I am reading these impressions with serious focus. I want to get this game. However, I want to feel challenged by different ways by different teams. I want to see and feel that the other team is being strategic, passing the ball around, and actually playing with purpose apinstead of simply rushing the ball into the box, then trying to score from in there.
I also want defenders that don't just gaze at the ball when I am on defense and simply escort players into the nap box to watch them score.
I want this game so bad but I am both encouraged and worried about what I am reading from these impressions.
Any additional insight would be greatly welcomed. Thanks for all the impressions thus far.
defense is extremely disappointing. Especially in the box. A lot of ball watching and too much space.
Played a bit, and gotta say the game speed seems faster than what it was on the demo, and I set it to slow. It feels like every player is on a sugar rush from hell.
The AI is improving, that's for sure. Different from last years game. Seeing a bit more variety from the AI.
AI Defense is better then what was showcased in the demo as well. Still needs to be worked on though.
I don't know, I'm having a tough time really describing this game. The speed of it is way too fast. The speed in FIFA 12 was better, not sure what happened here.
As Zoneblitz mentioned...defenders...but I won't get on it as I always do.
Played 39 minutes of the first half and paused to say a few quick things:
-Slow is still a bit fast for me. Wish there was a very slow like in Madden
-Mexico has fouled me 3 times from behind. First 2 were simple free kick re-starts but the 3rd cost them a yellow card. Great to see the cpu fouling me
-Conversely, and sadly, I cannot foul the cpu no matter what I do, not even slide tackling from behind. i believe this was in last years game as well.
-The game is visually stunning
Now that Royce showed me where I can start an exhibition game, I'm going to host the Netherlands to see if they will shoot from distance against me. Last year, for the most part, they did not.
I also want to see if the CPU changes formation based on score. If I'm up 2 goals late will they drop a defender for a 3rd striker? Last year the cpu did not do that.
I am a PES guy and have always bought PES but, like last year, am using Season Ticket to determine if I would buy FIFA. I won't buy both games.
Question for those who have the game. How do you get the ESPN graphics and intro? Is it default when you pick a regular exhibition game? From the MLS video's I've seen on youtube, they all start with the EA Sports intro and graphics but the La Liga video Ive seen has the ESPN graphics.
Ezio, can you give us your impressions when you play Juve? I'm curious to see if they line up in the 3-5-2, how the midfield plays, and if Pirlo dictates the pace.
KG,
Juve did play 3-5-2. There still is not enough midfield play IMO and I think that is because when the CPU gets the ball they are still very direct in their approach. I would not say Pirlo dictated the pace but that could be because I was up 2-0 at HT. I will say those I feel his pressence was felt with his passing. Also, Juve definetly came out attacking in the 2nd half trailing 2-0 which was good to see. I want to see what happens if a team is winning though because in the past they still attacked.

Attacking is one thing. Changing formation is another. Do you remember if they dropped a defender and added a striker? Did the formation shape change? Were players pushed up at every position?

I can say they didn't attack when up.
My question is though is the AI aware enough to not attack when down on leg 2 of a game but up overall on aggregate.

I'm hoping to see this
I honetly don't recall sorry. They did make one change I think they brought on Pepe maybe but I forgot who they took off. I don't recall the formation changing.

In my league game vs. Lazio they were up 3-0 and continued to attack. Not sure what would happen in a cup game if they are up on aggregate but I don't expect it to be different.
I like this game a lot. The game is really fluid and the fact that you don't need skill moves anymore in order to beat your defender is awesome. The one negative I see is that shots for around the arc are too easy.
anybody else seeing the frequent ugly bouncy passes? It might be because I have my pass speed slider set at 40. Stuck at work for a couple hrs then I can check
-Defenders will quite literally stand around doing absolutely nothing while attackers dribble around freely sizing up a shot from the edge of the box.
-The first touch system really does make an amazing difference to the game. However, it needs refinement (via slider perhaps) because at times it's as though the entire pitch is comprised of 20 footballers wearing concrete boots.
-Scoring against the CPU on Legendary is not easy.
-The CPU varies its attack far far far more than it did in FIFA 12.
Anybody care to share their sliders so far? I'm having a difficult time balancing player speed/accel with passing/shot speed. I feel 48 pass speed is too slow and doesn't allow for moving the ball around the pitch as freely as it should. 48 shot speed feels fine. 46 speed/accel seem just about right.
I'm Man U hosting Netherlands and I had to pause just 2:38 into the game to state something. (Keep in mind I am a big PES fan who was dissapointed in the lack of "shooting from distance" in FIFA12)
I have finally witnessed a miracle!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Netherlands has 2 shots already, both from outside the box, one from way outside!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Utterly amazing to see and the commentary captured it nicely. Shots came from Robben and Sneijder
On a sad note, in my game against Mexico the 2nd half was terrible in terms of strategy for the CPU
Mexico was up 1-0 and I couldn't get anything going. When I added a striker and pulled a defender Mexico did nothing to respond.
In fact, their shape never changed. The 2 subs they did make were "like for like". Their play style never changed. They never pulled back to defend. This is sad for me because what they should have done was drop a striker and clog the midfield as well as drop a midfielder between the 2 center backs or replace a midfielder for another center back.
