)
What are your thoughts on quick counts and player lock?

This thread is starting to get more annoying everyday !!!

It's turning into the Madden forums where it's becoming just a nonstop negativity hate thread. The sense of entitlement is ridiculous. "my team doesn't have this, The coke bottle in San Fran is on a 45 degree angle when it should be a 38 degree, I want that, this new mode seems dumb because I won't use it..
There is nothing constructive just complaining about this and that. Saying things like, IMO the sleeves look atrocious." That's just plain disrespectful. You know the devs come on her because they care about the game and to throw around comments like that is disgusting. You could just say you're not a fan of them and leave it at that.
Anyways I love the quick counts and player locks. Going to be really popular with the The Show community. Can't wait for the next dev blog!

I'd love to complain about people that complain about people complaining but I won't...for now.

You guys are being way too emotional over this, questions were asked as to why I and others don't like the way the jerseys look, and they were answered.

Some people on this forum act like its a sin to have your own personal gripes with the game. If you don't want to see what I'm complaining about then don't read my posts, the last 7 or so pages of this thread have been about the same thing, so if you're choosing to read it, that's on you.

Also, no one called out the Devs, read the posts, i said i didn't like the way the jersey looked, then one of the devs asked for examples and explanations.

All of some peoples comments are all about complaining about other people complaining. Literally, that's all their comments are about.

I'd personally like to complain that Nationals no longer play in Montreal. Thank you.

Here are my three thoughts/emotions/gripes on the subject...

1. It's grossly off-topic of the thread.
2. The developers obviously do care, or they wouldn't give you this type of accessibility to them, let alone engage in conversation. I won't ask for examples of another developer that's more accessible. So I can easily see people thinking "how you could fix your mouth to say that", so to speak.
3. As an engineer, it pains me to see us discussing physics (dynamics) in reference to a static entity (screenshot); it's a huge oxymoron (but I'm just OCD like that lol). I don't think you can accurately judge until we actually see it in well, motion.

Anyway, my post was continuing the OT banter... sorry.

Not that anyone cares what I think but in my opinion the sleeves on the jerseys in the screenshots I have seen so far of MLB 14 The Show are more then acceptable as far as I am concerned!

However I totally understand if the sleeves bother some people. What's important to some may not be important at all to others. Like for example I bet there are a few guys around here that are very happy that the Pitcher can now pick up the rosin bag and throw it back down in realtime while others here could probably care less.

Only for the PS4 version that is. That 8GB of memory is going to do wonders for this great game!

I hope we get a presentation blog featuring all the new cool little things that were not possible on the PS3 version of the game.

Because you kept complaining... We all got the point.

I think the sleeves are blown way out of proportion and look just fine. Looking forward to some more media to see what the PS4 version will look like. It's amazing how caught up people can get on the smallest details. I have a feeling those people would've given up on gaming in the 8-bit era.

I've never played the show before but now that I own a PS4 I'm excited about the opportunity. The quick counts look like a great addition and they're really breaking ground on some other things like the year-to-year saves carryover. This game is looking pretty exciting. I can't wait till May.

Read the posts, everything i said was in response to someone else, i wasn't just ranting about it by myself.

It's over now anyways, i don't know why you felt the need to add that.

Also to the rest of your post, i get caught up on the smallest details because all of the bigger things in the game i'm not worried about. I'm definitely not worried about gameplay, and i'm definitely not worried about RTTS. So the only thing that concerns me about the game is some graphics things.

If i was still playing MLB 2k, the way the uniforms look would be one of the last things on my mind.

I agree with you on this. The Show is one of those games that we pretty much know will have great gameplay but it's those little details that put the game over the top. The Show does this better than anyone though. They are the kings of small details. I do think the sleeves and jerseys look a bit weird but for me it's really not that big of an issue. It is for some though so I understand that.

However, the fact that some people are hyping out about the PS4 version based on 7 or whatever screen shots is flat out pathetic. Not to mention we have already been told by the developers that these screen shots are pretty old. Once the game is seen in motion and we get other details on it, then we can give our constructive criticism. To me it's just flat out unfair and disrespectful to the developers to bash (not saying you're bashing it) the game this early or even at all. They are the only developers that actually come on here and take our feedback to heart. If they continue to get hated on, at some point they may just decide not to even come on here anymore.

I find it funny around here how some things are accepted as "complaints" and others not.

Better editing tools? I don't give a toss but I respect why you might want it.

The show is so great already that it allows some people to see some small things that might need improved in future. Look at some things that they have put into the PS4.

"Light Reflecting off individual blades of grass"
"Ball boys"
"Crazy amounts of beard hair"

Are all of these things necessary? No absolutely not but they add to an already great game. In my opinion the uniforms could be improved from the stills I have seen so far (maybe too early to judge).

Better cloth physics.
More realistic script and logo material.
Correct scale logos and piping.

These are all little things in my opinion that could be improved. Those are not just complaints for the hell of it. Just opinions. You might have a different opinion. It's not wrong.

If it wasn't for all of these so called "complainers". We wouldn't have the amazingly detailed game we have today and that includes that very unnecessary but beautiful grass that improves the game.

Most of the time people are polite and respectful when giving constructive criticism, yet the usual suspects come in and shoot them down. They then band everyone who says the slightest thing down about the Show together as some kind of losers who should just sit down and shut up.

Yes the devs are the best out there.
Yes it's the best sports game if not game out there.

Can it be improved?

I never saw this question get answered.

Will QC be available in online play?

# 254 barsoffury @ 03/03/14 09:50 AM
I re-watched the blog and scanned some pages through here but I couldn't find it. So my question is, well two questions are:
1. Can you have quick counts just for pitching or just hitting or when it's on it's for both?
2. Can you toggle quick counts on and off while in game? Perhaps I want to speed through the first few innings or so, I would have QC on but when it's late in the game I may want more control with each at bat so I would just turn off quick counts.

Russell said it was available for online franchise, but no word on other online game modes. Hopefully not as it would be a quick way to boost universal profile XP and maybe "stubs"?

They could have easily balanced the XP and Stub system to account for that.

I agree QC's should stay out of ranked modes like DD. But for unranked lobby matches or challenges, if both players agree to use QC's I don't see the issue.

It would be awesome to toggle the quick counts on and off. I could see getting a lot of use out of using the quick counts early innings and then playing the last three or four innings completely. Very good point.

Also would be nice to split the pitching and hitting QC. Maybe something for The Show '15 that they could do.

I agree with you. My only point was let's wait until we get more than just a few screenshots to judge from.
