1) It's a violation of NHL rules. In a real game of hockey, the center would get kicked out of the face off circle. Then the guy who replaces him would get a minor penalty if he drew early again.

2) It's taking advantage of lag. A player who constantly spams the faceoff animation is going to have his input register first compared to a player who waits to draw based on what he sees on his screen.

The easiest way to tell if a guy is face off spamming you is when your opponent looks like he is having a seizure in the face off circle. Moving all over the place, shaking, switch hands, etc. It's pretty obvious.

I've played center exclusively since EASHL/OTP was introduced in NHL 09. I consider myself a very good center in this game the past few games I averaged around 70% face off wins. But when you run into a moron who face off spams you, it's probably the most infuriating thing for a center man who tries to play legit.

Funny how the developers said you would be at a significant disadvantage if you didn't choose your hand in the face off circle, yet you can still face off spam with ease.

I'm predicting a return of super goalies. Just seems like shooting percentages are through the roof. Just played 4 games online and managed to score 7 or more in each. Now I wasn't playing the best of competition, but even my opponent managed to put up multiple goals on significantly fewer shots. Off the top of my head, the last game I had 7 goals on 32 shots and my opponent managed to get 5 on 15 against Price

I really hope I'm wrong because it's nice to be able to score on one timers again this year.

I also hate that poke checks once again cancel shots. Now I'm not saying I should be able to shoot through sticks. I just wish the puck would deflect instead of stopping like the Bridgestone commercial.

They need to tune the hitting down a few notches. Guys are falling at a ridiculous clip. A guy squares me up. I expect to loose the puck, but he doesn't need to cripple every single time.

EA has been releasing new tuners though during the early release. I started playing Thursday and I believe there have already been 3 different sets. I think they bumped up penalties. I played a game and had 36 PIM's and only one was my own doing. The CPU was running around just running people without the puck. Needless to say that was pretty annoying since my opponent had a 5-3 for about 10 minutes.

They did add Scott Hartnell's hair though so that's cool.

Well, I had chalked up my defence's ineptitude to the fact that I was playing in the OHL with the Petes, I kept telling myself it was junior hockey, and that I can't expect them to play at an NHL level. However, it's just as bad at the NHL level. EA has this problem with the single player mode, like the person NEEDS to be on ice for something to happen. 4 goals(either way) will happen while I'm on the ice, and ONE when I'm off(I'm on the 3rd line!).

Defense really needs to be fixed, the computer players can just waltz in front of goal with little(read: no) resistance, which leads to obscenely easy chances on net. Not only that, they make the dumbest plays with the puck. I'm pinned against the boards? I should pass it to the other side of the ice, not to my teammate standing 24 inches away from me. They constantly will pass the puck in front of the net, leading to easy interceptions and even easier goals. In all honesty, it's a wonder these virtual players on my team don't manage to kill themselves just getting out of virtual bed every virtual morning. This needs to be addressed, badly.

Yeah, the defencemen's poor decision making makes Live the Life completely unplayable. I don't understand why EA makes the BaP gameplay different from the regular gameplay, regular gameplay with Position lock, I've had none of these issues, only in BaP. Two straight goals because instead of passing to a teammate, the defencemen decided to pass directly in front of the goalie, to no one's surprise, a member of the opposing team. It's like EA doesn't even want my $60, I was so ready to buy this game, and not look back, not so much anymore.

# 66 onlybygrace @ 09/08/13 02:00 PM
Yeah Be a Pro or whatever has always had these issues...always!!! I gave up on that mode years ago...not sure why anyone plays it knowing its glaring shortcomings. Really, online play or Be-A-GM and Season Mode are the only playable modes...well Play Now also.

But yeah, Live The Life is perpetually flawed.

# 67 CanuckJ @ 09/08/13 03:18 PM
Is season mode still only 1 season long? I'm thinking yes but would like to know for sure, I only play Be a GM over season mode cause I get more than 1 season with BAG.

The skating is a lot better overall then NHL 13

The goalies are a little weak especially on goalline. Players can still shot top corner with no problems.

Wrap can be scored at a higher rate with goalies being so weak.

Goalie will need to be moving around more to make better saves from what I am hearing

I am guessing we will need to build our player up before we can actually see a difference in the game.

# 69 cromags21 @ 09/08/13 05:37 PM
But again, Just wait for EA to make tuners for the game. 1st one should be right after the release on Tuesday.

All the early released players will complain about something lol

# 70 jyoung @ 09/08/13 05:57 PM
Actually, there's already been about three different tuner sets released since I downloaded the game Friday afternoon.

boosting is completely ruining this game... its making it no fun and anyone who boosts can penetrate themselves with something hard and sand-papery...

that ends the rant... now for business

I need a utility fwd for a club with people ive been playing with for years. this person would mainly play C but could play wing as well... need it asap so message on psn @ ccurtis3974 and ill try you out. it would be a bonus if you played D as well.. thanks.

# 72 jyoung @ 09/08/13 06:25 PM
The boosts can't take you past any of the attribute caps, so it won't be an issue once everyone gets their legend cards.

They give you a head start, but that's about it.

# 73 Drakar @ 09/08/13 10:11 PM
It looks like EA is still hating Be a pro Goalie. To go from Amateur 1 to Amateur 2 we still have that ridiculous requirement of .90 save % and 3.00 GAA. Its freaking impossible to unlock any card as a goalie unless you are an HOF goalie every single game. Even with the sliders done in my favor. You cannot stop the CPU from scoring in the 3rd period. You can be perfectly position and the puck still finds the way to get in. It is so frustrating. I don't know why I keep setting myself up for torture every single year.

End of rant.

# 74 franch1se @ 09/08/13 11:21 PM
I've noticed every time I've gotten in a fight (when the cpu charges after me) they always end up on the power play.

The game feels smoother than 13 imo. I'm liking it so far.

Luckily those who are boosting will be able to start fresh again on tuesday, when EA resets all of their stats.

They didn't last year.

So I've put about 40+ games into EASHL playing a mix of 2v2 and 3v3. In NHL 13 I put in over 1500 games in the EASHL mode. I take pride in passing the puck around, cycling, and playing good defense. Needless to say I'm moving my pre-order from NHL 14 and paying off GTA5.

One of my pet peeves in NHL 13 was the amount of breakaways and the goals that people would score from doing the same lame deke every time. Now I know no one has their legend 3 cards yet but the defenders do play way better. The reason they do play better though is the fact that they shoot literally everything that you pass to them. They'll never turn it over at the point because they'll never hold it there. Most times you can't even call for the puck because they've already fired it into the massive piles of bodies in front of the net. The game now rewards the players who don't pass it. The players who just circle around and throw a pass across the slot every single time are going to keep on doing it.

To me it's just not worth it to spend 60 dollars on a game that really isn't that big of an upgrade, and in my eyes is more of a step back. The "Enforcer Engine" is garbage. If someone want's to make a player 5'7" with no balance I'm going to destroy him with my player who is 6'2" 215lbs. I shouldn't have to fight just because I smoked him with a clean hit. It's stupid and takes away from the game.

Priority number one for next gen should be an overhaul of the AI system. Every player plays exactly the same. The defenders always sit back and the forwards skate to the outside while entering the zone. Then they proceed to play keep away until you finally chase them because sitting in the slot blocking awful shots is dreadfully boring.

Yeah I wouldn't bet on them resetting the stats. I don't think they've done it with any of the season ticket games. I know they didn't do it with NHL 13.

Well, my fears have come true, this is an arcade game. I've played since the original and online since 09. This year there are many problems; Too many awful rebound goals, unbalanced AI, inability to set up plays, passing, the wrap glitch. This game rewards awful players and feels swimmy. The animation takes priority, speed is lacking, and passing is impossible. AI make passes to no one when you don't call for it. Hot Garbage.

I have some mixed feelings. Firstly, I read in the EA forums that the legendary commentary duo's contract was up and theyd be out for this years game ... boy was that misinformation. Despite being one of the highest voted changes players wanted to happen in nhl 14, they still havent done it. I literally cant listen to these guys anymore.

The hitting is better, I love how size makes a difference now. All in all though, it is definitely not worth the full price. This is a very minor upgrade from last year's game imo. Everything looks the same, everything feels the same, just with some minor enhancements. The way the miraculous comebacks are handled is really just cosmetic. I'm cancelling my preorder and waiting for the first real next-gen installment.
