NBA 2K14 News Post

IGN has posted the first NBA 2K14 next-gen review, giving it an 8.9 out of 10. In The Park, players can take their MyCAREER player into 2-on-2 half-court, 3-on-3 three-quarter-court, or 5-on-5 full-court games, unfortunately there is no sign of CREW or leagues within the mode.

They mention the MyCAREER voice acting is kind of cheesy, especially considering your player will have audio included, but the people you talk to mostly have subtitles.

In the video review, it looks like warm-ups are confirmed to be back in (for those of you worried about that from earlier videos), the graphics and animations are jaw-dropping, complete with native 1080p and 60 FPS.

Ronnie2K and LD2K will be streaming next-gen NBA 2K14 at 4:00 PM PST today, so we should be able to see and hear even more. For those that are curious, the OS review will be up a week or so after we receive the game. Nobody on staff will have a PlayStation 4 until the 15th.

Get on that NG Atmosphere/Sounds thread, man.

Pretty much any powerful quick smash. they could use sound from Blake Griffin/Dwight dunks for the more power hangs on the rim or alley oops

Here's another

2k is missing it big time.

Sportzbro.... you are absolutely right.. don't forget the announcers excitement, thats exactly what I said and what im going to put in my thread. Hope you guys contribute too because this cheap rattle stuff is awful.

Pretty much what I expected. I didn't buy current gen 2k, so, I think I will be happy.

Looks good to me. Can't wait to get it. I'm a little bit disappointed that we don't get to see all of Craig Sager's crazy suits in next gen lol but Doris Burke will do.

I don't know about you guys, but I find it really disappointing you can barely upgrade if you don't play your games. There will be some MyGM's which I would play games, but others that are sim only. From the sounds of it, sim only MyGM's do not work under the system.

" ... plays almost identical to current gen..." meh

I'll be my own judge on whether or not this game "plays" nearly identical to current gen.

Shout out to OS's own Johanan Anneus for hooking me up with a pre-ordered PS4 tonight so I can experience this game on Friday!!

Mad Respect.

the only thing this game is missing is atmosphere. when curry had that dunk the crowd didnt react as it does in real life in a moment like that.

Crowd atmosphere: another thing i wanna look at once more gameplay vids come out

Honestly I just want that dynamic reaction and sense of accomplishment when you get a stop/score a basket

and of course late game situations, hopefully next gen starts with these two things, we'll see

All is not lost for those of us that view the IGN score to be to low. Metacritic accounted the IGN review of 89 towards the XBOX One console not the PS4. This game deserves a 90 or more on PS4 when you consider all the hard work that has been done in one year on the brand new Eco Motion Engine, graphics, gameplay, new game modes, and attention to detail on a new console. http://www.metacritic.com/game/xbox-one/nba-2k14

The scores are relative to each system, as each piece of hardware has its own technical standards and expectations.

NBA 2K14 on the Xbox 360 has pretty much maxed out the system's technical capabilities. It's about as good as a basketball game is going to be on eight-year-old hardware, hence the higher overall score. Like Larry Brown taking the Charlotte Bobcats to the playoffs, it's doing great things with not a lot of raw physical talent.

NBA 2K14 on the PlayStation 4 is presumably just scratching the surface of what's possible on the system. It might be a better game than the Xbox 360 version when you put the two side by side, but the PS4 version still scores lower overall because it doesn't seem to be getting as much out of the powerful PlayStation 4 hardware as the Xbox 360 version is getting out of much weaker technology. That would make the PS4 edition the "Scott Brooks" version of NBA 2K14: it still performs at a high level, but you can't help but feel like it could be doing a lot better than it is with so much power at its disposal.

I don't think even the most fervent supporters of 2K think the game is above criticism. For some of us it's a matter of context/perspective. Personally I take into account that 2K released a fairly substantial upgrade to the current gen game only a little more than a month ago. I think the most realistic expectation for the next gen game was for it to be more or less a graphical upgrade of the current gen game.

2K's shown they made a much larger effort; and most outlets seem to acknowledge that of all the next gen games with current gen counterparts - ALL, not just the sports games - NBA2K14 next gen looks to have taken the most substantial leap. It's attracting people to the game that aren't even basketball fans. If some saw the hype trailer then raised their expectations several notches above where it should be while losing the perspective that the next gen is releasing only a few months after the current gen game, then imo that's on them. It's the old analogy of a kid bringing home his report card and getting 5 A's and 2 B's, and the parent focuses more on the B's than the A's.

While I understand what you are sayings it's contradictive when you consider we are talking about a next gen sports game that was developed in one year as oppose to a current gen game that has had 8 year's of development. So to be fair if your going to review a game that has had 8 years of development and maxed out a console and there by give it a high score you also need to consider and factor in a game that has had only a year's worth of development yet clearly show's how much work was put into that title in one year. As you said you can't compare a game that has maxed out a system to a game that is only beginning to see it's full potential due to it being on new hardware, but if that game is already the pinnacle of the sport it shouldn't be penalized for it!!!! Just doesn't make sense to me. It's like comparing a brand new state of the art car engine that was developed in one year with the help of many advancements in technology yet rate an 8 year old car engine higher because it's been around longer. To me that's not a scientific or logical way to judge.

1:47, what in the hell is going on?!?! Also, still ALOT of sliding happening. Most notably when you're trying to drive past a defender and they slide in front of you and post play down low.

Some cool stuff, I would like them personally to say it's a port because it is gameplay wise, which is why we buy the game. And that's just the smart thing to do, live set themselves back 8 years tryna create a completely separate next gen experience at the beginning of this current console generation. I just feel mislead that they say it's not a port when it basically is. New modes are cool, that park gon have me never at the real park now.
