MLB 14 The Show News Post

From Gamestop's website, you can get a $20 Universal Currency bonus for pre-ordering MLB 14 The Show right now. The big news is that the currency will be spendable in every mode within the game, even within your 'Franchise Budget.'

What that implementation means is anyone's guess. The mention of a currency system does bring up bad memories of the 'always online' and Virtual Currency problems which have plagued NBA 2K14. It would of course, be to the products detriment if you have to 'buy' common features like adjusting your lineup with Universal Currency. There is no concrete confirmation exactly what will be required, but we will be waiting to hear on any additional details on how extensive the Universal Currency system's implementation will be within the game.

Im sorry, but I hate the 2K vs SCEA references.
Maybe NBA 2K had 0 Ducks, but MLB2K sure had a bunch. About 7 years worth!

And worrying about SCEA because 2K F'd up is like blaming Coke because Pepsi sucks!

I just dont see the rationale there.

Whatever. The point is that all these people (and Im not pointing fingers) but all these people are getting all in a tiff and SCEA hasnt even said word one yet. All because some (IMO) "Gamer Hack" posted an article making everyone freak out.
Pasta Padre needs to be put in his place and I wish someone would do it.
I would if I knew how. He is wrong more often than he is right and he has burned any bridges he had with SCEA and its probably why hes causing such havok right now. He does it for the site hits. Plain and simple and by the off chance hes right, he can come out and say "I told you so".

Hes A Freakin Hack!

Like I said.... this happens every year right about this time. Everyone gets all amped up looking for the littlest table scraps they can find.

Hell, for all we know, maybe Sony is going to implement the use of CDs on the PS4 and SCEA is frantically rushing to put SOTS back into the game.

Who knows, The fact is we DONT know and until they release their Dev Blogs.... We WONT know.

Anyway, time to hit the sack. Sorry for bustin your balls.
Dont take things to personally here. The internet affords humans big egos and even bigger keyboard muscles!

Are games selling worse or are they at a point where they cost a lot of money to make.

If neither is true then then the extra money grab is kind of a slap in the face to consumers. It's not like we bootleg there product. Maybe people didn't buy enough rtts steroids or the other options so they decide they need another way to capitalize on the impatient players.

The worse thing that could be done is to place this on us players who care not about taking the easy way out.

Games like 2k and the show are taking the biggest risk doing something like this when it requires being online always (if that's the case with the show) swing as they have the worse servers of every sports game year in and year out.

For example: you have to use VC "Currency" to change your line up in GM mode.
if you are out of VC then you either HAVE to play with the line up you have until you have enough VC to fix your line up, or the HAVE TO PURCHASE MORE VC with real money.
Its not a little issue, it literally RUINED the game.
Thats why people are freaking.
Back on topic, this is my worry. We don't know what the features are until they tell us. But, if there anything like NBA 2K14, then I certainly won't be purchasing the game. But, if it is just universal currency used over the different modes and my franchise doesn't have to be connected to their servers at all times, then I'm fine.

It's pretty simple for me. If I can not play an offline franchise and I will be subjected to microtransactions to manuever what I can do on my PS4....It may be a long while before I ever go to a new console.

Sports games that require you to be online at all times and hit you with pay for play are not going to fly with me on the PS4 when I decide to get one. And I really really hope The Show does nothing like what I have read 2K basketball did. I would never buy 2K for PS4 in it's current state.

Man what is going on??? What the hell is happening to us solo offline franchise guys? Don't get me wrong....I love playing in SOS Madden...it is a blast. But I am having my usual awesome time with my offline CFM, Dynasty, franchise/classic season replays, Be A GM, and Association modes on my PS3.

If this is really the future of sports gaming.....I am not buying it.

I gotta believe The Show will still be a robust offline game. Gotta believe that. Baseball is not some wide spread popular sport anymore. We are fast becoming a cult (baseball fans) much like the NHL. Maybe I am wrong but baseball has far less popularity today than the NFL and NBA.

Limb......I'm going out on it.....there won't be anything in the game you need to buy UC for.
Just a guess.

If you don't like our implementation and execution of Universal Currency in MLB 14 The Show, it won't be for any of the aforementioned reasons already discussed.

There isn't any idea in that thread that we aren't aware of or haven't thought about internally already.

If you don't speak your voice there is nothing for anyone to hear and learn from. Methinks SCEA has heard loud and clear and let us hope 2K has too.

This is very true. But there is a distinct difference between whining and being heard and more often than not, whining is not head but ignored. Especially the higher up you go. Thats why we have the wishlists, so we can be heard.
