MLB 14 The Show News Post

From Gamestop's website, you can get a $20 Universal Currency bonus for pre-ordering MLB 14 The Show right now. The big news is that the currency will be spendable in every mode within the game, even within your 'Franchise Budget.'

What that implementation means is anyone's guess. The mention of a currency system does bring up bad memories of the 'always online' and Virtual Currency problems which have plagued NBA 2K14. It would of course, be to the products detriment if you have to 'buy' common features like adjusting your lineup with Universal Currency. There is no concrete confirmation exactly what will be required, but we will be waiting to hear on any additional details on how extensive the Universal Currency system's implementation will be within the game.

I dont know if you have kids or not, but let me tell you something about my experience.
When my kids whine or dont ask for something the right way, I completely ignore them until they ask the right way, "May I please....."
But, "Daddy Im hungry" or "But I dont want to" usually gets ignored. So much so that by now (5 & 8) they know to ask the right way and not whine and theyll get the attention they seek.

Something that even adults can learn from and something I learned very quickly in the military.
Seeking proper channels and inquiring the correct way can go alot farther than, what my wife & I call,
"B-ing & C-ing".

Just some food for thought.

it was never a serious situation.

My point is that complaining about colors of the team hats can be described as whining, saying that you don't want a situation like NBA 2K's is NOT whining, but discussing a serious problem.

LOL! #1 the fact that you equate a kitchen on fire to this situation proves our point.
Its not that serious. Its a video game, not a life or death fire!

#2 saying the kitchen is on fire when you havent even seen the kitchen, is not only counterproductive, its ignorant.

#3 Making assumptions or drawing conclusions without proper information is irresponsible, as PastaPadre often is.
It is really because of his article that this thread turned into what it did.

#4, Im singling out PP more than anyone else. Hes the one that raised the question and blamed it on the gamers.
Rather than trying to be the voice of reason, he creates drama and panic so people click his .com

Sports games that require you to be online at all times and hit you with pay for play are not going to fly with me on the PS4 when I decide to get one. And I really really hope The Show does nothing like what I have read 2K basketball did. I would never buy 2K for PS4 in it's current state.

Man what is going on??? What the hell is happening to us solo offline franchise guys? Don't get me wrong....I love playing in SOS Madden...it is a blast. But I am having my usual awesome time with my offline CFM, Dynasty, franchise/classic season replays, Be A GM, and Association modes on my PS3.

If this is really the future of sports gaming.....I am not buying it.

I gotta believe The Show will still be a robust offline game. Gotta believe that. Baseball is not some wide spread popular sport anymore. We are fast becoming a cult (baseball fans) much like the NHL. Maybe I am wrong but baseball has far less popularity today than the NFL and NBA.
The NHL attendance numbers are higher than the NBA.

Not if some believe that anything posted here or on that cooking ladies website had any influence on UC/VC and the way SCEA ever intended to use it in The Show.
Dead issue?

Like it was stated on page ONE .....it never WAS an issue.

Glad to see the forum temperature is down to about a Defcon 4. Thought we were going to have to push the button there. My goodness!

Oh my goodness. The reason these forums were created in the first place was so that we could talk about these issues. There's always going to be two sides to these things. If there wasn't, what fun would this be? It would just be a site filled with robotic like rebuttle.

The opening title was vague, explaining that univeral currency was coming, as if it wasn't here, although it was in a sort of way with virtual currency already in place. A gentleman voiced his concern over 2K sports integration of universal currency. That's all he did. That is in no way considered whining in my books. Most businesses, from my perspective anyway, look at any way possible to grow their profit. This wouldn't be surprising in the least if it were the case.

Every person has a voice and there was two sides going back and forth, which made it fun. We eventually got our answer. The man was showing concern, that's all. Give the guy a break. He wasn't being ignorant...

Difference being yours was a thought-out and well-written rebuttal.

I think behaviors in another thread sort of also contributed to some people's opinions.

Great comment. The guy who voiced his complaints could've done so in a more constructive manner. But the echo chamber-like rebuttals to his complaint were also not constructive in my opinion.

I personally find Russell's comment a little vague so I will withhold judgment until I see the system as it's actually implemented -- and not rejoice prematurely.

Not their TV ratings though. NBA is far more widely watched. Again Live Hockey is awesome. And most hockey fans prefer to watch it live. On TV is does not do better than the NBA and a lot of the money comes from the cable revenue and networks.

This is my last post on this.

My biggest problem with this entire exchange has been this....and I'm sorry, but it's indisputable, regardless of what you may or may not think is "going to happen" with VC/UC.

Year after year after year SCEA has given communities and THIS one in particular UNPRECEDENTED access....input and the ability to shape this game.
YEARS.
Yet one article by someone who IMO has had an agenda for whatever reason towards SCEA and The Show in general brought out the wolves here.
(I don't mean O.S. or MMChriss and I'm not blaming MMChriss for bringing this article here at all.....he was actually doing good IMO by taking the exchange here.)

...but...
Not even a hint of the benefit of the doubt for the devs.

Reread the thread.
Before anyone even turned the heat on to the doubters....there was post #1 on page 2.
That set the tone in my book.

Goodnight and good luck!

Wait but why are we associating terrible video games with ducks?

I knew a girl that had 2 ducks. They are very pleasant and lovable creatures.
