NBA 2K13 News Post

The NBA 2K13 patch has arrived for PS3 and 360. The details on the patch haven't been released yet, but we'll update this post as soon as they are available.

UPDATE: NBA 2K13 Patch Details

GAMEPLAY
  • Improved AI rebounding logic to balance out offensive rebound frequency.
  • Tuned AI transition defense; users will now have more fast break opportunities against the CPU. Additionally, CPU teammates are now more able to guard their opponents on the break.
  • Long range passes are now less accurate and will result in more fumbled and missed catches.
  • Passing successfully out of a double team has been tuned to be slightly more difficult.
  • Tuned the logic behind Charging calls so that they are properly called. Charges will now sometimes be called when the defender is in position and stationary, even if he is not in the “Take Charge” animation.
  • Tuned timing on block animations, and made the AI more vigilant about blocking layups and dunks.
  • Improved reach-in foul detection when defender continually swipes at the ball, results in more called fouls where appropriate.
  • AI now only calls for a full court press in appropriate situations (i.e. late in the game).
  • Addressed two dunk animations that were not counting for a score when they were converted.
  • Fixed an issue where Replay would show the incorrect play, rather than what actually happened on the court.
  • AI positioning when running plays has been tuned so that big men with limited shooting range will not move further away from the basket than what their range allows.
  • AI teammates will now remain in the Post Up position longer when a Quick Post play is called for them.
  • Tuned alley-oop and putback dunks such that only players who have a high tendency to perform either move are able to finish with one.
  • Removed the restrictions for the ‘Microwave’ Signature Skill such that it now works regardless of whether you are already on a hot or cold streak.
  • When a block is recorded for a player with the ‘Eraser’ Signature Skill, only the shooting attributes of the blocked player are lowered.
  • Fixed a rare issue where a traveling violation would be called on a pass fake.
  • Referee Review on last shot will no longer play if the shot has no effect on the outcome of the game.
  • A number of other smaller changes have been made to address issues and enhance the user experience.
  • Tuned three-point percentage.
GENERAL
  • NIKEiD shoes will now appear properly in-game after being equipped to a player.
  • Addressed an issue where the game score would disappear in Blacktop games when Signature Highlights were viewed in the pause menu.
  • Fixed an issue where Free Throw Feedback would no longer appear in games after playing an Online MyTEAM game.
  • Addressed an issue in Online MyTEAM games where the away team player would have the Signature Skills of the home team player if identical players were used in the game by both players.
  • Music will no longer be disabled and Game Settings will no longer revert back to Default when completing an online game in MyTEAM.
  • Changed the difficulty settings for all of the seeds in MyTEAM.
  • (360) Addressed a Kinect issue where a misleading overlay would appear when a timeout was called through a voice command when no timeouts were remaining.
MyCAREER
  • Added additional warning re: conversion of an online MyCAREER (one that earns VC) to an offline MyCAREER (one that earns Skill Points).
  • Fixed an issue where the remainder of the user’s schedule would appear empty after participating in the various All-Star Weekend events. This change also carries over to Association/Season modes.
  • ‘Run Plays’ and ‘PlayVision’ should now function properly (when activated), regardless of your MyPLAYER’s position.
  • Fixed an issue where all games in October would be simulated when ‘Play Next Game’ is selected after the start of a new season.
  • Users playing MyCAREERs that accrue Skill Points will no longer find themselves with negative skill points after played games (where a number of unlikely conditions were all met).
  • Addressed a rare hang that would occur if the “Defend Your Home Court” billboard commercial would play between quarters of the Rising Stars Challenge or All-Star game.
  • Addressed a number of issues with the Social Media feature, including one where the news feed would stop updating completely.
  • When changing teams via free agency in the offseason, your MyPLAYER will now receive the proper role (starter, sixth man, etc.) that was promised during the contract negotiation.
  • You will no longer fail the Dynamic Goal “Give your team the lead before the game ends” when subbed out before the end of the game.
  • The Teammate Chemistry rating on the “Play Next Game” loading screen should now display the correct value (as seen in the Social Media menu).
  • The volume of the menu music and sound effects will no longer become extremely quiet after playing consecutive games in MyCAREER.
ASSOCIATION
  • 3PT Tendency progression logic has been rewritten to correctly model the growth variances within each player type in the game. This change also carries over to MyCAREER mode.
  • Users will no longer lose their Scouting Reports after viewing the Recent Games tab of a player card.
  • Birth years can now be set to later than 1993 when editing Draft Classes after the first season of Association.
  • Addressed a rare hang that would occur when attempting to participate in the Dunk Contest with a created player assigned to a created team.
  • (Association: Online) Offense and Defense options should now save properly when using the Total Sim Control feature.
  • (Association: Online) Admins will now have access to appropriate Commissioner Tools during the offseason.
NOTE: All patch fixes will work in your existing game mode saves (MyCAREER, Association, etc.).

I love offline association's pre-patch with Run Plays around 0-10. I haven't played offline since the patch, but I have read favorable impressions from some of the guys on here I trust.

Online Association is another story. I strongly dislike this game online. The biggest reason for that is due to shot stick timing. I'm not convinced that you can have realistic shooting percentages while using this setting, but since you'll be playing offline this will not bother you.

My suggestion is to open the game and input Mk's sliders. I think you'll be happy with your purchase

Ok i'm just getting frustrated now and need to quit playing for a while. No matter what level i play from pro to HOF the same things occur.

1. the CPU will shoot near 50% and above no matter what.
2. the CPU will immediately run everyone back on D so no fastbreak opportunities occur for the user.
3. Hell bent on PIP
4. every CPU player is an incredible on ball defender.
5. The CPU will knock your player back on a layup attempt no matter the strength ratings for both players.

its rather annoying and simply making me mad. After i calm down for a bit I may come back to this game.

1. Playing good on ball D helps this alot.. I can usually hold the CPU to 40-49% shooting. I wish I had an answer for the the guys who have the CPU score such a high percentage on them

2. The patch has fixed this, for me at least. I got some awesome 2 and 3 on 1s against the CPU yesterday. Just give it a bit.

3. I immensely lowered the drive and inside and close shot tendencies, whole raising the 3 and midrange. This has helped SO much. I hope it helps you.

4. Size up moves, ball movement and pump fakes help this tremendously

5. I'm not sure i understand this beef. Are you meaning when you're driving and contact is made so your player has to throw up a wild shot? I agree sometimes it can be a bit overdone, but when bodies are bumping, no matter how big or strong in the NBA.. Your shot will be changed

I know none of this helped you alot, but I'm just providing some input on how to make the game more enjoyable for you.

Alot of the problems/complaints with this thread stem from we all play so many different modes, sliders, rosters, and settings which isn't even counting skill/style that's is really hard to tell what is what. For example i use MKharsh sliders (set 2) and i have used various rosters. My last game which was post patch my fastbreak total was 27 with Milwaukee vs the Jazz with 6 on all-star. The Jazz were also about 40% PIP. The Jazz shot 37% for the game. So here in my one post patch game i had the completely opposite experience as you did. I am not saying your points were right or wrong, just pointing out how ones experience with whether this game or patch is good or bad can vary so much.

No here's what i mean. say CP3 beats his man off the dribble and sets up for a layup. I come over with Dwight to defend the layup, and instead of getting a block animation, i get an animation where Dwight gets pushed back off balance in the air and falls back while CP3 continues the layup animation. In that situation Dwight's size and strength should at least alter Pauls layup attempt, but doesn't. Just Dwight falling back and landing off balance while Paul continue unhindered. I have drive contact at 100 but it also was occuring on ranges between 50 - 100. Just something weird where the outcome shouldn't be what it is.

I see that nobody has mentioned it so I will. One thing I saw in the patch notes that I am beyond happy that was fixed was the CPU full court press. For years anytime you got a lead of 10 or more the CPU would go into full court press mode no matter what quarter it is. That is now finally gone. I was playing a my player game and got up by 15 in the second and there was no instant full court press. Beautiful.

Also the steals have been toned down and the reach in foul calls have without a doubt gone up. I have a level two pick pocket and was called for two reaching fouls in the first quarter on D.J. Augustine. The coach also took me out of the game so that works at least in my player mode. I got a third foul call late in third on the same thing and two of my teammates were called for the same on other plays.

Yeah I have to say im enjoying the game much more, and it feels closer to the loose yet tight feel of the demo than what it just was... pre patch

My teammates are hustling, grabbing boards, and even diving for loose balls surprisingly. It just made some things I was worrying about that I should have never had to go away.

Also I dont feel like just because a guy is driving that if I attempt to stop him in any way I'll get an auto foul no matter what I do. I hated that with a passion

felt really good for the game I got to play which was Me- OKC at BOS

Anyone have issues with Power Rankings not updating in MyCareer?

Mine haven't updated since Jan 20th.. my team was 29-11. I'm up to Feb 24th and we're 41-12 now. So it hasn't updated in a month. Not sure if this was before or after the patch.

  • on ball defense is definitely better off
  • points in the paint seems a bit toned down
  • rebounding and boxing out so far is great and works well
  • fast break points way down and players get back on defense with more enthusiasm
  • AI seems to be improved with defensive awareness...players lose their assigned man less and they contest way more shots/more double teams
  1. rotations seems to be worst off or players get tired quicker...Gatorade cups are everywhere...
  2. i myself never had a problem with too many 3's going in,so to me it seems that make-able shots from the arc(open shots) fall victim to reducing made 3's alterations from the patch

I guess the 3s thing is because of online, which I dont play so I dont care about it.

The main thing you hit on is that your teammates are more aware and don't act like zombies or half lethargic like they're on insulin... they actually move now and it makes a difference.

I definintely checked out what people here call psychic steals where the guy steals a pass even though his back is turned to you and he never saw what you were doing..

Well I saw that this was fixed, and I also saw a player lunge out in the passing lanes to get a pass.. nice addition.

The steal spam thing has been worked on as well and you're much quicker to get a foul trying to reach all the time instead of moving your body to play defense.

That's not fixed for me. DWade just did that to me in a game like 30mins ago. I saved the clip. He was running in the opposite direction, and he didn't actually steal the ball (at least it didn't look like it in the animation). I was stuck in pass animation and Wade did a backwards dive for the ball and got the ball before I could do anything about it. The ball was right by my foot. It's moments like this where the animation is just too much in this game. It's just not realistic. Some of the animations take away from the game.

It's just like jumping for a rebound. It takes forever to get a second jump a lot of the time.

People wanted more control in the game they give it to us and now people want the computer doing more SORRY can't have it both ways. I don't see all the problems most of u are talking about cut off the dribble and the CPU will pull the ball out, after they shoot switch players and box out then jump for the rebound, I have had Noah and Boozer grab 20 boards with at least 7or 8 coming on the offensive end. CPU pip is about 35 to 40% off the offense as far as O rebounds they are getting between 10 and 15 a game and I'm getting the same I have continually out boarded them on the offensive side so please stop complaining and play the game and don't let the CPU play for u.

In the words of MrPurple0 "THE YEAR OF THE DUNK!"
This is simply not true. Driving down the lane with Lillard is not the same as driving down the lane with Rose or Westbrook. Just like driving the lane with LeBron is different than those guys and say a guy like Deng who is around a 60 dunk rating.

Hopefully not changed for Andrew Bynum and Josh Smith^^^^

I don't know if its because I play with the center, but the CPU is almost shooting too many jumpers....on All Star/Default/Sim I'm having no PIP issues...

Last 5 games the CPU has shot between 44-46%

# 458 Goffs @ 11/28/12 05:51 PM
Even prepatch if you played as center the CPU tends to shoot a few jumpers. I enjoy playing on ball so much that I forgot to try playing as center with the patch! Gotta try it when I get home...

I must be playing a different game from the rest of you guys from reading these responses. The games i played during quick rank matched i noticed that 3PT% Defiantly got toned down. Also for the people are getting punished with spamming the steal button with reach in fouls. Fast Breaks aren't occurring as much as pre-patch. The rebounding seems somewhat fixed. I still can't block any dunks but I'm also noticing a lot more layups are getting blocked.

Shooting fouls still not called?
