NBA 2K14 News Post

James Harden and Dwight Howard -- new teammates in Houston.

If there was ever a way for a game to purposefully play it safe with a championship pick, NBA 2K14 has done just that by declaring the Miami Heat the future NBA Champions according to a next-gen season simulation.

The sim had the Heat besting the Spurs 4-1 -- however once you look under the hood some interesting results become apparent. The West saw the Spurs take the #1 seed, with the Warriors getting the second seed. The Clippers and Thunder tied on record -- with the Clips getting the nod over the Thunder for the third seed.

In the East, the Heat ran away with the top seed with 66 victories on the year. The Nets also had quite a bit of distance between themselves and the Bulls in the three seed. Three teams from the east made the playoffs in the sim with losing records, with both Washington and Cleveland making the playoffs with 37 total

Graphic guys aren't gameplay guys or simulation guys.

Spend less time parroting cliched posts and more time understanding game development. Heh. :P

Looks like the coaches are finally dressed properly with suits and ties not sweater vests.

Good to see they got my dude D-Rose's accessories right finally. Would be nice if he could finally wear actually Adidas gear but I'll live with this for now. He needs to hit the gym apparently too and the tattoo on his arm looks off. Like's its crooked on his arm or something. Other than that, he's spot on.

Sidenote: I see they still got those little tiny *** Playoffs/ECF/Finals logos on Miami's floor? What is the deal with that? It looks ridiculous and I know they can get it right, because they did it right in 2K11. Minor thing, but come on 2K.

That nets bench man...WOW...the folds in the back of KG's neck and the shine off his head....with the improved lighting. I'm gonna be in replay mode alot just taking in the cool scenery with next-gen.

From what I remember in my experience from modding 2k, those logos have to be small to have the center court logo as big as it is in reality. Each logo has its own "area" on the floor and the rectangle that houses the playoffs logo is limited to a certain size on the court due to the Heat logo.

I'm digging the big numbers on the back of jerseys, I remember a few times on CG with 2k and Live small letters and numbers on jerseys being a serious issue

P.S. Joe Johnson finally looks like Joe Johnson and not some Planet of the Apes, alien hybrid.

Not necessarily but if they ran this sim test 10 times and we saw the same answer it could be hard coded. I don't have that information or data so I can't criticize. None of this is out of reality to me without knowing injuries or rookie impact, there could have been trades who knows what was happening here.

That's legitimately interesting. Is it theoretically possible for 2K to reduce the area size of these graphics?

We have a winner for dumbest post of the year. I would like to congratulate sreckless on his work ethic. They said it couldn't be done.

You really think these guys don't watch Basketball? All they do for like 250 days a year (maybe more) is eat/sleep/work on basketball.

Wow...The Pacers under .500. This sim engine is already looking like a problem.

Overreacting much? It's a simulation engine, not real life, and if going off the questionable ratings and tendencies of CG 2K14 not an entirely accurate one. I'm sure they watch plenty of NBA basketball, they just need to do a better job of replicating it.

I'm hoping that they didn't forget to add the adidas tech-fit sleeve that Dwight is famous for. Would be a little disappointing to not see Dwight in it all the next-gen glory. Crossing my fingers.....

Sounds like they need layers like powerpoint so the big picture is on the bottom smaller pictures on top

Its one sim. I played an association in NBA2k13 as the Pacers and Roy Hibbert tore his ACL and was out almost the entire year. You think I turned my Xbox off and said "This isn't sim" and stopped playing? Jesus.

Yeah who knows, right. I'm just sure everyone would be cool with the sim engine if it was the Heat had gone 40-42 in the simmed season.

My point is that it is ridiculous to trumpet the game's graphical "realism" in terms of socks and tattoos and hairstyles and armbands and then fail miserably when it comes to reproducing an NBA basketball season.

Obviously they're not the same department. But since you mention it maybe they should start letting the graphics guys do the ratings -- they could hardly do a worse job.

IMO, this is not a random occurence. I felt when the game was released that VC would shortchange the Pacers and Grizzlies because they have highly rated so many inferior teams. I'm just sick and tired of the overrating of "name" players and franchises at the expense of players and teams that actually win games.

Still not feeling those ankle braces and socks on D Rose. I know it's nit-picking, but it's next-gen! haha

For real, get more options on ankle braces, we need some that come higher, and we need more sock lengths. If that's the only bad thing I can say, then I'm gonna be one happy SOB this November.

Yes & no. They could reduce it, but it reduces the texture because if you don't, you'll have a texture that cut off halfway through since the area is smaller than the logo itself. The way the courts are coded now, apparently each logo is placed in a rectangle vs having the logos be completely separate from the floor itself. If the floor was its own base file and the logos were layered onto the court then sizes could be differentiated w/o being tied to a certain area coded into the court if that makes sense.

Looking at the Harden Howard screenshot above, seems like big men still tend to have bigger heads...

These pics are def from an old build, becuase I just noticed that guys on the bench in the Heat vs. Spurs Finals pic have warm-ups on, but 2k already said players wont have warm-ups in the final build.

Yeah I think it does. What's stopping them from going the layer route?

It looks pretty accurate to me actually. That doesn't happen a whole lot but the west is kind of depleted in terms of great teams compared to the east
