MLB 13 The Show News Post

I think because it come out early in the year, MLB: The Show is often overlooked and/or underrated come “game of the year” voting time. The rapid fire releases of Madden, NHL, FIFA, and NBA games, not to mention this year’s late slate of racing titles, can overshadow a game that typically drops in the first quarter.

However, I think MLB: The Show is, and has been, the best virtual representation of a sport on the market today. Its quality and improvements aren’t necessarily flashy, but, like baseball itself, the game is full of nuances and details that make it a deep and strategic experience.

That said, it has never been perfect either. Gameplay issues, like too many comebackers to the pitcher, can mar the proceedings. The modes are deep, but not always accessible or exciting. Online has certainly been a mixed bag.

Assuming we all want these well-known quirks to be fixed, here are my top five wishes for MLB: The Show...either next year or next generation.

I don't know if it was suggested, but I'd like to be able to choose between a specific pitching motion's wind-up or stretch.

I'd love to see a playoff mode. One where I could set the teams according to the real playoffs if I wanted and play every game.

I'm probably in the minority with this one.

1. AL and NL players of the week/month.

2. More celebration animations.

3. Regular season stats during walkups in the playoffs (long overdue)

4. Disappearing minor league stats when players are promoted is kinda annoying and vice versa (when going from AAA to AA). Would love to see this addressed.

5. Improved AI baserunner logic (i.e., odd pinch running decisions, baserunners at 3rd trying to score when they should stay put, etc.)

4-we need new baserunning controls- simplify it- tired of running myself out of innings cause of double steals and guys running to 3rd and home and having guys on 1st and 3rd and trying to tag up and end up hitting into DP cause both runners go!
5-since your only MLB Franchise currently get the rights to minor league affiliates!
Couldn't agree more. Especially with building the the stadium, the new commentary, and the new baserunning. Commentary esppecially has been lacking. Matt vasgersian is good, but they definetely need to add somone like Chris Rose or Kevin Millar.

I would like to create stadiums or relocate, it would also b nice to fire managers or coaching staff in-season, not much to complain about otherwise, this is the best sports sim ever, oh also, maybe let us have a roster carry over from MLB12, really like Scots rosters and want to use his upcoming year end edition, or I may just ride out on 12 next season

They have to limit how frequently the cpu makes spectacular defensive plays.

# 107 seanjeezy @ 10/27/12 03:45 PM
Another reason for getting rid of the overall rating/making it independent of potential or giving the ability to change potential - if you edit Brendan Ryan to accurately reflect his skillset (low 30's contact, 90's fielding and reaction, 80's arm) he regresses heavily across the board every offseason because his overall his higher than his potential, so he's penalized for actually being good in real life... This just shows that the whole rating system is flawed and needs a revamp.

I would like to see improvements with RTTS
1. Start off in high school for like 8 games.
2. Have an actual draft. With teams picking players they actually need
3. Adding in a single A level
4. Make advancement goals less important or make a different way to advance
5. Make better animations ( for first hit ever, throw pitch into dugout, for walk off HR make the team huddle waiting for you at home plate)

# 109 LastActionHero @ 10/28/12 02:46 PM
1. Save exhibition games

2. MLB Today feature

3. Complete menu/interface overhaul

4. Full sliding control

5. Full HUD customisation

Absolutely NO to Connected Careers, it is one of the main reasons I cannot stand Madden this year and have not thrown money at it. I want a RTTS and a GM/franchise mode SEPARATE. I'm one of those who really isn't into creating and building a superstar and would rather take control of a franchise(s) with real players. If they were to ever combine the two, The Show would not come close to seeing either of my consoles, just like Madden. Keep the two modes separate, please...

I agree, there are so many great possibilities for classic teams in a baseball game.

I would like to see the ability to use your Diamond Dynasty team in regular online games against MLB teams, be able to play Minor League vs Minor League or MLB vs Minor League like MZP 05 had and the ability to choose your RttS player in practice mode.

I would love to see some of the small things being put into the game. They have so much time to make this game better so put just a little more effort into the small things like broadcasting, individual pitching or hitting stance/style. Put in the ejections everybody wants that because it excites everybody its one of the most entertaining choices to make in the game. Have different types of levels that the coach is mad at or put it as a setting where the coach argues close calls and the maybe blown ones he gets ejected.

# 114 Perfect Zero @ 10/31/12 07:55 PM
Devs have said that MLB doesn't want to see ejections and managers arguing in the game. Besides, the Show pushed the envelope for having the little things in the game.

Oh man, MLB Network integration in next year's game would be amazing. I agree with Caley, this past year MLB Network dominated my TV viewing over ESPN whenever there was baseball on, MLB Tonight was just so entertaining.

I feel the same way. I hate the mention of Connected Careers. Terrible idea.

There's lots of great ideas in here that I would love to see implemented. Anyway my top 5 are pretty simple:

1) Import players into existing franchises.
2) Hire/Fire Managers in season.
3) Being able to edit coaches. Worst case scenario allow us to change coaches numbers. It really bothers me to see #29 Sveum come out to replace #29 Samardzija.
4) In season contract extensions
5) The ability to break out of any fielding animation. I still see to many plays that are relatively routine plays where the CPU takes over and makes a nice animation and the runner ends up safe. It's better than how it used to be but it still happens way more than I would like to see.

Like a said mine are pretty simple but would make the game almost perfect in my eyes if added.

Players need to have seperate power ratings for pull, straight away, and opposite field power.

Fielders need to gather themselves instead of throwing on the run off one foot when I barely tap the analog stick forward to catch a grounder.

Pitchers need seperate ratings against righties and lefties to better distinguish a lefty specialist from a lhp that can get righties out as well.

Just some small things this is one of my favorite games to play each year.

I'd like for an option to change your equipment on the road and at home! Some players wear white gloves at home, and grey gloves on the road to match their uniforms.

Robinson Cano and a lot others do this.

Home (White base gloves, blue armbands):

Away (Grey based gloves, grey armbands):

Totally agree... same goes with catcher's gear and shoes from what I've noticed. This would be a good thing for 13.
