First pre-season game St. Louis takes back to back 5:00 charging penalties. Scored 4 PP goals in that span. Felt good.

Death comes for us all, Twigs 69, but something much worse comes for you.

For when you die, it will be...

...without honor.

I was at the flames habs game last night, saw at least 5 promos on the big screen. The Calgary Flames 3rd Jersey will be unveiled October 27th.

Just had another enjoyable Play Now game as the Panthers against the Lightning for the battle of Florida.

I ended up winning 6-3.
I don't know if the tuner has anything to do with what I saw today. I don't play a lot (maybe 3 or 4 games a week), but the Lightning got called for a lot of interference and slashing penalties.
I went 2-for-5 on the PP, while the Lightning went 1-2 on theres.

It was a very enjoyable game and I've really noticed a big difference between premier netminders. Lindback let in a lot of soft ones. Especially from the side of the net.

Barkov was cool to control and Huberdeau was threading needles all game.

Every game feels different and I love how a player like Duchesne feels compared to a Mathias.

I've enjoyed this game so far. Really disliked 13, not sure what it is about 14 but I am really enjoying it.

Few minor things wearing me out like the cpu pinning me when I'm skating full speed behind the net and they can stop me dead nuts but I seem to bumble behind them trying to pin them.

I just played a Be a GM Game. I use the Bruins and when my Thornton line came out I decided to try to work the corners.....+2 for those guys tonight! I do think the tuner helped as I used to play the same with them as I would with Bergeron and be fine. Big difference betweek Rask and Khudobin too.

Like I said, few irksome things, one big one is that whenever I put Chara on the RW on the Powerplay, once the puck drops he skates out of the zone to the bench and keeps skating into it. Wears me out.

Too easy to hit open nets when goalie gets pulled.

All in all, played a lot, really enjoying it. Looking forward to playing later on in my Be a GM.

That's bothered me since they introduced pinning in this game.
I've gotten frustrated going into the corner with speed, have the angle on the defender, and I get sucked into a pin animation.

I've learned to live with it, but for next-gen, I really hope they make this more realistic.

I agree. I figured out that holding puck protect "A" on 360 sometimes helps you slide by without being pinned. But I rarely think of it when I'm at Mach 3 taking the corner and the dman is flat-footed.......but he gets me. "A" helps though.

All in all, enjoying myself. I put broken sticks way up to add variety to the game......very stressful when you're facing Ovi and your stick breaks on a clearing attempt in the dzone. Now we're talking.

Just happened last game. Chara clearing attempt on the PK, broke his stick, Seguin gives him his but not for about 5 stressful seconds, but they have possession and the top of my pk box stickless.............FUN (we did kill thanks to Khudobin's big save.....oh ya, like the assistant coach playing my backup because I never think of it)

I am enjoying the game but I hate when a puck is dumped in and it bounces around like a rubber ball. It happens to bounce over my stick most the time and always leads to the cpu getting it and usually a goal.

# 190 bad_philanthropy @ 10/17/13 09:24 PM
The bouncy puck on dump ins is ridiculous. Come on EA this is a silly tweak. Give the puck its weight back on dump in and work on forechecking AI.

# 191 Simaofan-20 @ 10/21/13 10:08 AM
I'm also noticing some more issues with the game, goalies just let in 5 hole goals from the blue line and not screened. I don't understand how this is such an issue where goalies give up trying to make a save on the 5 hole.

# 192 Cletus @ 10/21/13 12:06 PM
I don't mind the bouncy puck so much, sometimes it's actually funny to see it rolling then hit a trampoline and fly a foot or two in the air. EA should use the puck physics on a remake of Mutant League Hockey. Imagine a Moon Arena!

Just got this game this weekend after playing NHL 11 since its release. I needed an update.

Man, I wasn't expecting this. It's definitely more realistic, but after a few games, the fun isn't as much there. The new skating engine definitely works, but man it can be clunky at times. It seems almost like it's too real for its own good.

I definitely need to adjust. I'm getting an NHL 2k10 vibe. I really liked that game, it had amazing moments but a lot of frustration too as players skated out of position or didn't transition well enough.

I must be getting older. I enjoy true to life stats, but I've found myself enjoying a faster paced game, sim style be damned. I believe I had the CPU mostly figured out on NHL 11 and they're smarter now/aren't as easily exploited.

I need more time, but I needed to vent a little bit of my frustrations. I wanted to jump right in and be addicted like I was with NHL 11, but it hasn't happened yet. I'm going to have to relearn the game, relearn my strategies and fine tune my sliders and settings.

Can't wait for it all to click, because I see the potential in this game. I wanna play it for three years like I did with NHL 11.

# 194 slickdtc @ 10/23/13 05:35 PM
I definitely see that. I know with time, I could get into this game. If you caught me in the mid-2000's, I would love this game. But now, I want to pop it in and hit things and score goals. The de-evolution of my wants for a hockey game.

It's just too clunky for me. It almost seems laggy. I want my stop and turn on a dime back!

I think I'm going to return it and buy either NHL 11 back or NHL 12. I wish I still had all my franchise progress. Ugh, shouldn't have sold it in the first place. I thought there was no way I wouldn't instantly love NHL 14, but here I am. Well, it was a good test to see just how my tastes have changed. Now I know how all those old men felt back in the mid-2000's when the EA NHL and NHL2k rivalry was at its peak. Lol

# 195 slickdtc @ 10/27/13 10:48 AM
So I ended up getting NHL 12. And I know this isn't the exact place, but I have to vent.

This game is damn fun, a much tighter version of NHL 11. But holy cow, the bugs/flaws are annoying! Lag, settings not saving, at times it feels like the CPU takes control of my players... It's like I'm playing an old NHL 2k game. Nothing game crippling, but it's gonna forever piss me off as long as I have this game. Thank goodness I really dig the gameplay otherwise I'd say I was on the money with sticking with NHL 11 so long. If I hadn't lost my data and the Flyers didn't overturn their whole roster in the past few years, I'd probably go get NHL 11 back. Alas...

I'm enjoying the game so far, I'm playing as Calgary so I suck because i have a crappy team but I like the challenge. I feel the game kind has super goalies this year, my team could let in 1 or 2 goals but I can't get anything past any goalie on any team, I've had a few bright moments but it's tough, still trying to tinker with sliders to get the balance I'm looking for.

I did some digging because I really want to use the flames 3rd jersey. EA can't release the jersey code until the sabres do a official unveil of their crappy 3rd jerseys, I found this article http://sports.yahoo.com/blogs/nhl-pu...6078--nhl.html

Basically it says sabres will wear their 3rds vs. detroit on the 24th of this month which is 8 days away, from what I understand once that happens EA can release the code, who knows if thats the case but at least now we have a date for the sabres 3rd.

After two months of trying to get the game to play how I want it to(mostly sim), I think as of right now- I'm done with it.

I don't need, nor do I expect the game to be a 100% replication of the real life game. At times though I really wonder if EA's development team even ever played hockey(I know Littmans background), or even watch the intricies of the game.

The game has so many little things that annoy me- from not having penalties called consistently(if at all), to the mind numbingly dumb teammate and opposing CPU AI, to the puck physics, the random CPU strategy adjustment that every team has on the fly to keep games close. Every game for me feels the same no matter which two teams I use.

It's a host of things. I hope and am happy some of you enjoy it. It's just not my cup of tea. It really saddens me as a huge hockey fan that this is all we have.
More so when you look at how great other sports games are right now with their total packages(MLB: TS, FIFA, and NBA2k specifically). Baseball is the only other sport besides hockey that I truly love, so it looks like it is going to get almost all my free gaming time now.

NHL is just too inconsistent, and two flawed for me to even bother with it.

Pro's-
I like the skating
The controls are great
Online plays relatively smooth
HUT is fun in terms of building a team

Con's
AI is awful all around
Sliders seem to do little to nothing most of the time
Puck physics
Presentation is awful
Player faces are laughable at times
Hate the actual gameplay in HUT
The game is just stale, stale, stale

Summary-
I hope EA realizes they need a major overhaul for next gen systems, though I have my doubts much, in anything I dislike about the game will be addressed.

Much better than '13. The magical sucking your player into the boards is annoying. As is a defender turning his back and skating away from the rebound. But you get used to it and play accordingly. If anything, it keeps me on my toes a little more. After some experimentation with the sliders I've found a balance that suits the way I play as well as my skill level and yields realistic stats and fun game play. The goals usually feel earned and mistakes are punished (harshly on defense). I also like that unlike previous years occasionally I can dominate the flow of play and still get stymied by a hot net minder and visa versa. I've had wide open shoot outs and grind it out defensive struggles and the occasional blowout. Are there shortcomings, for sure. But for me at least this is much better than '13.

Hello, please help. I haven't played since nhl2012. I only play offline GM,
With the problems I have read on here regarding player progression, would I be better off getting 2013 since I cannot get the updates from xbox live ?
or is there a way to get the 2014 updates without xbox live. Thanks in advance, i am an older guy and only like the gm mode on the games . I do not know which one i should get. Is the 2014 game off the shelf any good as far as GM and prospect progression?

Another thing that drives me crazy is why even bother having offensive and defensive setups, plays, and strategies if the CPU AI can't account for it/them almost all of time?

This literally drives me up a tree. It seems like such a waste to even bother having them in the game if the AI doesn't know what to do.
