I played my first game on Legendary difficulty last night, losing 2-1 to ManU with Newcastle. Maybe it was the initial shock, but they smoked me in the first half, especially early. I think they had five shots before I even had one. At the half I think shot attempts were 10-2 and possession 57-43 in their favor. I was able to take a chunk out of their possession advantage and outshot them in second when I pushed to get back in the game.

What I really like about it was the CPU's aggressiveness. They fired long shots if I gave them space outside the box, including a spectacular strike by Nani from about 25 that dipped & swerved past a helpless Steven Harper. I hope it wasn't due solely to ManU's tactics or player traits, but even if it was, at least it was different.

On defense, the CPU would lunge in with a tackle or slide if I showed too much of the ball. If I were more comfortable with the dribbling, I can see where the fouls would come. No more casual dribbling and lots of time on the ball like I was seeing on World Class. Not that I was scoring a lot on WC thanks to manual shooting skills.

I played 12 on Legendary for a while in my career, but eventually moved back down to World Class because bad teams seemed to play as well as top teams in my league. Every game was tight and I rarely had a clean sheet. Hopefully that won't be the case this year, as that 2-1 loss was probably the most enjoyable CPU game I played thus far.

A good test would be to play against a lower rated team and see if they play like a world beater. I am also starting to get the feeling that WC is getting too easy.

Q,

What Marking settings are you using? I'm using 75 on World Class and the CPU seems fairly aggressive and doesn't allow for a lot of time on the ball.

My fear of going to Legendary is that all of the momentum and cheesy scripted goals in extra time, after a team scores a goal, and within the first five minutes of the second half becomes more apparent.

I was around 75 and had it higher in the past. They play tighter away from the ball with it raised on world class, which is good. I wasn't scoring all that much on WC, but I felt like I could more or less keep the ball and get in good positions fairly regularly. It was usually a bad final pass/shot or desperation defending that foiled me. In my one game on Legendary (SSS disclaimer), the CPU seemed more intent on winning & keeping the ball.

I don't know about the other stuff or the overall 'fairness' of legendary. I'm going to give a go for a while and try playing some different kinds of matchups. I might try an FA Cup with Arsenal... that should give me some variety.

1. Getting called up to your national squad as your virtual pro feels awesome. Got called up to El Tri and had an exciting match vs USA that ended 0-0.

2. Freddy Adu has to be the ugliest player model in the game.

Anybody get fired for cussing yet? I didn't even cuss (granted I think I did drop some f bombs in earlier games) but the straw that broke the camel's back "WHAT? That was weaksauce!" Fired after that game.

Reloaded the CM and turned off kinect. Don't have to worry about that anymore.

That happens?!? Yeah, I never would've had that on.

I'd have been fired immediately after conceding twice in injury time and drawing with Man City as a result. Rarely have I swore more in my life.

Gentlemen, I have a question if I plan to only play offline would FIFA be a good choice for me? I know there are many single player modes, but I have read on several posts that your teammate AI and CPU opponent are lacking.

Also, does your CPU opponent play similar to the team you pick for them?

Thanks

While playing a friend online last night, the manual control first-touch bug reappeared. I hadn't seen it yet in FIFA13. It happened when I struck a loose ball without taking a touch. I had no trouble making first-touch passes from a pass. This was not first touch error... the ball rocketed away like a fully-charged pass, despite me tapping the button.

I finally broke down and bought this. Figured I could use a change of pace once in a while from that other football game.

The off-ball offense is drastically improved from previous seasons Players are in so much better position when receiving passes. They actually react to the ball, instead of just standing there expecting it to go directly to their feet. They also ward off the defender extremely well.

I would pay 100 bucks for a foul/card slider. The CPU is just too precise with their tackling. And in those rare moments when they aren't, the ref doesn't seem to give a damn. I'm sure I'll play 1,000 games before I see the CPU get called for a penalty. I just don't get why football games in general can't seem to get fouls right. PES is better in this respect, but it's still not right.

Ultimate Team is like crack. And I'm only playing the single-player side of it.

Offline is decent this year, improved Career mode, offline UT, player mode, that's already months of playing time there. Now the AI, there are some flaws and there are areas where its lacking, but I think the pros outweigh the cons. As for opponent play, I suggest you check out Krebstar's excellent thread on custom team tactics.

It's just a shame that the actual gameplay can't hold a candle to all of the cool off-the-pitch stuff.

The lack of momentum and inertia in this game is very annoying. The unrealistic movements, the sliding, the unbelievable turn radius are some of the reasons why i will not play this game or any other iterations of this game. Soccer is a sport that is 100 percent dependent on running and with their glorified physics engine, they cannot implement something as essential as momentum. Very annoying. I haven't even started on the AI but ill save that for another thread. Nope, i haven't seen a slider set that rectifies this issue.

Thanks for the read. Post comments below.

Agreed X100 If it did there really would be no contest but the gameplay still isn't good enough IMO although it does play better in UT with high chemistry. I still can't get into CM at all with the gameplay the way it is along with transfers the way they are although they are not as bad as last year.

try game speed on slow with sprint speed 48 acceleration 46, it is probably the best you can do to make it more realistic

Anyone else find lower rated teams punching way above their weight sometimes? I'm playing in tournament mode in the Barclay's Premier League. Southampton lead after 8 rounds of play and remain unbeaten. 6-2-0.

Southampton 20 pts
Chelsea 18
Man Utd 18

You're going to hate me for saying this, but if Liverpool being a legit title contender for the entirety of my first season counts, then yes, I have noticed this.

# 179 dubcity @ 10/22/12 03:14 AM
I just wish the gameplay was as fun and realistic (relatively speaking) with the top teams as it is with the lower teams. Right out of of the box, without slider tweaks, playing with 2nd (and lower) division teams on slow is a joy. Then you play with EPL teams and it's an arcadey piece of crap.

# 180 dubcity @ 10/22/12 05:51 AM
Okay, fouls ... what the hell is going on with this? I steal the ball, about to break-away to have a 1-on-1 with the keeper, defender grabs me from behind by the shirt and throws me to the ground. Whistles blows. Red card? No. Yellow card? No. Just a talking to. And all I get is a free kick from the 30-35 yard mark. Grrrrrreat.

*he said, through gritted teeth*
