NBA Live 13 News Post

NBA Live 13 has been canned, kicked to the curb, canceled, put out to pasture. However you want to put it, NBA Live 13 is no more.

Below is a statement from EA Sports Executive Vice President, Andrew Wilson.

Quote:
After a lot of consideration, we have made the decision to not launch NBA LIVE 13. I'd like to give you a bit of perspective.

When we started the process of bringing back NBA LIVE, we knew it was going to be a long journey. We started by moving the game to a new studio. We brought in some of the best new technology that has helped fuel innovation in our other games. We launched an even deeper level of engagement with our community to gather more feedback directly from fans. And we built a whole new development team to bring it all to life. We felt like we were on the right path.

We also made a commitment to deliver a high quality experience — this is what our fans expect and what we demand of ourselves at EA SPORTS. But making great games is not easy, and we're just not there yet on NBA LIVE 13. Having continued to look at the game over the past few days, it's clear that we won't be ready in October. And rather than launch midway through the season, we're going to sit out the full year and stay focused on making next year’s game great. This decision puts us on the right track for success well into the future in a rapidly changing industry.

I'm disappointed that we have not yet met our high expectations with NBA LIVE, but I remain motivated about where we're going. We're committed to delivering new innovation in online, and our progress in the visual presentation of the game continues to take big strides. We also know that a great game starts with great gameplay, and this remains a huge priority for us.

This wasn't an easy decision, but it's the right one for our fans. I hope you'll agree when you're able to play the game next year.

Andrew Wilson
Executive Vice President, EA SPORTS

Youre wrong here. EA was pursuing the NFL license as early as 2001. I have to check one of my old laptops for the link to the article.

To me, that 'competition is good' thing is just a slogan. Live has not been a competition for the last 3 years and still we have the other game's developers putting out 3 great basketball games, working hard, listening to community, being devoted and knowledgeable.

For crying out loud you missed the whole point!

Who cares, it's been 7 freak'n years! It's done! We can't change that, no sense consistently bringing it up! That was my point! I miss 2k football too, but damn get over it already, nothing is going to change unless Roger G. and the NFL changes it. And to bring it up every damn time a EA issue happens is getting old and tiring.

We are talking in a NBA Live forum and Madden and the damn NFL thing comes up over and over again to try to back lash the developers and the company as a whole.

Tiburon makes the football and just recently got the NBA, the series was having issues way before it even got into their hands.

Enough is enough, let's focus on NBA issues and not NFL (7 years ago - **** we can't change crap)

I understood it pretty well if you asked me.

EA you have a good base for a basketball game in NBA Live 10. Start from that and add to it and stop trying to reinvent the wheel its clearly not your strong suit. I don't think anybody here was really shocked that EA once again cancelled its baseket ball game. I would be shocked if the NBA keeps dealing with a company that has had to cancel its game 2 years in a row!

Haha I didn't get most of that either but this: "Could you imagine if EA got the basketball license we would be playing Live 13" Sends shivers down my back. I thank the gaming gods that this never happened. And I still believe in my honest opinion that if TakeTwo had bought the rights instead of EA we wouldn't have as bad a game as Madden is today. I know it's hypothetical but I practically consider this a fact.
And I wish some people would quit with all this fanboy this and fanboy that noise, it seems to me most of the posters here on OS aren't loyal to any one company, they just know a great product when they see/play it. Why do you think most people in the forum constantly brings up "The Show" "NBA2K11" "FIFA" "NHL" whenever the topic is about quality. There's no fanboyism here, just the fact that EA makes bad NFL games and for the last 3 years their NBA offering has been vaporware.

I was explaining that why are people defending EA if they obviously don't care I seen Mike Wang,LD2k and others on here where was EA?Hiding because they know they been beat. Not hating on EA but its sad how you go from Live 10 which alot of people are saying is there best work or Live 2005 and you can't even put out a game now?I understand alot of work goes into making the game but don't have people go pre-order(which was stupid)bring out a trailer, bootflow all that just to say nope we not dropping it again.Tired of EA crap. And I was also saying if EA bought the NBA license they would've probably put that garbage out and we would've had to suck it up like we been doing with Madden did I explain myself perfect this time?

I really don't think I'm mad at this happening anymore. The 2K13 demo is sucking the life out of me!!!! I'm damn scared of getting the full game. I've NEVER played a sports game so constantly as I have with this 2K13 demo. N-E-V-E-R! My prayers have been answered with 2K13 and all the goodness that EA was alluding to with Live 10 and, even, Elite 11, with it's controls potential, is no longer needed.

Live 14 is going to have to marry what Elite 11 was trying to do with the controls with great and varied animation tech, at the very least, imo. Live 10, while great in it's own right, had too many scripted animation sets and was nowhere near organic enough. Too easy to figure out how to get fouls called when on offense and no way to play true defense in or near the paint without getting sucked into an animation sequence which, many a time, would lead to a foul being called on u. Turrble.

As for ppl talking all that karma stuff regarding the NFL license and all that, gtfoh. That's so far reaching - Plastic Man. The whole NFL license deal is murky, anyway. There are 2 stories regarding that - EA was lobbying for an exclusive license for years and the NFL actually made the exclusive license decision, on their own. Who REALLY knows which one it was but, please, leave that non-sense out of this not to mention, DO YOU do all the right things in life and has "karma" gotten u back in ways u don't even know or understand?? Just stop it with that. That's just life. Good and bad all over the place.

That said, while I do look forward to seeing what EA does with Live 14 because I DID love those controls from Elite 11, which made the demo fun for me, 2K14 will have the kung-fu grip on me, in most likely hood, especially hearing that the new dribble controls in 2K13 are basically "phase one" of what's to come in 2K14.

2k just do what they must to do, developing games. EA is just trying fooling gamers all the time! Next big fail will goes from Konami side, because right now Konami working hard on gameplay, trying to create authentic football with team's and player's individuality. Fifa is already on the wrong path, they have already gone a long way and they will not have time to change something quickly. Get ready boys and girls for another epic failure. I can see the headlines - Fifa has been canned! ) I'm not an EA *****, I just want him to do right authentic thing and for this, they need to feel a failure.

It's Elite all over again, insisting that the game will release on time, delaying the release, insisting it will release eventually and finally cancelling the release all together. Hopefully they scrap the WHOLE Elite engine and work off of what they had with Live 10. They went from sugar to sh*t in one cycle. Next year will be a put up or shut up yea,r as they will have had 4 years from the release of Live 10 to Live 14(Oct. '09-Oct. '13) to put out a passable product.

I'm still not giving up on the Live franchise yet, I'll probably be the only one but I'll stand alone proudly.

You're right about this. Get over it. As long as folks are willing to keep buying Madden, then just let it go.

If you would have told me Live was gonna shut it down, when it was at it's pinnacle, I would have laughed and said you were crazy. WTH happened, The last Live game was so good, and really set a benchmark imo for big things to happen, and the elite come out, or tried to come out, and the whole damn franchise goes down.

Sad to me.

No offense, but you do know that no one really cares, right?

I'm sure no one is "giving up" on the franchise. But EA will have a LOT of trust to regain. If you're ready to trust - sight unseen - then you're not a very intelligent person. It's not as if the game saved someone's life. There should never be that amount of devotion to a video game... EVER!

Agreed. I will never get EA/2K Loyalists. EAS isn't a sports team. Why clamour and say "Oh I'm not giving up on x game. Even though its a bad one" Really comments like this really piss me off. Its the reason EA decides to put out lackluster games, because fans don't expect more from them. Just mindless people handing away hard earned money based on nostalgia.

Its not like EA is going to keep putting out crappy titles. I'm sure they will bounce back. They are too big of a company not to bounce back in my opinion. And in my opinion, I think Live is more historical than EA's Own Madden History. Madden ranked in sales in the early 2000s but Live has so much history and had past success way before madden ever came into the picture...

So yeah, I think it'll stick around and I think it will become better.

NBA Live is always been worse game than NBA 2k, it is an undeniable fact!

@ScottOGallagher is taking in feedback for NBA Live 14 & he asked what have you loved/hated about the Live series in general.

Now they ask... stop asking questions and just make a game with a solid foundation to show people so they can comment on it. Not what users liked with past games. They know by now.

Damage control at it's finest. Maybe now is the time they really do want feedback, but they come off so disingenous with everything. This was exactly what I was talking about a few weeks ago with not being able to trust anything they say because it's like the same damn thing every single time. Let's see how long they're taking feedback this time.
