Madden NFL 25 News Post

After ESPN confused the world earlier today claiming current generation gameplay action was next-gen, throwing the Madden public (us included) into fetal positions in the nearest corner -- EA has finally released their actual trailer for next-gen Madden today.
  • Higher fidelity graphics with more detail than ever before (obvious).
  • Animations wise, there is less compression with each one, resulting in better looking moves.
  • Better uniform degradation looks like it's in, as well as much improved lighting
  • Skin is more realistic, with light interacting with it in a more realistic manner
  • 4x the Texture Resolution, stadiums visually look much better as do crowds, fields, and uniforms.
  • Cloth physics where jerseys can be form fitting and look realistic to towels flapping around.
  • Much more varied fans both visually and with the animations. One shot showed some sitting, some standing and cheering. Oh, and crowds are fully 3D!
  • The sidelines look pretty bare still personally, but much better than they ever have on current gen.
  • EA touts the possibilities of even bigger improvements in the coming years.

You can read more on EA Sports' official site. We just added well over a dozen new next-gen screenshots here.

According to the EA website, we are expecting information on new True Step player motion, new Player Sense (AI), new line play, and the living worlds aspect of the game in upcoming information releases. This confirms several foundational aspects of the game have been redone for next-gen, we're excited to find out what it all means in the upcoming weeks.

I couldn't care less what they do to the graphics. XBox/PS3 are still fine for me, this doesn't look like that big a jump.

What I'd like is a CFM that works. No repeating draft class, no white sleeve glitch, player name editing, player progression that makes sense, better draft classes, better CPU logic, etc.......

I'm certain XBoxOne and PS4's CFM will be just as glitchy as it is now.

Surely this is an early build...but no women in the stands? Aside from that, I just don't think the models themselves look very good. However, if they animate and react like this, I'll be happy:

Looks exactly like MLB The Shows crowd on current gen.

Madden player models are quite terrible. I don't care if they're made out of a Quadrillion polygons, they look silly. Skinny bodies, big heads, appendages that seem to always be bent at perfect 90 degree angles, and I would mention how they animate, but that would just be piling on top of Tiburon's legacy of butt fumbles.

So to answer your question, yeah, it can get MUCH realer.

Outside of improved graphics, I wasn't expecting much of a difference between current gen Madden and next gen Madden the first year. That being said, being so close to launch, it's extremely disheartening to watch the next gen video trailer/teaser only to end up listening to them talk about what they can do versus showing us what they can do.

Let's hope future videos provide more proof than pudding (ie gameplay). Fingers crossed.

I expected a little more than better grass and sunlight on skin

I refused to believe that the saints/dolphins video was next get until I noticed the same GIFFy cut-and-paste cameramen on the sidelines. You can clearly see them in the Chris Johnson portion of the trailer.

The difference for me though is that 2k gets the sport better for me. I observe things in 2k that I observe when I'm watching basketball. Madden doesn't have those things. Madden is a decent game, but it's not realistic for me. I notice new wrinkles in the gameplay, nuances that 2k adds every year. Madden I don't get that.

I ain't trynna get this thread closed, so I don't think 2k should be brought up anymore. Last thing I'll say is 2k shouldn't be have to be brought up to defend or to put down Madden. Should be enough ammo for both sides to make their points. If not, it's not worth joining the discussion.

I do. If the crowd bug (where the crowd is half full anytime a game is raining or snowing) is still in the game in Next Gen...I'm gonna lose my mind.

With stadiums all I want is immersion. Cookie cutter sidelines with players wearing jerseys with "09" and players that are on the field magically appearing on the sideline at the same time hurts immersion. Crowds that dont react intelligently hurts immersion. Having a playoff game in GB with a half full crowd because of snow hurts immersion.

Wow. Vent much? Funny how you turned this into an OS bash. This game, and people's disappointment with it, has nothing to do with NBA2k, which made what was considered the biggest one year development jump ever between 11 and 12 by numerous gaming publications, as well as this biased site. That said, I'm going to try and ignore your snarky remark that was made at me and have a civil discourse. For myself, it's not about how wonderful my PC is. It's about how I bought all of the games that David Ortiz hyped, then actually believed that Ian would right the struggling Madden ship. He did, for the most part, with 10. Now I have my own opinion, which is shared by many of my long time friends on here, that Madden goes back to WIP every year. In a search to find itself. To find sales. Funny thing is, it's not even original ideas they try to fix it with. It's borrowed stuff from Fifa, the flagship title. Fifa Ultimate Team is making tons in microtransactions? Let's do it in Madden. Player Impact Engine? Infinity Engine.....

I get that people really love Madden. I used to, as well. But now, I stand by my point that was made. Pretty graphics don't blow me away. Blades of grass, not so much. I see them every day on my high dollar PC. It might impress some, not me. I need major gameplay upgrades to even ponder a buy. Maybe NBA2k or Fifa would make me want to blow 500 for a XBox1, but not what I saw last night. But even with the other two titles, probably not. I'm more than happy with the gameplay, graphics and that they can be heavily modded. So that leaves me looking at this title as a major piece in deciding whether to come back to consoles for gaming. I still have a 360 that works. My two boys play Disney Infinity every day on it. Now I will conceed that it is early in the game, and I do tend to lean towards the past in viewing Tiburon with skepticism. But I feel it is well earned. And so do a lot of the people who went through the last gen fiasco. "Ring Builder" and Ian showing us WR animations that somehow didn't make it in the game. How we all said the running animations that his guys came up with looked more authentic ( and 2k like) and he decided he didn't like them, and changed it back to the same tired ones.

If we seem bitter about Madden, it was earned over many titles. One reason I love OS is that these guys, and myself, as well, LOVE sports games. All sports. This isn't "2k is great and EA SUCKS," contrary to the popular opinion. NBA Live 10 got serious respect here. Fifa is getting love this year, as hard as it is for the PES purists. NHL gets mad love from it's fans. Why? Because they are great games. The Show gets mad love every year here. MLB2k got roundly booed, and rightly so. It was trash. So to the point at hand. This trailer did nothing to show many of us that Madden isn't still the same WIP, mistake of a game that many of us on here feel it has become. Does everyone here share that opinion? No. But it is pretty widespread. Not just here, but even with the major gaming sites. Legacy issues always get mentioned in reviews. Heck, PastaPadre, accused of being the biggest fanboy ever known of Madden, has started throwing barbs at it in his review.

Do I want Madden to fail? Nope. I love football games. And there is one less with NCAA being tanked. But I would like to actually have a good to great football game to play. As of right now, I cannot consider Madden to fit that description. It is decent to mediocre in my book. My book. That's the book that counts..... I'll watch this all unfold, and hope. But so far, meaning this first trailer, I'm still in "meh" mode. I'm over the kool-aid and hero worship. It's on Madden's team to make me want to buy it. And, yes, I get I'm only one sale. But one of the sales they lost. Question really is, do they even care? I think they should. 60 bucks is 60 bucks. They've lost a lot of $60 increments over the last few years. They all count, and they add up to a successful business.

But I get it...some of you just don't like Madden...So i'll repeat myself...Move on cause just like 2K...madden aint changing...I get the feeling though that many folks would rather complain and be unhappy about madden no matter what changes they make. Madden will NEVER be good enough for some of these guys/gals.
The games arent even comparable. The leaps 2k has made in CPU AI, added features (My Player) and presentation in the last 5 yrs are light years past Madden and this is coming from a guy who plays Madden weekly.

The difference for me is if you take 2k14 and just add next gen graphics...most people would be satisfied with that game. Do the same for Madden and most wont be satisfied. The difference is 2k is a better representation of NBA Basketball (with slider tweaks) than Madden is of NFL Football.

Also, stop this rhetoric. Just like most people who defend Madden arent Madden fanboys, the people who want a better game and dont celebrate every small step EA makes arent all people who just like to complain.

Obviously the graphics/details have improved, but pretty meh to be honest.

Look at 1:24 same players robotic movements.
Why is so hard to EA capture real player's motion ???

You want the gameplay to be there, but history says it's highly unlikely with this franchise after 9 seasons of coming up shy in so many areas.

I don't know what to say about this anymore. Just seems like a never-ending cycle with this company.
With each console cycle, the jump will be less and less in terms of graphics. It is like the transition from VHS to DVD to Blu-Ray.

For me, all I want is fluid and natural movements. PS2 and original Xbox madden and 2k both had extremely smooth and fluid movements. Why is Madden this gen and next gen plagued with these horrible robotic clunky animations? Add to the fact that they are the ONLY sports game that have these horrible ridiculous animations!

Watching that trailer a couple times now, i'm pretty underwhelmed. Besides the lighting in a couple of those shots as well as the stadium overviews, the game looks pretty identical to the current generation version of Madden.

Madden has looks pretty good on the current generation of hardware, finally seeing this trailer it didn't pop out as much as going from 06 on xbox to 06 on 360 at least not graphically to me.

Now the biggest problem Madden has, has always been animations and fluidity. We can't deduce too much from that video since it was a lot of quick cuts to different players and motions, but from the little we saw, there wasn't a big difference from this current gen Madden. I'm pretty underwhelmed at this reveal, I was expecting a bit more and sort of watched it and went, "that's it?."

Right now the Xbox One version of Madden is at the bottom of my game Q from Gamefly

Maybe it's just me, but I didn't expect a complete overhaul with the first game out of the gate.

In short, what I would expect is lots of improvements that will have people saying "when they get another year or two to really nail this down, this game is going to be fantastic."
