MLB 13 The Show News Post

I think because it come out early in the year, MLB: The Show is often overlooked and/or underrated come “game of the year” voting time. The rapid fire releases of Madden, NHL, FIFA, and NBA games, not to mention this year’s late slate of racing titles, can overshadow a game that typically drops in the first quarter.

However, I think MLB: The Show is, and has been, the best virtual representation of a sport on the market today. Its quality and improvements aren’t necessarily flashy, but, like baseball itself, the game is full of nuances and details that make it a deep and strategic experience.

That said, it has never been perfect either. Gameplay issues, like too many comebackers to the pitcher, can mar the proceedings. The modes are deep, but not always accessible or exciting. Online has certainly been a mixed bag.

Assuming we all want these well-known quirks to be fixed, here are my top five wishes for MLB: The Show...either next year or next generation.

Russell would this by chance fix the issue where so many of the throws to first base are low and the first baseman has to stretch to catch the ball? You see these low throws too much from all infielders.Especially throws from the second baseman.

I would love to see much more accurate throws to first base in 13 The Show. Of course if the fielder has a very bad throwing rating then I can understand why the throws would be much less accurate ''at times''. I am hoping to see much more throws to or near the first baseman's chest especially with fielders with a good throwing rating.

No that was an issue because we didn't have enough ****** catch animations for the first baseman. This should be rectified in 13 because we've captured some new ****** catch animations for the first baseman.

Great to hear!

Hopefully we will also be seeing lots of new improved catch animations for all fielders especially the outfielders. I would hope adding a lot of new catch animations will make the fielders seem more human and less robot Well I'm not saying all the fielders move like robots lol but they do look awkward sometimes catching and throwing the ball when you compare them to real humans.

Care to set us straight on anything else?

I see you're from Denver, maybe it's altitude sickness.....take some O2 and get a good rest...maybe it will be all better later.
(but somehow I doubt it...I'm probably just being naive again.)

Well, marijuana is now legal over there (here too ) so a breath of fresh air is no longer the #1 cure for episodes of excessive stubbornness... So Bahnzo, this is for you:

Don't know about lots but a couple hundred have been captured.

When did you ever get the idea Russell was not a dev lol? He has always had pretty intimate knowledge of the game for a friggin' PR rep LOFL.

Will the Willy Mays catch be finally taken out of the game? You realistically never see those basket catches anymore in real life so kinda hope it slowly disappears.

Not that my opinion counts but I actually really like pulse pitching

You are not the only one.

For me, along with ball physics, it was the biggest plus in '12, i love the mixture of human input and ratings that Pulse gives, and the fact it lets the user watch lovely animations play out far better.

Ill love it even more if this year being able to determine between a normal and max effort pitch has been introduced into Pulse

p.s. great to hear the artwork for it has been updated too

Maybe even some different styles to choose from.

1. Fix weather issue of having players automatically wear longsleeves, the temps are crazy and off. One day it's 32 degrees and the next 67

2. Sign players to extensions that are not free agents

3. Have counter offers made when you propose a trade

4. Have some type of a system that knows how many of the same FA are signed with how many are on the roster. Example the Yankees signed 4 aces in the offseason while still having Pineda, Hughes, Nova, Kuroda

I also fell in love with pulse pitching and feel that it emulates the real mental side of pitching like nothing else. I love how it makes you focus and concentrate to throw a good pitch and it makes me appreciate every pitch and feel like a real pitcher

If they implemented a way for us to control velocity and added the occasional wild pitch every so often it will be perfect

It had its flaws where the system had this imaginary vortex and pulled mistimed pitches toward the center of the zone. It needed to be more erratic around the zone as opposed to constantly punishing you down the center of the plate.

I agree. I went back to meter pitching because with pulse it felt like everytime I missed being perfect, the pitch was over the heart of the plate and the CPU would constantly light me up for a big hit. If they can add randomness to where the misses are and how much effort we put into pitches, that actually works, then I think this could be the best pitching feature yet.

That is the end goal for the mechanic and think we should be (hopeful) able to experience something like that in 13.

I strongly agree about the "meatball" factor and I hope we will see more erratic pitches with mistiming but I would still like to see the occasional wild pitch be uncorked even on well timed pitches just for the unpredictability factor that pitching has

I personally never had a problem missing in, out, or down, but it was ridiculously hard to throw a pitch just above the strikezone. 99% of the time the ball ends up in the top third of the zone or way above the batter's head...

What I really want out of the pulse mechanic is the ability to control velocity, and hopefully the relationship between velocity and movement is fixed this year (in previous years it was reversed, so higher effort meant + velocity and + movement, should be + velocity and - movement).

Interesting because that location is money for me. Also, I do miss all around the strike zone but the system currently favors the center of the zone if you mistime your button press.
