No Crew Mode For NBA 2K13

During a recent interview with US Sports Down Under, NBA 2K13 Producer, Erick Boenisch let the cat out of the bag, as he confirmed no Crew Mode for NBA 2K13. This marks the second year in a row Crew Mode will not be featured in the game.

Folks have said it already - if the allure is that you get to show off your My Player with your group of friends, you have that now. Well, what would that have accomplished. I think it's clear that they were trying to get it in, and ran out of time, and decided to cut it. That's my take. IpodKindCarter said that they knew how important it was to people. The producer's comments back that up.

Look man - they tried. Couldn't get it done. They accepted that fact and prepared for the backlash. The company isn't stupid or blind. Seems they are trying to raise their standards with online modes and Crews is too important to mess up. We might not LIKE the decision, but it sounds like it's the right decision. Have to respect it if that's the case.

As long as I can take my player online im happy. It gives us something to do other than play against the CPU over and over.

I'm not saying that's all Crew fans' thing - but some folks have made it a point to say that's the draw. Again, I'm sure it's MUCH deeper for some folks. But, yeah, aren't these modes always about showing off your progress? In WoW, folks are MORE than happy and proud to show off new gears, weapons, and mounts. That's the thing. It's natural.

Guys, isn't this my team thing pretty much the same thing as crew plus player cards? Maybe you guys that like crew so much and miss it should tryout myteam. it sounds fun. Crew will probably be back in 2k14. Ronnie 2k said on twitter that they removed Crew because it was broken.

This is my problem with them taking out crew and I'll try to keep it peaceful and somewhat unbiased.

Personally, I didn't use glitched players and neither did my crew. We got our player up around low to mid 90's (Mine was a 6 foot 3 93 OVR PG). It didn't take that long but we would also play some crew games with our players when they were not rated as high. The thing is, we usually would beat glitched players. 9 feet players with 99 OVR were beatable. Now of course it was hard, but I'm always up for a challenge. We didn't always win, but beating those guys was much more fun than destroying players who had regular MyPlayers. Now if the glitched players are still your main beef with Crew, didn't Ronnie2K tweet that all the player data for blacktop and such would be stored server side? So couldn't they do the same for Crew? And they said they are working on the servers but what if the servers are still how they've been forever? Didn't they make the same promise last year? Now I was highly disappointed when Crew was taken out of 2k12 but it was okay because I could and would often pop in 2k11 and play crew there, but now that the servers are gone my favorite game mode in 2k is gone with them. I could play Team Up but too often my friends get sent to the other team and the players in public team ups are simply horrible. I'm pretty much stuck to playing private team ups when we have enough people online. Now of course I'll still enjoy team up, but I have a feeling it might be like in 2k12 where I have no reason at all to play MyPlayer (I hope I'm wrong). I'll still buy the game and enjoy, but it's rather upsetting that my favorite thing to be put in to 2k is gone. It was the main reason I had been looking forward to 2k13 since 2k12 came out. Nothing on NBA 2k11 was more rewarding to me than taking my MyPlayer along with some of my friend's players and using strategy and skill to outsmart and outplay the other team. A HUGE chunk of the online and MyPlayer experience is gone. I'd take the glitches and everything with the same old crew mode than none at all. I've heard that we will be able to 3v3 with our MyPlayer and friends but that's not as good because I can't take my team against a strangers team and go at it in a full 5v5 game. I definitely understand why those who don't care about crew don't care about this news, but at least you guys should try to understand why us who love it are pissed. Well at least now I have a reason to hopefully look forward to 2k14.

I'm not going to bother reading all 32 pages of complaints. Haters can boycott the game all they want, saying they won't be giving 2K their precious video game moneys, but at the end of the day, 2K will make more money on this NBA game than any basketball game ever has. Personally, I hated crew because hackers destroyed the mode, and the quality of online gameplay was poor to begin with.

The concept of crew is fantastic, but the implementation is beyond dreadful. I'd rather have no mode than a broken mode. Still pumped for the game's release, and ignoring all of the butthurt comments. I'm glad they finally confirmed that the broken hack mode isn't returning this year. It won't stop the complaints, but at least all these speculation threads can go away for a few months until 2K14 talk starts up prematurely, as always.

i'm just not ready to take 2k's word again based of 2k12 so i'm just overly critical now. i really don't like when devs bs around. like with uncharted 3 we've been pushing to get more color options but they had some lame excuses like people wouldnt know who their teammates where when your teammates have green names and enemies have red.

im not even convinced they truly fixed my player like they claim

if they want it back so bad it has to be some major caps on things based on height of position. like if you make a 6'6 point guard your shooting should maybe go into the 70s or you can't create shots or shoot off the dribble it has to be some reason you are a pg and not a sg at 6'6

Welp, I hope 2k isn't planning on releasing any DLC. I'm not paying for **** until we get crew back. It was the only thing fun about playing the game online

Crew was broken according to 2k. Trust me guys, if 2k really could put crew back they would. They wouldn't just abandon it and come up with an excuse to why it isn't in 2k13. It was broken, and they didn't have the time to fix it. Hopefully it will be in 2k14. Instead they took the time to work on other modes to try to make the most realistic basketball sim possible. 2k decided to come up with an alternative for crew while they work on it for 2k14 in Myteam and playing with your myplayer 3 on 3 online. Myteam seems fun and i'm sure people will enjoy it.

Yeah

Its a ME mode for alot of people here complaining. They could care less about how well other parts of the game fares as long as they get the look at ME mode

Im not saying you were implying it but I was.

This is all aside from a sim basketball game with players we know and teams that play in the league.nope some threatening a non biy not because of that but because they can't post videos of their faux creations

Perspective Through Estimated (Guessed) Numbers:

I truly doubt more than 1 in 20 (5%) of people who bought 2K11 even tried Crew.

Out of the people who tried Crew, I seriously doubt more than 1 out of 5 people really liked it and continued to play.

That leaves us with a game mode that 1% of players cared about. Maybe my numbers are little off...but not by much. 2K has the numbers...if it was significant, there would be Crew, especially after 2 years. It's not significant...but they can't say that without alienating die-hard customers. People think they added MyTeam for money...maybe a little, but they could have just as easily monetized Crew. The real thing is MyTeam has a much broader appeal, compared to a niche like Crew.

I agree that makes much more sense. I think Visual Concepts/2K was also trying to grab as many casual players/customers away from EA as possible this year. There seemed to be an awful lot of catering to the casual crowd this year - new and easier controls, guitar hero dunking in the all star game, bring in celebrities like jay-z, bieber, pauly d, MyTeam with the cards, shoe creator, etc.
