NBA 2K13 News Post

The NBA 2K13 patch has arrived for PS3 and 360. The details on the patch haven't been released yet, but we'll update this post as soon as they are available.

UPDATE: NBA 2K13 Patch Details

GAMEPLAY
  • Improved AI rebounding logic to balance out offensive rebound frequency.
  • Tuned AI transition defense; users will now have more fast break opportunities against the CPU. Additionally, CPU teammates are now more able to guard their opponents on the break.
  • Long range passes are now less accurate and will result in more fumbled and missed catches.
  • Passing successfully out of a double team has been tuned to be slightly more difficult.
  • Tuned the logic behind Charging calls so that they are properly called. Charges will now sometimes be called when the defender is in position and stationary, even if he is not in the “Take Charge” animation.
  • Tuned timing on block animations, and made the AI more vigilant about blocking layups and dunks.
  • Improved reach-in foul detection when defender continually swipes at the ball, results in more called fouls where appropriate.
  • AI now only calls for a full court press in appropriate situations (i.e. late in the game).
  • Addressed two dunk animations that were not counting for a score when they were converted.
  • Fixed an issue where Replay would show the incorrect play, rather than what actually happened on the court.
  • AI positioning when running plays has been tuned so that big men with limited shooting range will not move further away from the basket than what their range allows.
  • AI teammates will now remain in the Post Up position longer when a Quick Post play is called for them.
  • Tuned alley-oop and putback dunks such that only players who have a high tendency to perform either move are able to finish with one.
  • Removed the restrictions for the ‘Microwave’ Signature Skill such that it now works regardless of whether you are already on a hot or cold streak.
  • When a block is recorded for a player with the ‘Eraser’ Signature Skill, only the shooting attributes of the blocked player are lowered.
  • Fixed a rare issue where a traveling violation would be called on a pass fake.
  • Referee Review on last shot will no longer play if the shot has no effect on the outcome of the game.
  • A number of other smaller changes have been made to address issues and enhance the user experience.
  • Tuned three-point percentage.
GENERAL
  • NIKEiD shoes will now appear properly in-game after being equipped to a player.
  • Addressed an issue where the game score would disappear in Blacktop games when Signature Highlights were viewed in the pause menu.
  • Fixed an issue where Free Throw Feedback would no longer appear in games after playing an Online MyTEAM game.
  • Addressed an issue in Online MyTEAM games where the away team player would have the Signature Skills of the home team player if identical players were used in the game by both players.
  • Music will no longer be disabled and Game Settings will no longer revert back to Default when completing an online game in MyTEAM.
  • Changed the difficulty settings for all of the seeds in MyTEAM.
  • (360) Addressed a Kinect issue where a misleading overlay would appear when a timeout was called through a voice command when no timeouts were remaining.
MyCAREER
  • Added additional warning re: conversion of an online MyCAREER (one that earns VC) to an offline MyCAREER (one that earns Skill Points).
  • Fixed an issue where the remainder of the user’s schedule would appear empty after participating in the various All-Star Weekend events. This change also carries over to Association/Season modes.
  • ‘Run Plays’ and ‘PlayVision’ should now function properly (when activated), regardless of your MyPLAYER’s position.
  • Fixed an issue where all games in October would be simulated when ‘Play Next Game’ is selected after the start of a new season.
  • Users playing MyCAREERs that accrue Skill Points will no longer find themselves with negative skill points after played games (where a number of unlikely conditions were all met).
  • Addressed a rare hang that would occur if the “Defend Your Home Court” billboard commercial would play between quarters of the Rising Stars Challenge or All-Star game.
  • Addressed a number of issues with the Social Media feature, including one where the news feed would stop updating completely.
  • When changing teams via free agency in the offseason, your MyPLAYER will now receive the proper role (starter, sixth man, etc.) that was promised during the contract negotiation.
  • You will no longer fail the Dynamic Goal “Give your team the lead before the game ends” when subbed out before the end of the game.
  • The Teammate Chemistry rating on the “Play Next Game” loading screen should now display the correct value (as seen in the Social Media menu).
  • The volume of the menu music and sound effects will no longer become extremely quiet after playing consecutive games in MyCAREER.
ASSOCIATION
  • 3PT Tendency progression logic has been rewritten to correctly model the growth variances within each player type in the game. This change also carries over to MyCAREER mode.
  • Users will no longer lose their Scouting Reports after viewing the Recent Games tab of a player card.
  • Birth years can now be set to later than 1993 when editing Draft Classes after the first season of Association.
  • Addressed a rare hang that would occur when attempting to participate in the Dunk Contest with a created player assigned to a created team.
  • (Association: Online) Offense and Defense options should now save properly when using the Total Sim Control feature.
  • (Association: Online) Admins will now have access to appropriate Commissioner Tools during the offseason.
NOTE: All patch fixes will work in your existing game mode saves (MyCAREER, Association, etc.).

I was in a game last night against the 76ers. I was winning 11-6 (12 minute quarters) and there was 3:00+ minutes on the clock. I like how the field goal percentage is better now, but ... The CPU dunked its way up to 21 points. Ridiculous!

Spoiler
You couldn't block a lot of dunks in 2k11 either....

So the devs can get it right,...we don't want an over abundance of blocked dunks, we want CONTACT when a player goes for a dunk.

Right?

2k11's blocking was exponentially better than 2k13's is. And thats in reference to both layups and dunks.

And no, i dont want contact when a player is going for a dunk, thats a foul.

There is a tremendous difference between contact and a foul. For starters, you're assuming the contact would be the defenders fault, which isn't a given in basketball.

What the other guy is implying, and many are complaining about, is that when the offensive player "forces himself" through defenders, (thus subjecting himself to contact), it doesn't seem to affect him in any way.

Hey everyone I have a question. I had rented NBA 2k13 a while back so it was installed on my PS3. However, I purchased a copy last night, and downloaded the patch. After I downloaded the patch, before I started up the game, I went back into my saved files for NBA 2k13 on my PS3 because I wanted to start from scratch so I deleted every old save file. I then started up the game and it didn't ask me re-download the patch. Can I safely assume that deleting all of those files didn't actually delete the patch, and just deleted my settings files, association files, and sliders files? I guess the game would recognize if I didn't have the patch and ask me to download it again, correct? Any help would be appreciated, thank you!

Correct. Patches are generally saved in a separate file, IIRC in a completely separate section of the XMB (so you can't really delete them accidentally if you are just deleting game saves).

The surefire way to test is to enter an online game or something. You won't be able to use NBA 2k13's online features at all, unless you have the most up-to-date version of the game.

First off.... If you didn't spend money to buy the game. And downloaded a hacked copy. Then go away. But If you legit brought your game. Then disregard my comment above

The Only things that work are Eurosteps, and a Few of Michael Jordans Signature Layups. Even after the path these signature layup packages are broken. How hard could it be to fix this 2k? Why do we pay for layup packages we cant use in game or online? This doesnt make any sense and i'd like some answers now!!!

P.s. WTF happened to blocked shots??????????????
are you guys seriously forgetting how to implement USER Defense in this game? In My Honest opinion, you guys need to use 2k11's system of blocking shots, because that was best shot blocking system you guys ever had...No one blocks dunks or layups in this game.....this is terrible fix this system you have implemented.

If I remove everything do you think I can still play the old style blackop and shoot 3's to get easy VC? Or do you think they have made this impossible?

Even if the player I'm controlling is already running or walking forward he will stop or moonwalk until the ball is caught. Does anyone else notice this?
(Defensive assistance is set to 0)
Not to offend you, but Defensive Assist has absolutely nothing to do with your issue. This is just a example of people (not necessarily you) complaining about things but have no idea how it's actually supposed to work. As for your issue, I've never seen what you're describing and I'm taking what you're saying literally.

for the update to work in association do i have to restart a new one?

I got this game for $25 on Amazon. After reading through some of this, I'm kind of concerned with opening it. I have no idea what a euro step 3 pt is, and I'm basically an offline association player. I have bought they last 3 years of this game. Do some of you offline association players still have fun with this game, is it worth me opening?

Thanks in advance for your help.

The 3 point hopstep is when you (on xbox) press the red B-button which makes you perform this move and then shoot a 3. This is only possible if your player (preferably a PG/SG) has the Acrobat signature skill.

So you hold your stick to the left, press B (twice? so you hopstep) and then press X. The CPU will never do this. It can only happen online.

Association is a fun mode to play so just open the game and enjoy it, no need to worry.

I have no idea what a eurostep 3 is either, but I think that issue existed already, and people upset that it wasn't fixed, not that it was newly created. I could be mistaken though, since again, I have no idea what that even means. Anyway I was literally prepared to go sell the game to Best Buy with how things were before the patch, but I'm pretty happy now, 3 games in. I'd go ahead and open it, especially if you only play offline.

# 436 JasonWilliams55 @ 11/28/12 02:14 PM
Yes offline this game is good, online it is also good (with the right players).

The 3pt glitch really only affects online users (as the CPU does not do it). What it is, is doing a eurostep at the 3pt line with a player who has the acrobat sig skill and it will cause the player to make a very high % of 3's.

I play MyCareer..

- Glad they fixed reaching in, but frustrated for now until I get use to it lol.

- Still not happy with CPU Off Rebounding ridiculousness. Players on your team rarely attempt to go for the rebound.. or box out. But the CPU team... will box you out when you're out by the three point line lol. Hell boxing out for me doesn't seem as easy as it was in 2K12.. in my opinion.

- Was hoping they'd tone down some of the off-ball animations for certain things. Seems like its more animations than it was in the last 2K. Takes away from the game.. in my opinion. Quite annoying when your player automatically jumps into an animation.. leaving the player your guarding wide open.

- In bound passing is broken for me now.. so that sucks. I have to call a time out in order to fix it. Wasn't penalized for it though.. just hung there while I frantically hammered the X button while screaming obscenities for a good 10secs lol.

- Saved in the 2Qtr of the Rising Stars Challenge game, thinking I could come back to it like I've done with other games. NOT.. I came back to finish the game and it was finished lol. Never had that issue before.

Other than those few things it's all good. I do wish the good folks at 2k didn't seem to be such lazy dev's with some of the games features and graphics. The game play is still good regardless of the bugs and glitches. But some of the recycled graphics and things they continue to use since I started (2K11), could use some attention lol.

Gotta fix rotation issue...if I set cpu teams minutes it should be close to playing the same amount, but when I start season or association mode, cpu reset its minutes...how lame.

Thanks for the info guys. I will definitely open it up and start playing it then.

Realized something else..

Fouls.. the CPU won't take you out of the game. And if it does, you're back in the game in that same quarter. I did a little test.. I got 5 fouls by the start of the 2qrt.. and the CPU still didn't remove me from the game. I was calling timeouts and everything. Still kept me in the game.
