NBA 2K14 News Post

IGN has posted the first NBA 2K14 next-gen review, giving it an 8.9 out of 10. In The Park, players can take their MyCAREER player into 2-on-2 half-court, 3-on-3 three-quarter-court, or 5-on-5 full-court games, unfortunately there is no sign of CREW or leagues within the mode.

They mention the MyCAREER voice acting is kind of cheesy, especially considering your player will have audio included, but the people you talk to mostly have subtitles.

In the video review, it looks like warm-ups are confirmed to be back in (for those of you worried about that from earlier videos), the graphics and animations are jaw-dropping, complete with native 1080p and 60 FPS.

Ronnie2K and LD2K will be streaming next-gen NBA 2K14 at 4:00 PM PST today, so we should be able to see and hear even more. For those that are curious, the OS review will be up a week or so after we receive the game. Nobody on staff will have a PlayStation 4 until the 15th.

Agreed . I don't see the problem with the review.

It's most definitely a small thing that can add up to a big thing for me.

It's becoming more and more likely with each passing day that I'll be passing on the next gen title release, but I think I'm more interested in what 2K15 will look like next gen than 2K14. I'm wondering if the further shift in focus (from current to next gen) will lead to a lot of those long-standing small, annoying missed details being fixed up a little (like the aforementioned rim sounds, less glitchy spasms, etc.). Right now, it still seems to look a little too similar to the next gen experience to get me really, really excited.

VD I think it might be enough there to get you excited, and lets also see what they can fix via patch as well but anyway.

Like I said, its time to start a huge thread on the sound because its not matching up with the visuals and gameplay in crucial areas like that. I know LeBron is strong but my lord, the entire backboard rim and everything shakes together and the sound just what makes it seem like a weird experience.

Anyway, where are the gifs, there were some masterful moves in there

Kobe
Paul George
LeBron

If 2k Shows another hoop screenshot, you know what to do next year. Call them out on it. This gen of sports game has TERRIBLE marketing. We should demand more. If they hide like they have been hiding this year, next year then there is no reason to invest in it. Playing like CG is fine for a first year iteration, but as we move forward, it must evolve...DRAMATICALLY. People that suffer from 2k fatigue will skip this game and maybe give the competition a chance. No worries there, but that game has to step it up as well.

The months and weeks leading up to this game, have been unmatched. The potential for this game was high! but it undelivered in terms of translating it into gameplay. But that's a good thing about potential, it puts the idea in your head and there is a strong possibility of executing the idea.

I'm glad it came back down to earth. I was tired of the fanboys religiously defending this game, their marketing, and saying otherwise ridiculous comments to justify their purchase or ridicule the logic of a person that questions the gameplay.

Sure, it was a decent review. I'm not complaining about an 8.9 score. I'm just saying that I don't believe people should base their purchase off of review sites such as IGN/Gamespot.

But yeah, that was pathetic.

And the next gen version of FIFA 14 got 9.1 lol

I'm pretty sure that same guy that did this review also did the IGN rewind for the trailer 2K put out a month ago, and I forgot exactly what he said, but he made a blatant mistake that proved he didn't know much about basketball.

With that said, Friday can't come soon enough.
Trust me, OS score is not going to be any higher. The 8.9 was gracious. I expect it to mirror what it got for current gen

I really do not give a crap about marketing when im only a few days from playing the game

It's the same reviewer. I don't get it either...maybe being that it's next gen, it's held to a different standard? I really don't know, since he had basically nothing but praise for it. His biggest gripes were the cheesy myCareer mode (which has always been kinda cheesy, but understandable), the loose ball physics (which sound like an improvement, if you ask me), some clipping, and the disorganized parts of Park mode.

I think people get too hung up on the score. It sounded like a pretty good review if you just listen to it. And was it the same reviewer. I watched the FIFA review and it was clear that the reviewer felt it was only a port, yet gave it a 9.1.

Maybe the reviewer took points off for certain issues and gripes. Again, an 8.9 is nothing to complain about.

I have to agree here

I mean he gave us the patrick speech (spongebob) The "look at it, look at it!"
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DwKFec9th0U starts at 1:30 if you wanna see what I mean lol.

Anyway, he said its a no brainer to get, I dont agree with him about the ball physics but I see where he is coming from (basically KD got ripped in a crowd of defenders which is very likely)

However about modes being taken out,

Modes were also added.
  • The Park replaces Crew
  • MyGM replaces Association
  • MyCareer is overhauled
  • The only mode missing is LBJ Mode
Still doesn't change the fact that modes were taken out. If they were kept and modes were added along with a more robust multiplayer it would have certainly scored higher.

Like others mentioned it def was a fair review. I'm not big on scores but I know it matters to the developers so with that being said like the next gen fifa review on ign is a better moving better looking version so it should be a better score our atleast equal. For those waiting to next year I understand it but I can't let this pass especially trading in the cg version and paying only ten bucks more seems like a no brainer if you have a ps4 or Xbox one. Can't wait to get my hands on this game. I keep showing my girlfriend YouTube videos like I used to show my mom when I was a kid showing off nba Showtime lol

The crowd doesn't groan when the opposing team makes a key basket(a dagger or a momentum killing shot) It doesn't seem as fluid and realistic. The crowd still needs to react to game and game situations more better than how they do now. It seems artificial along with the hoop we mentioned already. Again, I mention this before, I got shot down with fans of the series saying this is the best sports sounding game and that I was crazy lol. Ok, guy. Ok.

Also breakaway rim physics need to be added. How many players have been shown doing ferocious dunks and the rim doesn't move at all? or when timmy was hanging from the rim? come on man, this is next gen lol

I know people are saying 8.9 is a good score, but these guys gave Madden a 8.5.

So you're telling me that NG NBA 2K is just slightly better than Madden? Lol.

Lol @ you thinking because they're IGN their score holds any more weight than anyone else's...they didn't go to reviewer school and earn a degree....they play videogames and have an opinion like everyone else...

Your too focused on outing some kind of bias in this thread to realize that hardly anyone. one is disagreeing with his flaws...

This game appears to be absolutely amazing, and it's gorgeous.

HOWEVER, am i the only one bothered by the absurd exaggeration on the court lightning? it's distracting.

# 80 23 @ 11/12/13 01:58 AM
If you actually listen to the guy talk instead of looking at the score he did well.

Cant wait to hear about that other game
