"Today I am sad to announce that we will not be publishing a new college football game next year, and we are evaluating our plan for the future of the franchise. This is as profoundly disappointing to the people who make this game as I expect it will be for the millions who enjoy playing it each year. I’d like to explain a couple of the factors that brought us to this decision.
We have been stuck in the middle of a dispute between the NCAA and student-athletes who seek compensation for playing college football. Just like companies that broadcast college games and those that provide equipment and apparel, we follow rules that are set by the NCAA – but those rules are being challenged by some student-athletes. For our part, we are working to settle the lawsuits with the student-athletes. Meanwhile, the NCAA and a number of conferences have withdrawn their support of our game. The ongoing legal issues combined with increased questions surrounding schools and conferences have left us in a difficult position – one that challenges our ability to deliver an authentic sports experience, which is the very foundation of EA SPORTS games.
At EA SPORTS, college football has always been a labor of love, and it is unfortunate that these business and legal issues have impacted our ability to make next year’s game. This franchise has been developed by a team that is deeply committed to the tradition and culture of this sport – that’s why fans have always loved it. We are working to retain the talented people who are part of the team by placing them elsewhere within the EA SPORTS organization.
In the meantime, we will continue to be connected and engaged with our fans who are playing EA SPORTS NCAA Football. Our decision does not affect our commitment to NCAA Football 14 and the consumers who love playing the game."
Servers for OD are expected to stay up through college football season, and will likely be coming down in January. After January, no more online dynasty.
NFL football needs to set up a minor league system. If you want to make $25K or $50K out of HS without going to 4 yrs of college, go to the minor leagues like baseball or the D-League like basketball.
Who cares!! the game suck anyway. Just be thankful that someone is looking out for those of you who continue to waste your money on this crap! of a football game. Players flopping all over the place, crowd still shot in 16 bit, sideline players look like card board boxes, coaches move like zombies, players are stiff and slide all over the place, every player is the same, does the same, commentators suck!!. I can go on and on. This game should have been cancelled long time ago along with madden but because some continue to waste 60 bucks for crap, EA continue to get paid for doing absolutely nothing.
Yea well thanks for lookin out for me and how I choose to spend my money. You are dismissed. Oh and Ed O' Bannon, enjoy your legacy as not only an overhyped basketball player that failed in the NBA,but also the man that shut down "all" college sports video games.
yeah, because there is no other choice. what if there was a nfl development league where players got paid? even if it is just a fraction of an nfl salary. think the college game would be around for long? dont think so.
Because their free housing, food, education, etc is just sooooo bad
Why do people think college athletes should get paid? They are paid, by their scholarships and everything that comes with it.
The benefits they receive are worth over double the amount of minimum wage. And if they don't go pro, they are getting a free education in what ever field they choose. They aren't saddled with student loans, ect. They can complain all they want they are getting a ton for these scholarships. It's they fault they don't take full advantage of their education.
If I make my company a couple more million a year, they aren't giving me any of it, they are paying me to do my job. Same goes with college athletes, they are getting paid in form of an education.
Honestly I feel outright compensation shouldn't occur but revoking some of the policies such as not allowing an athlete to use their own likeness to make money. That should be allowed and it could free up some extra money for them for things like food and extras.
I do agree with you, but there's a recent movement in the NCAA and NFL that keeps trying to say 'its not enough'.
Outright compensation will completely kill collegiate athletics.
This case is not about doing 'whats right'.
It's about two men who chose the easy path through college, had no career options and opted to sue under the guise of being a 'holy crusader'. The NCAA is shady, but so is O'Bannon/Keller.
If college athletes want to get paid, go ahead pay them. However, end all athletic scholarships and allow them to earn their education. I would like to see how long players will still be yelling about how a free education is "not enough"... This is what happens in society when we encourage the ENTITLEMENT MENTALITY...
It is somewhat disappointing, but not as bad as people are making it to be. NCAA 14 is a very good game that can be fresh for a very long time due to the people on this forum who make rosters and sliders improving the game. For the time being, 14 will be fine. But once everyone has gotten used to the next-gen graphics and power of the new consoles, it's fresh-ness will run out. CH2k8 was a great game that is still great even today. I believe this game could go the same way.
Well to be fair guys have been editing stuff with rosters and certain settings in tuners for the past two editions now.
Yeah, thats what keeps giving me hope.

Is there a source for this? My biggest concern was this, as my dynasty is an OD, single person however. If this is a fact, i cant really see proceeding much further with it, and if i have the interest i might just be as well off starting a new one.
There re is no possibility of converting to offline now is there?

You're posting this as if it's fact. Where's a link with proof?
Because their free housing, food, education, etc is just sooooo bad
what does that have to do with creating a development league? you act like a free education means something to high caliber players. they don't go to school for the same reason as regular students. just pay them $50-$75K a year let them set up their own living arraignments, offer them free food during the season just like the nfl.

I've always been a proponent of players not being paid. However, I think I've finally seen the light, but with one caveat.
Pay the players, but if they get caught and it's proven that they took 1 cent from an booster or agent, then they have to pay back the entire cost of their scholarship.
Because the scholarship argument is a crock of ****, AND the NCAA prohibits them from seeking pretty much any sort of employment.
Ignoring the cost of education, the vast majority of these players wouldn't be able to get into colleges if it weren't for football, and they probably shouldn't anyway. We don't need thousands of new communications undergrads every year. It doesn't help them, and it doesn't help the country in general. The scholarships are utterly worthless in many cases.
There is no free market here. If you feel your company isn't compensating you enough for what you generate, you can find employment in the same field for a better deal. College athletes can't do that. Hell, college athletes can't even get the second job you can get.
The issue here isn't so much that the NCAA or schools aren't paying the players, it's that the NCAA is actively prohibiting the players from being paid by anyone for anything.
If they want to waste their free education, that's their own fault. Not the NCAA's.
Which is besides the free housing, food, clothing, and everything else that comes with the scholarship.
But hey, if the scholarship is so worthless, why hand them out. Let them have a job let them pay their own way through college like the vast majority of us. Then we'll see how "worthless" those scholarships are.
These kids have two options when they graduate. Either they will make a ton of money playing sports professionally, or they will enter the job market, debt free, with a valuable college degree in hand.

They shouldnt be complaining. They get enough as it is. That was my point.
Football isnt like baseball or even basketball. A kid just out of high school is most likely going to get seriously hurt, even at a minor league level. As an example, remember, not all MLB minor leaguers are guys in their early twenties. You're going to be sticking kids against fully grown men. It wont end well.
