MLB 14 The Show News Post

From Gamestop's website, you can get a $20 Universal Currency bonus for pre-ordering MLB 14 The Show right now. The big news is that the currency will be spendable in every mode within the game, even within your 'Franchise Budget.'

What that implementation means is anyone's guess. The mention of a currency system does bring up bad memories of the 'always online' and Virtual Currency problems which have plagued NBA 2K14. It would of course, be to the products detriment if you have to 'buy' common features like adjusting your lineup with Universal Currency. There is no concrete confirmation exactly what will be required, but we will be waiting to hear on any additional details on how extensive the Universal Currency system's implementation will be within the game.

Outside of the "2X and 4X boosts", all of the "in-game" items can currently be purchased in the ps store as optional microtransactions... Hopefully it stays that way.
I hope they bring back the Owner mode-like items, but I'll stop playing the series if I can't play it offline. Please Sony San Diego, learn from NBA 2K's mistakes.

BOO!

I'm sorry to those I've just hospitalized......

Wow.

As I posted on page 1.....UC/VC has been in the game for years.
What has changed?

If it's simply "currency" and not tied to gameplay, no big deal.

If it's "universal currency" (VC) that is used to make changes to in-game lineups and features, SCEA is going to get blowback.

The good news is they have a chance to see the overwhelming reaction from their core fan base and have time to adjust things, so I'm not too concerned.

The first part is a perfect example of terrible logic. The dude must have forgotten the RTTS, DD and Franchise budget DLC that was offered as the "major preorder incentives" from various sites last year. Now, I can't speak for DD as I never even glance at it, but such content never once impacted my game other than seeing the in-game option to purchase (in fact, I gave my codes from Gamestop to a friend).

The second part is just laughable and no better than the fear-based and fact-free conjecture that we see posted by anyone on an internet forum (including this thread). "Universal" is typically used to simply suggest streamlining and cross-mode/function/platform/whatever availability. It doesn't usually equate to something as pervasive and restrictive as VC turned out to be.

None of that is to say it couldn't possibly turn out to be as bad as VC, but, you see, that's the best part about publishing these kind of "what if" scenarios...you are free from any real responsibility for it.

Why bother with pesky things like a developer's track record or tangible info when we can spread doom and gloom! If you end up being right, you say "I told you so." If you're wrong, it's either "I am just looking out for the people!" or "I pushed them to change!"

Unless it lets money grow on trees for the smaller clubs, I think it will be pretty unrealistic, and if you want to play as a team with deep pockets, just be the Yankees, or the Mariners LOL!
Yea, my previous response was more or less explaining why someone would want to earn a larger budget. If someone were to use this boost, then they probably don't care about budgets or playing sim. So...yea, money would grow on trees. That's exactly what it is.

I heard that SCEA will offer an updated color blue for the Blue Jays jersey that you have to pay to unlock

Well, maybe in a few months it will be funny, or maybe it won't. One guess is as good as the other right now.
LOL! Yeah keep that up! You may actually make friends here.... or not!

What's the deal with your constant attitude?

I'm going to ask you nicely to tone it down please.

They act like i'm trashing the game or something, which is FAR from the truth. I love this game. I just have been figuring its because I'm new, and they don't like new people. But I don't have an attitude, like I said, I might be frustrated with the way some people are being with me, but I don't have anything against anyone here.
It's nothing to do with you being new, that's irrelevant and I've never seen new users treated any different than people who have been here a long time.

Just look at other threads not involving you. There are plenty of new users that join all the time and I see none of this "bullying of new users" you have alluded to.

Maybe you don't see the attitude you've had or are happy to turn a blind eye to it but it's there.

I may not have posted in any of them but I've seen the discussions you think you were bullied in and you have brought everything upon yourself.

Take it for what it's worth, just friendly advice....

It's unfortunate you see it that way.
The reality is that it is the other way around.
When you twist words or take on an entitled stance, you get singled out and have no one to blame but yourself.
