How do you branch soft jab steps with pumpfakes like the AI does? looks really cool.

RS on Defense

Ok - someone tell me if it is just me.

When using the RS on defense, do you have a delay when trying to do something?

To me it seems like the game doesn't respond until the RS returns to center when trying to disrupt an overhead entry pass into the post or to do a quick little sidestep.

There is like a one second delay on the jumping catch pass animation thing. Don't know if it's on purpose or not.

Are you using L2 + R2 / LT + RT when you're using the right stick? I've never experienced a delay when using this combination.

Just the RS. Flick it to the back of the defender or to the side.

There's one move I'm not seeing on this chart.

Think Patrick Ewing from midrange, facing the hoop, from hold (hasn't used his dribble yet). In 2k12, you could take a step (without dribbling) towards the hoop to create space, then drain the open midrange jumper.

How, when facing up, towards the hoop, do you take a step towards the hoop (to fake drive)? This is a move I need for centers and PFs that can nail the midrange. I think it's called a jab-step.

i'd like to know how the cpu does this, can't do it myself. So if anyone knows how this is done, please share

No problems with most of the moves in the game now, still a little shakey on the stick but started to enjoy it now.

Anyone got any insight on the 'protect' post moves? I'm unsure of how to pull these off as the input seems the same as regular post moves - are they contextual?

Does anyone know how to do size-ups with no live ball? I'm saying the moves to create space like doing fake shots then fake steps etc? Don't know what's it called. I want to do the fake drop step motion but it stops after the first fake.

^ Just want to clear what I said, I was too sleepy that time lol. Anyway, I wanted to know how to do the pump fake then jab step move in one seamless motion. I've seen this done by other players but every time I do this, it just goes to pump fake then the animation stops.

So now that the game has been out for a week, how is everyone shooting? Are more people using "X", or the LT+RS (double tap for advanced shots)?

I have been using the RS for shooting exclusively ever since they implemented it, but something about the controls this year has me using "X" most of the time outside of the post game. Using "B" to pull off hop step shots just feels quicker and more responsive than the double-tap RS method. I still use RS on free throws and in the post though.

What's the consensus?

Shotstick for everything for me.

Same for me. using shot stick in the post and when I drive the basket only.

for drives to the basket I use the shot stick. Double tapping feels better when driving, whereas if I want to do the rip-over, step backs and hop jump shots i use the hop button with the shot button. I feel double tapping for those hop jump shots messes up with my timing, the hop button plus the shot button just gets me in the rhythm better.

Yeah, when I first started playing the game I was using the shot stick. After going through training camp, I tried to force myself to learn using "X" to shoot. However I'm back to wanting to use the shot stick for certain things. "X" is better for hop jumpers, rip through jumpers, stepback jumpers, and spin shots. However LT+RS just feels more natural for jumpers off screens, layups, dunks and post shots.

Especially on layups, I don't like how you can't control which hand you go up with if you use "X". Using RS to control handedness on layups and dunks just feels amazing, always has. It also feels better with changing your shot mid-air, whereas with "X" you just tap "X" again while in the air and I guess it auto adusts the shot for you.

I'm surprised they only give "X" shooting controls in the training camp. The shot stick has been such a huge part of the 2K series and such an advantage as releasing the stick actually feels pretty immersive, like you are flicking your wrist on the shot. Also the directional freedom it provides. Surprised they would seem to suggest using "X".

the post game is really frustrating me this year.

for some reason, im missing most of my Hooks in the post. i dont know if its just my timing or what but i cant seem to make them. and this is with Gasol and Howard. im literally right in front of the hoop and im still bricking them.

i tried holding the stick until he actually releases the ball, brick.

any tips anyone? Beluba?

my shooting sliders are on sim All Star.

Hook shots haven't been consistant since 2 years now. Maybe that's because there isn't a real counter to it. I find that if you fake right (while dribbling in the post) and hook shot left very near of the restriction half circle (Not sure how you call it exactly) it has greater chance going in. But still I don't think there is a logic behind it. You only have to go in Free style practice to see that there isn't a logic behind it, press Y to be in the post up position, and try to do wide open hook shot with Shaq. He won't even make 50% of them. Pretty sure he should almost make a 100% of them.

Pushing the Left stick to the right of the basket and pressing the shot button will trigger a right handed lay up and vice versa for pushing it to the left
