"Today I am sad to announce that we will not be publishing a new college football game next year, and we are evaluating our plan for the future of the franchise. This is as profoundly disappointing to the people who make this game as I expect it will be for the millions who enjoy playing it each year. I’d like to explain a couple of the factors that brought us to this decision.
We have been stuck in the middle of a dispute between the NCAA and student-athletes who seek compensation for playing college football. Just like companies that broadcast college games and those that provide equipment and apparel, we follow rules that are set by the NCAA – but those rules are being challenged by some student-athletes. For our part, we are working to settle the lawsuits with the student-athletes. Meanwhile, the NCAA and a number of conferences have withdrawn their support of our game. The ongoing legal issues combined with increased questions surrounding schools and conferences have left us in a difficult position – one that challenges our ability to deliver an authentic sports experience, which is the very foundation of EA SPORTS games.
At EA SPORTS, college football has always been a labor of love, and it is unfortunate that these business and legal issues have impacted our ability to make next year’s game. This franchise has been developed by a team that is deeply committed to the tradition and culture of this sport – that’s why fans have always loved it. We are working to retain the talented people who are part of the team by placing them elsewhere within the EA SPORTS organization.
In the meantime, we will continue to be connected and engaged with our fans who are playing EA SPORTS NCAA Football. Our decision does not affect our commitment to NCAA Football 14 and the consumers who love playing the game."
I've bought and played every single EA college game ever made and this is truly the end of an era. I'm going to milk the mess out of this game with the editor like nobodies business. No need for me to buy a next gen system for a long while if ever! This might be it for me in the gaming industry.
you guys better enjoy madden this year, there is a guy in the stands in soldier field behind the right goal post, he looks like me,they are using my likeness,Ill SUE
Well does that mean Ben will be canned? If so, maybe he can start up his own franchise of the game. Sad Sad day. Since I have the game on ps3, will there be a downloadable version on the ps4 so we can still play Ncaa 14. I really was hoping of dumping my ps3.
A very dark day for millions of gamers. A few greedy individuals trying to make a quick buck have killed this series and probably any hope of ever seeing an authentic college sports game. Really don't know what else I can say within the TOS.
This sucks. Hopefully down the line (3,4,5 years, whatever it takes) things will get sorted out and we'll get NCAA football back.... But then again who knows. Sad day.
Maybe we'll see an additional patch or two for this last version.
I'm just hoping Madden 15 will take a page from NBA2K's book and add in editable draft classes. Would allow us to create the next crop of rookies and have them be able to be drafted into Madden.
Would also like EA to end with a bang for NCAA 14. Maybe give us a DLC playoff game mode, give us every uniform used for every team this year, give us a patch that includes App State, GA Southern, Charlotte and possibly give us the FCS teams with just random, generic rosters. All of this is definitely wishful thinking, but wouldn't that be great if EA ended the NCAA Series with a bang.
I still dont understand why they couldn't just make the rosters random from the get go and do not give the option to edit players, this would kill the issue at hand. I really don't care what players are on what team at the start, by year four all the names are gone. Sad day indeed.
The one positive I can think of in this situation is like others have said, At least now I'll be able to go deeper than ever in a dynasty.
Yep.
That's one thing that I "liked" about CH 2K8's discontinuation. I would have never made it 20 years into dynasty (playing every single game), otherwise. Hell, I'm still playing it (though I've not played the game in a few months).
Yep, this was the logical next domino in light of recent events...

From the thread about the B1G and PAC-12 dropping out (a month ago)....so now we have no college sports games, one NFL game, one NBA game, one hockey game, and depending on your system of choice, 2 or 1 (effectively zero this year) baseball games. Has there been less variety/choice in the sports gaming world since the days of the original NES???
As much as I disliked the way EA football played out on the field, I was hoping for another product to compete with it, not for the only one we had to go away.
Good thing the non-sports games keep getting better and better to fill the void.
I guess this would explain why EA was so quiet this year when it came to patches and why there has been only one patch. I always thought the quietness this year was strange, because normally would be marketing upcoming patches weeks before they even came out. This year, silence. Now we know why.
I do feel sorry for all those NCAA dev team guys who will get fired though. Because lets face it, Madden team is already large, so there really isn't any room for ALL of them to get transferred over there. I am kind of bummed out though there won't be any college sports next gen. Damn shame, the possibilities on next gen was endless.
Maybe EA will get back into baseball games now I guess.
I wonder if they just agreed to stop making the game for a year or two?
Would work out for them in creating a next gen version (sitting out next year), but the articles I've seen makes it seem like that they have to disband the team.
Not sure it's coming back soon or not. Either way I just got this year's now lol
I knew it was coming but was hoping the game could survive without the conference logos.
Guess that will not be the case.
This sucks.
This is the only game I play or buy. Been playing this since Bill Walsh days. Heck, I'm 36 now and look forward to this game. I'm probably too old to be playing this game anyways but oh well I love it.
The only positive is that I will get to go through a 60 year dynasty on this thing.
