MLB 14 The Show News Post

From Gamestop's website, you can get a $20 Universal Currency bonus for pre-ordering MLB 14 The Show right now. The big news is that the currency will be spendable in every mode within the game, even within your 'Franchise Budget.'

What that implementation means is anyone's guess. The mention of a currency system does bring up bad memories of the 'always online' and Virtual Currency problems which have plagued NBA 2K14. It would of course, be to the products detriment if you have to 'buy' common features like adjusting your lineup with Universal Currency. There is no concrete confirmation exactly what will be required, but we will be waiting to hear on any additional details on how extensive the Universal Currency system's implementation will be within the game.

I know that $19.99 in the game currency wont literally be 20 bucks more for your budget... but just saying, if it was, it would be enough to pay Robinson Cano for less than 30 seconds

I have been saying for several years now paying extra for add on content is stupid. Buying uniform packs, RTTS points, franchise packs, scouting reports whatever it is for whatever game. People have been willing to do it and now they think people will be willing to pay for even more. Until people say we are not paying for extra stuff, then things will just keep getting worse.

I'd disagree and argue that that's exactly how popularity works. If you go to work more it's because you value the idea of working (and making money) more than you value the idea of going to a ball game (and spending money).

Maybe in theory hockey is more interesting than basketball, but life doesn't exist only in theories. If people do something, it's because, all things considered, that's what they prefer to do.

No idea how or why we ended up on this topic though, lol.

There have been studies on this. A greater ratio of NHL fans attend games versus watch on TV in the NHL when compared to the NBA. But when you factor in jersey sales, television audiences, broadband out-of-network subscription services, etc., the NBA is more "popular."

Since I haven't played this game beyond the PS2 level, can someone explain what universal currency is?

In the PS3 versions you have been able to purchase RTTS attribute points and Franchise Budget Dollars through the PSN. But if you wanted both, you had to buy them separately and use them separately.

Theoretically, Universal Currency means you spend money, buy X amount of points and use them in any mode as you see fit.

HOWEVER, there has been no official announcement as of yet, so every thought and prediction is a guess for now.
