CPU AI: I swear every time I read one of these previews for a new NBA 2K game, the author is talking about how the CPU is so realistic and how each team plays like it does in real life. For the first time, I honestly feel like this year that statement is completely true. There are several examples I noticed:
Rockets v. Lakers - The AI consistently looks for Howard in the post, Lin in the pick and roll and Harden on Isos and pick and rolls. Shooters like Parsons hang out on the perimeter waiting for kick outs by Harden and Lin off picks. Houston also shoots a ton of threes like in real life. Cavs v. Wizards – Irving absolutely destroyed me with the pick and roll(40 points and a game winning layup) but he didn’t ball hog. CPU ran several post plays for Bennett and Bynum. Waiters also got a few touches but he struggled in the game. Grizzlies v. Thunder – CPU looks for Randolph and Gasol consistently in the post. Randolph plays like he does in real life. For example, he went to work in the post on two straight possessions. One ended with a baby hook in the lane. The second was him pivoting to face up Ibaka and sinking a 17ft jumper in his face.
Thanks for the early write up, especially since there does not appear to be a demo this year. Gameplay and online is my thing so here are two questions.
1. Were you able to play any user vs user matches either online or local and does there appear to be any easily cheesable play/animations/players?
2. Can you play Classic teams online this year against someone other then a friend? That was terrible for me last year as in 2k12 I spent the majority of my time playing online ranked classic matchups.
A question I have is about the classic teams rosters. I know current teams playbooks have been updated and there tendencies/ratings will be updated by STATS inc,but this I'm sure will not be the case for the classic teams. Has the classic teams playbooks been updated, and have there ratings and tendencies been updated to be more realistic and true to life (how they really played) compared to how they were in 2K13?
The classic teams plays were not updated so they will not have all the improvements of current team plays with very few exceptions.

1. No.
2. No, as I said online isnt really available right now.
Has the effectiveness of " auto shot contest" been dramatically turned down in favor or more active defense by users? In 2k13 it was overboard causing jumpers to miss at an unrealistic rate
FYI, I'm at work now guys so I wont be able to access the game until this afternoon. If I skip your question, I'll try to get get back to it when I get home.
Another thing: Asking questions comparing to 2k13 (like new haircuts in My player) is going to be difficult to answer. I know longer have 2k13 and I dont remember how many haircuts were in 2k13 so proving a comparison wont happen.

Tough to tell for a couple of reasons. One, I play with real player % for shots so while defense plays a role in whether a shot is made...its not as drastic as if i was playing with timed shooting. With that said, I've made several shots with a hand in my face and all of them have been realistic and didnt feel cheesy.
I couldnt disagree more. It was so bad that I paused the game, went to instant replay, closed in on his face and pulled up a photo of Chris Paul on my ipad. They looked nothing alike.
Hey aholbert, just a thought, but why no open a Q&A thread and leave this for impressions. I'm assuming some will starting showing up with the game soon.
A little hard and I'm not sure I'm a fan. I'm not a shot stick guy. I never have been and never will be. I just want to use the right stick for dribbling but because of the controls and the fact I cant change them, I every once in a while will attempt a shot when I'm trying to do a dribble move. It happens very rare and it could be user error but I'm not a fan.
I could've sworn Mike or Rob said that there was an option to use one of the older control schemes.
Thanks for the preview. This was very helpful for a guy that will not be making the move to PS4/Xbox One this year.
Create-A-Player, for example, is exactly the same as last year, with no new hairstyles or tattoos or accessories. Oh wait: Now there’s a wristband with “I Promise” written on it because LeBron wears them (prominently so in the opening cinematic). It might seem minor, but I am sick to death of “The Patch” hairstyle (which Drew Gooden invented and hasn’t had since 2007). Player style needs a good freshening up.
Yep so no players model updated besides Lebron and rookies, no new hairstyles lol don't see myself playing my career mode this year. My team till the end.
But are their any new classic teams added? And did they remove the kings because without webber why even have them truthfully
No new classic teams. I swear I saw the Kings last night but I need to double check.
When you get to play the game again could you try and run some pick'n'pop with mid range bigs (KG, Gasol, West, Bass etc) and see how far they tend to fade? See if they tend to go too far close or beyond the 3pt line.
I'am really hoping they fixed that. It really needs to be tighter. They shouldn't be taking like 8 sidesteps.
